Mod closed thread for no reason

How do I dispute a mod that I see closed my thread for no reason.

He refuses to engage in private message after closing my thread. He just wrote "end of" to me in private message quite nastily.

Thanks ahnowbrowncow. Yeah he was very difficult to deal with.

    I've a question for everyone.

How do moderators get put into place.

    Is their behaviour reviewed?

Is their an appeals process against them. Where we can report them for unprofessional behaviour.

How do you complain about a mod?

As I explained to you across several PMs, you did not report a single post in that thread, instead you simply started abusing other posters you didn't agree with

    An example-

    That's not a civil discussion

I am not required to report any post. So that has nothing to do with anything

As I said to you across several PM's. You were completely unfair and unreasonable.

Several posters on that thread were nasty to me and said that my thread was " a wind up thread"

They were trolling me. In reply. I replied to one of them that "if he said my thread was wind up thread again, I would report him".

I said that in reply to him calling it a wind up thread.

You then very strangely , said that I was abusing him when he abused me first.

You then admitted in pm to me that you hadn't even bothered to read the thread.

Instead of giving me a first warning or anything on the thread. You closed the whole thread down.

    True

Several posters on that thread were nasty to me and said that my thread was " a wind up thread"

How are the mods supposed to know about this if you don't report such posts?

You then admitted in pm to me that you hadn't even bothered to read the thread.

I don't read every post in every thread, that's why the report post function is so invaluable. It draws moderator attention to posts that need reviewing. If you don't report posts chances are they won't get noticed by mods.

Instead of giving me a first warning or anything on the thread. You closed the whole thread down.

You had a warning already today for copy/pasting the op of your sexism thread into the immigration thread (which was completely off topic). I was not at all confident that your conduct would improve if I gave you another warning and based on your posts from the final page of the sexism thread closing it was really the only option as it was beyond salvage.

That was only part of my issue.

I want to write out what happened on full with this moderator.

I went to write a thread in the current affairs forum. It was titled "sexism in Ireland".

This moderator "tenofswords" immediately deleted the thread. I asked him why. He said "it doesn't belong in the current affairs forum".

I pointed out that many sexual abuse cases have been in the news in Ireland lately. And it does belong in the current affairs forum .

He eventually agreed to reopen the thread.

Then after a couple of hours he closed it again. I asked why. And he was rude and said things like "the thread is closed . End of".

He then said he closed the thread because I apparantly trolled a poster.

The post that he is referring to is this.

Several posters called my thread a wind up thread. In reply i said "if you call me a troll again I will report you". The moderator said that in this post I was trolling. And he closed the thread because do this.

I pointed out that other posters trolled me first and I had replied to them.

He them said "I'm not going to read the whole thread". And "im not reopening the thread end of".

He has been rude and abrasive from the beginning.

He ignored the other posters trolling and closed the whole thread for me trolling.

Surely if I was trolling I should just get a warning on thread.

The whole thread shouldn't be closed?

    The warning system is not:

I dispute your first warning. You deleted my thread the very second I posted it for no reason whatsoerver. As you said it didn't belong in the current affairs forum. It did belong in the current affairs forum

You were in the wrong there. I then wrote on another thread to ask advice . And you gave me a warning for that.

Also the warning system is not

    1) warning 2) close whole thread

I've seen people get more than one warning

After a quick read, I see that other people on this helpdesk have complained about tenofswords behaviour. Is anyone going to review or check his behaviour?

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 24,432 CMod ✭✭✭✭Ten of Swords

Lets be clear about the sequence of events

    1) You opened the sexism thread and after 2 posts I closed (not deleted) it saying it didn't belong in CA and suggested you check out The Ladies Lounge forum as it may be a better fit

    2) You immediately open a second thread with the exact same op. I close it and warn you not to open another one.

    3) We have a discussion by PM and I agree to re-open the first thread and let it run in CA

    4) In the meantime you have posted the same op - again - into the Immigration thread which earned you a warning.

    5) I delete the 2nd sexism thread and allow your first sexism thread to run. By the time it reaches 4 pages in length reports start to come in about posts in it.

    6) I read the reports and the last page of the thread and based on what I've seen I close the thread

    7) You send me multiple PMs and finally open a dispute - and here we are.

I will reply to every point .

I opened a thread called "sexism in Ireland " in the current affairs forum. You (the moderator) immediately closed it.

I asked you why by pm. You said "it doesn't belong in the current affairs forum".

I would like another moderator to be please look at that issue.

Of course sexism in Ireland is a current affairs issue. Sexual abuse and rape in Ireland is constantly in the news in Ireland.

To be told by a mod that "sexism in Ireland " is not a current affairs issue, is completely incorrect.

