What about the start of the story where the bully ("strong man") is putting some of the weaker man's kids in hospital or an early grave for sport.

Suppose Israel can destroy all the Hamas militants in Gaza, and the hostages are either recovered or ,sadly found dead ,what would be the next step?

Israel seems to want to "seal Gaza off" somehow so that this thing never happens again.

    Can that be done?

I don't suppose Egypt wants the territory does it.?If I was a Gazan I might well like that idea but would they continue to want a Palestinian state including Gaza(and probably all of Israel too) even after Hamas has gone?

I get the feeling that the Palestinians as a whole will support a group like Hamas so long as they are free to Express themselves.

It reminds me of here. The SDLP lost out to SinnFein and I think Fatah will lose out to Hamas now (if it hasn't done so already)

1000 Hamas terrorists died during the violent incursion into Israel on October 7th (Israel is one of the most heavily armed countries in the world)....that's why comparisons with 9/11 etc are probably not good ones.

@Tigerbaby - "I'd rather help the poor people of Palestine, who have suffered genuine genocide, than any other body of people on Earth"

You do realise that out of their free will, they chose Hamas to be their government? Their own government refuses to give their own people water, food, medicine, electricity. It's not up to Israel to provide any of that. They have built 500km of tunnels, bunkers and fortifications (with our tax money), but only for Hamas use. And they haven't built a single bomb shelter for civilians. What's that saying again, a people deserve the leadership they get? In this case it goes a step further as they elected Hamas.

An Israeli minister has been suspended from government meetings "until further notice", Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said, after suggesting in an interview dropping a nuclear bomb on Gaza, and saying Palestinians should "go to Ireland or the desert".

I'm proud that Ireland is brought up by someone who thinks a nuclear bombing of Gaza would be appropriate.

Rantisi Pediatric Hospital has just been bombed. Many accounts saying the third floor was badly hit. That's where the only paediatric cancer department in Gaza is located.

I was only reading something there recently about how they were running out of drugs to keep kids on that floor alive..........

Is that the latest talking point now? Bring up the aid to Gaza and make out it's wasted tax payers money. Make out that Irish tax payers are funing Hamas.

It's been brough up umpteen times that the last free election Gaza had was back in 2006 and the majority of people did not vote for Hamas, it's also pointed out that nobody aged 35 and under in Gaza today voted for Hamas.

Their own government cannot independently supply it's citizen with fresh water, electricity, medicine etc... because Israel have a blockade in place. Gaza could import all the medicine, fuel etc... they need, but Israel have a naval blockade in place since 2005.

If people want to talk about wasted Aid, they shouldn't leave out the cynical deliberate destruction of aid we do send from this country

People inside the building accidentally set there stock pile of petrol bombs on fire ,

It's been done to death over the last 10 years your Offering nothing new but BS and a wiki,

Explain the Hamas millionaires and billionaires funded by who ????

Some how I don't think property in Gaza is worth very much

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,299 ✭✭✭✭unkel

A lot of bull in that statement. Hamas are perfectly capable of making electricity. And drinking water out of sea water through de-salination equipment. But obviously they won't let their own people use it. Palestinian Hamas care less for the wellbeing of Palestinians than Israel do.

Oh and a wee history lesson for ya. Hitler never got a majority of voters either. Yet he got into power and he and his nazi government caused millions of Germans to die. It was on them, not on the allied bombardments (although we now would call those war crimes - unlike Israel's bombardments). "Innocent" German civilians terribly suffered. Far worse then Gazans ever will. Did they ever whinge or were there ever any protest marches about that? Of course not. Reap what you sow.

Again. West Bank. No Hamas. Just some Bedouins who had the audacity to try to live on the land where their ancestors have lived for generation upon generation.

Just tell me how Gaza can make electricity? Can't run a desalination plant without electricity.

This is one of the worst takes I've seen on here in a period of many bad takes.

That you, and others think that the biggest and most rapidly organized protests of our generation is motivated because of a hatred of Jewish people is abhorrent. And disgusting.

The vast majority of those protesting express nothing but solidarity with what is a dying nation of people and even in the absence of evidence to support your argument you make such a statement.

There is no evidence to support your claim and yet you make it, as all too many others do who suggest antisemitism is the root cause for holding a nation to account as they look to inflict on another nation the thing their parents and grandparents swore must never happen again. Never Again!

To then go on as you do where you describe increasing death tolls in the tens of thousands like you are hypothesising on possible attendances at a concert or sporting occasion or whatever like it's no big deal if it's the smaller or greater number is chillingly ambivalent to the suffering that will be experienced alongside such numbers.

I've been stuck here for a couple of minutes wondering how to express what I feel about people who think this way and agree with this way of thinking. But I can't say what I want to say because of Boards guidelines while it is OK to casually dismiss the handful of people who have died in Gaza since I started writing this post like they are somehow inconsequentia, almost as if they didn't exist in the first place.

Ah the Bedouins (arab, Islam) who got slaughtered by Hamas on October 7th? Pleading for their lives, talking in the same language as their lunatic attackers.

Hamas needs to be exterminated. Almost at all cost.

If there was a Hamas fighter hiding in your shed, would you consider the bombing of your property and the killing of your family a justifiable cost?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,325 ✭✭✭✭Donald Trump

You think it was the same people who had their tents and humanitarian Aid trashed by Israeli forces in the West Bank?

Might want to lay off whatever you are ingesting there

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,299 ✭✭✭✭unkel

If I voted for Hamas and ignored warnings to leave the war zone?

The strong man starts bombing the weak man’s entire extended family and shouting anti-Semite at anyone who suggests that punishing the collective for actions of the few is also wrong?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,426 ✭✭✭sock.rocker*

Your children would have been too young to vote for Hamas. Are they acceptable collateral damage?

You guys don't even realise it but you have turned into this:

Almost at all costs? Are you for real? This is surely just trolling at this stage.

The IDF just targeted a paediatric cancer department on the third floor of a paediatric hospital. I think they heard the kids were helping Hamas build a tunnel up there. I suppose that was within the "almost all costs"

Such flippant comments sound like pure evil to me.

Based on what’s happened so far they will now be ramping up the bombing on the civilian corridor

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,426 ✭✭✭sock.rocker*

Yes, absolute evil. I cannot for the life of me understand how these people sleep at night.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,299 ✭✭✭✭unkel

Silly, naive comment. The IDF has no reason to target civilians. They target Hamas and yes, that causes terrible civilian casualties. If we can agree that Hamas must be exterminated, do you have any suggestions how the IDF can do it with fewer or no civilian casualties?

Because that’s what’s been happening. Anyone who even suggests that indiscriminate bombing causing the deaths of 10s of thousands of civilians and injury to many more are actually praising Hamas.

You know, two things can both be true at the same time. Hamas can be a vile organisation guilty of vile atrocities and at the same time Israel can also by guilty of collective punishment of an entire people who lie simultaneously giving Hamas the propaganda that the wanted in the first place
