Stud finder

    I want to put a shelf in hot press. I have one of those stud finders but its confusing to usr. Can anyone recommend one. I am worried about pipes and power

    They aren't great tbh unless you spend big money I think.

    In what way is it confusing you at the moment? Inconsistent results?

    I use a very simple rectangle that has two magnets attached to it. You glide it along the wall and the magnets stick to the plaster board nails. Haven't got a clue where I got it no batteries and has been accurate all the time.

    When magnets glide over a nail they pop of, so once I get one I just search straight down to find another screw to be sure its a stud

    I agree with the above about the stud finders. Regardless of the price they don't be great and tend to bleep in the same area for stud, metal and AC


    I'd use a light flat magnet and slowing move it around the level you intend to put the shelf at. It should detect the screws of the stud. Also get the handle end of the hammer and tap it along the area so you hear a firm v hollow noise to detect the stud.