As you completely shut the the thread down, I asked a poster on another thread "why are some issues allowed in the current affairs forum and others are not". I did not copy and paste my op into another thread . I asked a poster for advice. You gave me a warning for this.

I asked you on pm again why did you close my thread and I pointed out that sexism is in the news in Ireland. You agreed to reopen the thread.

Them you closed the thread for a second time hours later. You said it was because you had received reports about me on the thread.

I said to you in pm that several posters had abused me on the thread, they called me paranoid ,and they said over and over to me that my thread was a windup.

You said in pm "well they reported you and you didn't report them".

Them reporting me doesn't mean that they were right. People who press the report button often do it to bully people. I was too nice to report people. And I didn't report anyone.

If someone reports someone it doesn't mean they are right and the person they are reporting is wrong. It is up to the mods to read the thread and see what happened. If you read the thread you can see that they were being nasty to me over and over, and I replied to one of them.

You said you didn't read the thread

I asked you to go and read the thread so you could see what happened.

You said to me that you don't want your thread reopened so the purpose of the thread is to review my conduct presumably.

I stand over the sequence of events I outlined above and it's listed there for the admins to check if they wish to.

I have nothing further to add so I'm out.

    Thanks :)

@tenofswords you shouldn't have closed the thread in the first place. You closed it for an incorrect reason. You said sexism in ireland is not a current affair. It is.

You shouldn't have closed the thread a second time.

Several of the posters on that thread were extremelt abusive to me. Yet you said I was trolling. Which wa grossly unfair.

As you can see, some of the posters from that thread have followed me here to abuse me again. They get a real thrill out of it.

The whole thing is completely unfair. Are there any other mods on here tonight. Maybe I'll have to wait until tomorrow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 151 ✭✭chacha11

Can anyone stop this person stalking and harassing me.

I should be able to start a dispute ,without the abusers from my original thread coming here to abuse me again

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 151 ✭✭chacha11

I didn't say that I didn't want the thread reopened.

You said to me nastily over and over

"I'm not reopening the thread. End of".

And I said to you in reply "I'm not asking you to reopen the thread.

You already had said to me three times that you weren't reopening the thread. And eventually I said I'm not asking you to reopen the thread you've already said you're not reopening it.

I Never wanted the thread closed.

    Have you read the thread?

Why did you let those men get away with abusing me.? And youve also let them get away with abusing me here.

You haven't accounted for anything that you have done

I do want the thread reopened

I also want other moderators to look at what happened.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 151 ✭✭chacha11

Also I thought the point of opening a dispute was for other moderators to come and have a look at what happened.

Not just for ten of swords to come here and argue rudely with me again.

As you see, he has spoken to me again in an extremely dismissive way. He refused to answer anything.

He refuses to even read the thread that he closed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 151 ✭✭chacha11

I thought a dispute thread was for other moderators and admins to come on and have a look.

Yet I've just had to argue with tenofswords the moderator again. And I've also had to deal with posters from my original thread come here and abuse me too.

Great dispute system. doesn't surpris em though

Again, report these things. Don't put up another post about them. You're doing it all wrong.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 151 ✭✭chacha11

I did report him. As I can see, nothing has happened from me reporting him

I put up a post here about the posters abusing me aswell as it's part of my dispute.

In my dispute, I mentioned that posters were abusing me on my original thread.

To prove what I'm saying, I'm pointing out to moderators, that some of those posters have followed me here to this thread to abuse me again.

No, the dispute resolution forum deals with pointed warnings or forum bans

Held Desk is the place to discuss something like this

I have deleted some posts. Although there is no restriction on anyone posting in threads in Help Desk, contributions need to be relevant, constructive and not uncivil or abusive

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,139 ✭✭✭✭anewme

Op did get called a troll but things got worse by answering them back on thread instead of reporting them.

Many of the replies to the OP were sexist and dismissive but I would think boards users are disproportionate vs society as a whole,

Thread as a discussion should not have been closed, but but can understand why mod did it as self policing was always going to end in a row.

A thread where a poster claimed that Irish men are disproportionately sexist and most speak to her like she's an animal?

Yeah, I'm calling bullshıt. I'll helpfully point out (as I was asked before the thread was closed) that the " A woman's place is in the home" part of the constitution is a throwback to an earlier time. It does not legally tie women to a lifetime of domestic duties, we are free to pursue education, work, drive, own our own homes, get married or stay single, have children or remain child-free by choice.

At least you got a response. Not just a random message telling you you have been warned for something random and then tumbleweeds when you point out that no reasonable person could have taken any offence from anything that was said.

Fair play to people who volunteer their time, but different people have different motivations for doing it and some probably shouldn't be doing it. They have their own pet issues and biases and appear to like to take out their own frustrations and insecurities on others.
