Booking those blue seats on Irish Rail. How?

Sometimes when you try and book regular seats on Irish Rail there is no response when you click on them. Why is that?

Then there are those seats in blue usually at end of a carriage where you it seems can not book at all!! Even if you try and book the day before the blue is still there and you can not book them. Yet the following day they are all booked with names or numbers above them.

What is going on?

The blue seats cannot be booked online.

They are priority seats which are reserved for those who have mobility issues.

They should really add a key though.

I can not believe that. The seats I am referring to are the single seats with no shared table. Frequently I am seated just one seat away from those blue sets and the people there show no signs of having mobility issues at all. I have never seen anyone with mobility issues on those seats. When I get up to go they too get up to go. Not a bother.

You ought to believe it because that is the official line from Irish Rail management.

They are reserved for people either with mobility issues or certain other needs that may need to be met. Note that not all people with issues that may require a seat in a certain location may have a visible need for them, just like not all disabilities are visible.

Generally they are close to doors.
