I didn't but you can tell yourself that if it makes you feel better. I hope if Trump does win you will be able to cope with it as you seem overly emotional about it.

No - Anyone that still supports the criminal rapist Donald Trump is probably that.

It's perfectly possible to be unhappy( even very unhappy) with how Biden has done so far whilst also recognizing that Trump is FAR FAR worse.

Put it this way - I'd hate to get Tonsilitis ,that would be pretty crap and I'd be very disappointed.

But if the choice is Tonsilitis or Ebola , I'm picking Tonsilitis all day long..

Biden has done well on Ukraine but poor on the middle east.

I'm not much interested in fighting ignorance about the border boogyman or whatever, I'm simply addressing why you seem confused about the polling.

So to go through it again. You appear to believe a lot of things that simply aren't true. As in, two minutes of critical thinking would show them not to be true. But you believed them.

Do you think you are unique in that?

Do people like you vote in polls?

Can you draw the line from there to why polls might say Biden has low approval ratings?

    Are they EQUALLY awful though???

    That's the core point , isn't it?

As I said already , one is a mediocre President , the other is a criminal rapist who wants to turn the US into an Autocratic dictatorship.

So, again are they both just as awful?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,020 ✭✭✭✭bucketybuck

It isn't possible for them to run somebody not broadly disliked by Republicans.

Ten minutes in the Fox news bubble and their candidate is the devil, that is literally Fox's business model.

How can you not see that?

So you don't think there's an issue of illegal immigration in America? In your opinion what has Biden not done well?

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 36,711 CMod ✭✭✭✭pixelburp

Then by your own reckoning he hasn't been a failure on Foreign Policy, in fact one good & one bad puts him squarely average by definition? And again I'll reiterate, his response to Israel isn't gonna turn up on any campaign adverts of note; at worst young liberals are angry at him for that response, but if it's down to him v. Trump the question again comes into who's better for world stability.

It's gonna come down to: jobs; economy; border; <all things Trump>. Foreign policy simply won't matter to any quantifiable degree.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,661 ✭✭✭Dick phelan

No they are not equally awful. But nobody on this thread seems to accept any of Bidens failings. Do you honestly think with a better democrat candidate Trump would in with such a chance at winning?

I'm not the one defending a rapist in fairness.

How would an actual white supremacist do better?

You know you're lying, and you don't care. What horrible misinformation to spread. You're the only one dealing in "alt facts".

“The man who lies to himself can be more easily offended than anyone else. You know it is sometimes very pleasant to take offense, isn't it? A man may know that nobody has insulted him, but that he has invented the insult for himself, has lied and exaggerated to make it picturesque, has caught at a word and made a mountain out of a molehill--he knows that himself, yet he will be the first to take offense, and will revel in his resentment till he feels great pleasure in it.”- ― Fyodor Dostoevsky, The Brothers Karamazov

There has ALWAYS been an issue of illegal immigrants in America - Nothing has changed on that , ever.

The number of illegal immigrants hasn't really changed in the US in decades , it's been about 11.5/12M people for years and years.

The only difference is that when the GOP are in opposition they start screaming and shouting about an "invasion" and how the world is going to end because of all these filthy brown people coming to steal everyone's jobs or worse.

Once they take office though they very quickly STFU about it and talk about something else and once they are out of office they start up the "Invasion" drums again.

Stop with the strawman stuff about what people do or do not think; again, this is the Donald Trump thread and if the GOP ran a better candidate they'd win v. Biden.

But running a new Democratic candidate instead of the sitting president? Firstly I'm not even sure that has been tried before, how that would be received by the public, and second - who? Who's gonna run against Biden in this circumstance that'd even have a chance at winning? You wanna talk serious, then at least put forward some realistic suggestions about who the DNC could be putting forward.

No point in talking about how terrible Biden is if there's no legitimate, sensible alternative out there that could beat Trump.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,020 ✭✭✭✭bucketybuck

The "invasion" at the border is literally a fiction created by the GOP to use as a stick to fight Biden with.

They are literally on record as admitting that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They said it, the words were recorded, it is a known fact and yet here you are repeating nonsense about illegal immigration.

    It is bizarre.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,661 ✭✭✭Dick phelan

I do not want Trump to be president again. But it is definitely a possibility which I believe would not be the case were he not running against Biden. There's no way Trump would have ever beaten Obama or Clinton for example.

Sure let's skip ahead to Trump being a Nazi then. This is Nazi dog whistling.

Facing criticism for repeatedly harnessing rhetoric once used by Adolf Hitler to argue that immigrants entering the U.S. illegally are “poisoning the blood of our country,” Trump insisted he had no idea that one of the world’s most reviled and infamous figures once used similar words. The Nazi dictator spoke of impure Jewish blood “poisoning” Aryan German blood to dehumanize Jews and justify the systemic murder of millions during the Holocaust.

You were gloating about the hurt feelings you think I'm going to have in November so this clearly isn't true. You can't have it both ways.

