God, can you remember weather being this bad for so long? I just looked at the Shannon Airport data there on Met.ie. For the whole of December 2023, it rained every day except the 4th and 15th.

Just shocking isn’t it.You can’t do anything .in this weather. Ground is saturated, animals have no dry ground. Muck every where.

It's pretty much feed & in home after work, even with the days off over Xmas you could do nothing other than a bit of power washing

Travelled a good bit of road yestarday & the surface of secondary roads have gone to sh1t after all the water

Was dosing and moving lambs to higher ground today.Quad was actually skidding across surface of fields trying to get a grip🙄

And leaving tracks in spots that will be there till May!!…….never and I mean never saw ground as wet.Stock looking surprisingly well considering the wet grass they have been eating for months.

No frost at all last night here (midlands) after all the talk that it would be -5.

It was cold earlier (7ish) was milder around 11 but you’d still need a good coat and hat

Had three nights of -25-30°, -20 at the day time. It was cold, but beautiful weather. Today only -3°C.

We get very mild seasons here especially winter weather when you stop and think of the big variations in temperature from winter to summer in large parts of Europe

Over cast morning here and the smell of slurry in the air. Yesterday seemed like the first day of spring here. Lots of birds chirping away in the ditches too

Drizzling rain here in cavan today for a number of hour's. BBC forcast low pressure & rain for later next wkend, so BIG freeze expected?? Not hanging round . Lads in zone c needing relief this week may bale on with the slurry regardless & not be waiting on February's rains

Does Met Eireann think the country is stupid or what is the deal. Just heard the weather, we have a yellow weather warning for ice & low temperatures, they are also telling us that there could be animal welfare issues. What we actually have is January (Irish winter) weather we get it every year. Its perfectly normal and people should be well used of it and know exactly what needs to be done without weather warnings.

Couldn't agree more. I think this Yellow/Orange/red warning thing is total nonsense.

If 'Red' weather is on the way, that's fine. Issue a warning. Be in wind, rain or heat. Whatever. But as you say, 'yellow' is effectively just slightly worse than normal weather for the time of year.

Still down at 2 degrees here frost hasn't lifted much, water frozen in out farm but have ibcs full, not using a massive amount down there anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,577 ✭✭✭Wildsurfer

It's just a yellow warning, it just gives people the heads up to be prepared. Be that putting on heaters over pumps, top up antifreeze, leave a tap running to water troughs etc. The weather lately has been mild so people might not be ready for a cold snap. Dont see why you are so triggered by it.

    It's January expect cold weather

As long as I can remember the weather took a dive after Christmas, the TV cameras rolled into Limerick Regional Hospital for footage of patients on trolleys in the corridors. No sign of the TV cameras this January!!!

Back to the rain here with a bang, remnants of frost are long gone already, wind picked up a good bit around lunch time
