St Patrick's 5k run - what happened to it?

This used to be a great run through the city centre with nice reception in Mansion House after.

Presumably logistics, Garda cost and maybe TII have led to its demise ? And maybe the existence of parkrun reducing demand for 5k runs in general? Any chance it might come back?

Used to start and finish on Dawson St. Not many events that start and finish in the city center anymore, night races around Ringsend might be the last of it.

Think it was one of the first races to feel the wrath of newer planning regulations, went to a CC race in north Dublin last I heard of it.

Dublin city center races seem to be a thing of the past.

A shame. The events dotted throughout the year where great when I was first getting into running. Now I think Run in the Dark and the Marathon are all thats left (and DCC seem to be pushing the marathon to move so its days are numbered.)

What are the new planning regulations?

The women's mini marathon can do it, obviously that is a huge event - seems like DCM being pushed out - apart from possible reduced demand and increased cost how have rules changed to push it out?

Maybe MSB athletics who seemed to organise it decided the above meant it wasn't sustainable?

The Liberties Fun Run is a decent race on a nice city centre course in the James' Gate area. Also the Docklands 5k organised by Crusaders. Both races on summer nights after the traffic dies down.

City centre races are much costlier to organise - road closures, Garda, etc.

@Rossi7 sounds like a good race - would be interested in taking part - is it likely to be a sell out? Would I need to sign up soon or can I wait till closer to the date?

@GoGoMcFaster You should be alright leaving it a bit closer, 420 done it last year. €23 including postage so good value and well organised.