He's not going to win. It's really that simple. He's winning the primaries but by much smaller margins than before. He's facing almost a hundred charges and can barely retain a lawyer. He's done.

Are you even reading the thread?

EVERYONE has accepted that Biden is average at best.

We are making the point though, that the key GOP talking points about him are either wildly overblown or simply untrue.

The Economy is doing pretty well , but the improvements are taking time to get to the "average Joe" partly because of hangover from Trump Tax and Oil policies , but it is finally getting to them and the metrics prove it.

The "Border" isn't the issue the GOP claim it to be - It's not great , but it never has been and the GOP have no interest in actually solving it as has been shown.

I'd say the average grade people would give Biden would be a D+ or maybe C-

It would be great if the Democrats had a younger more vibrant candidate, but they don't.

The far bigger question is why so many Republican voters seem comfortable supporting someone so objectively awful as Trump - He is a criminal and a rapist, yet the GOP voters are going to pick him as their candidate.

Where is the critical analysis or questioning of that decision??

I presume you mean Bill cos ... ya know, he already did beat a Clinton.

And that's fantasy stuff to be blunt, you may as well talk about Trump going up against Kennedy for all the relevance it has. Trump won on a lot of anti-establishment anger so yes: given the mood he tapped into I think he might have beaten Bill Clinton or Obama.

Biden is the sitting president, no sitting president has been replaced for their second term AFAIK (open to correction and discounting illness or death), and unless a credible & nationally popular candidate is right there for the nomation - it'd be political suicide to switch candidates.

JFC the attack adverts from the GOP, and narrative from Trump alone if they switched out Biden would be insane for starters... while the rest of Biden's tenure would become the ultimate lame duck administration and arguably unable to continue; and what about VP? Do they bring in a new VP as well?

I know what you're saying, but what you're saying also has no confluence with reality, respectuflly.

He absolutely could win which I never thought possible after 2020. People said there was no way he'd win in 2016 and he did. Him winning again would be a sad reflection of the American political system and the state of it's two main party's. Hopefully he doesn't but it's certainly not clear he won't win. Probably what would be best for America is Biden winning and doing an FDR and it passing to his VP.

They have voted for Trump because within the Republican base he has created a kind of cult of personality. He has managed to convince many of them that he, a billionaire from NY understands their concerns and is taking on the establishment that is keeping them down. The Republican party at large is at fault for not condemning him stronger in 2021 and cutting him out. Too many of them were afraid to damage their political careers by calling him out. Ted Cruz for example couldn't do it despite Trump making personal attacks on his family. So the Trump train rolled on.

Go ahead and fact check his “poisoning the blood of our country” Hitler rhetoric while you’re at it. Condemn Neo Nazis? LOL

Standard Trumpster trope. It ignores what the Nazis at the rally were really there for. It was literally a white supremacist rally and Trump called them fine people.

Trivia point, it happened once where the elected President wasn't nominated. It has happened where VPs took over.

That was Franklin Pierce, the 14th president, who was elected as a Democrat in 1852. His pro-Southern sentiments and his policy of failing to lead on the divisive issue of slavery badly hurt his standing with the voters. Especially damaging was his support for the pro-slavery Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854, which backfired on him as Kansas was overrun by pro-slavery forces, mostly from the slave state of Missouri. The events angered Northerners everywhere and helped lead to the creation of the Republican Party. When Democratic delegates gathered in Cincinnati for their convention in 1856, it was clear that they had had enough of Pierce. James Buchanan, who had been defeated by Pierce for the nomination four years earlier, won the nomination on the 17th ballot.

Four other presidents were denied the nomination of their party, but none of these were elected in their own right.

Exactly - If they were at the rally they were not "very fine people" simple as that.

They may not have been card carrying members of the American Nazi party or whatever , but attendance at that event is automatically disqualifying from you ever being considered a "very fine person".

The language was specifically designed to allow people to think to themselves "When he talks about the very fine people , he was talking about me" letting them feel a bit better about the fact that they attended a far right white supremacist rally.

In saying what he did , he made it ok to support this kind of activity.

So , yes , he did "support Nazis".

It's not a completely different tactic to the one that pleaded those at Jan 6th riots were peaceful protestors, or indeed, tourists. Just dissembling to try and dismiss the idea that just cos those people didn't have swastika armbands then they weren't Nazis.

Indeed it's no less intellectually honest than the periodic attempts to claim Trump wasn't a rapist.

    Back to real time.

E Jean Carrolls lawyers have just rested their case so now it's over to Team Trump to present their defence.

Will Trump actually take the stand or not?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,020 ✭✭✭✭bucketybuck

Wanting to replace Joe Biden is fine, perfectly understandable.

Wanting to replace Joe Biden with a rapist who already made a pigs ear of the job once before, that is batshit crazy.

'Well, he did say peacefully, that should cover the hours long rally full of violent rhetoric'
