How much to give priest/church for christening

Hello, we're having our child's christening this weekend and we've no idea what is the expectation around how much to give to the priest/church.

If anyone has any advice around this it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

We normally give €150 and invite them to the afters! Curious what others think though …. Our priest is a good one though!

Some said was too much, some said to little.

Priest never said anything either way

Fifty is plenty in my view, it's an hours work and it's not as if they're paying tax on it.

Why does the priest need a tip at all. It's weird the things people think do or don't need a little extra based on traditions.

Me too Martin, our childer baptised CoI, nothing asked, nothing offered. Over forty years ago now. I wonder if its still the same now.

What someone can afford. Churches are extraordinarily expensive to keep heated, painted, insured and in general repair. Its activities involve expenditure be it anything from catechism to a musical director. 100 Euro seems fitting.

If you are there every week then you do not give anything. You both are active members of the congregation.

If you expect the services on demand then yes something is due

To close out this thread, we ended up giving 70 Euro, I presume the priest was happy with that, we didn't hear anymore anyway. Thanks everyone for your comments.

You'll know for the next child when the church will either be booked out for the foreseeable or the other Christenings will be cancelled to fit you in!
