Toll Charges

The M50 doesn't have toll booths, you pay online or in shops\garages that accept toll payments before 8pm the day after you pass through the toll.

If you take the N52 from Dundalk to the M6 at Tyrrelsspass you'll bypass the M1, M50 and M4 tolls saving yourself about €8 and it's usually a few minutes quicker as well.

to be fair, ive travelled mullingar to drogheda that way plenty and its a fine road, easier on the fuel too

You must pay going through each toll booth (except for the M50)

One other thing, im not sure if this is the case on all roads, i tried the M4 using my phone and it wouldnt accept payment, so just have a physical card, just in case

It is, I do it regularly enough and between fuel and toll savings its my preferred route.

Using your phone while driving can get you penalty points..... That's why they don't take it. No phone while driving and yes that counts.

At one stage there was talk that patching with your phone at a food drive through would also be a breach...

One more thing, on some tolls, can't remember which, it's common to not have any manned booths, so you'll need the exact change if paying by cash.

You may have had the issue with it not working, but that doesn't imply it was because it was disabled somehow, it could have been for any number of reasons. I get it sometimes using my phone in shops, no idea why.

Any that I have been through, so that would be M1 and all of M7/8/9, have had a manned booth - or is it possible that at some times of day the manned booth is closed ? It would be good to know where the unmanned booths are if possible.

When it comes to Tolls is there a reason a lot of Bus Eireann Buses dont have told tags i have noticed when i am waiting at the plazas sometimes i see the drivers paying in cash
