UDF if I remember correctly allows you to keep adding files to a dvd - the alternative way would have been to burn a disk in one go and its a regular readonly dvd.

How do you use the disks? Are the contents of the disk visible on a computer in file explorer... Can you see the names of the files on the dvd drive?

If you can see the files - You could try copy pasting these to a usb stick - from file explorer right click on file and copy and paste on the usb drive.

Its possible depending on the how it was recorded - the disk might need to be "finalised" before its readable - preferably on the pc that made it - but try the above first.

So I was probably clicking on the wrong bit. I went into the folder and see that the files are listed as "VOB Video File (VLC). When I made these copies the actual copying process would have been completed as I recall the message saying something like "finalizing session". I see an option now when I right click to "send to" so I can select the usb stick. Ill give it a go later. Thanks.

Is anyone else finding YouTube impossible? I have ABP and Ghostery switched off for Youtube, but still it tells me every time that I need to switch off my ad blockers. They are switched off. Sometimes I can get it to work by going through the motions of switching it off again and refreshing the page, but mostly it does not work. There is a page that ghostery opens and plays the video but there are ads - the same mindless nonsense - every five minutes (literally) and meanwhile the video continues in the background.

I am thinking I might allow myself to be nagged into getting Premium (€12 a month) but in the meantime, has anyone else got the same issues?

I got so fed up with that "Dis is not a vater bottle" ad that I went and installed the Brave browser. YouTube works perfectly on it, no ads and no need to pay for YouTube Premium.

Ublock Origin sorts the youtube nagging in Firefox and Chrome at least. Make sure the filter lists are freshly updated in it though.

Guys…. Been using a IOL.IE email for years. Any idea who runs it now? Am looking to protect myself if it closes down. So am looking at getting a ‘paid’ subscription of some sort that will protect me going forward. What are Boardies using outside of Gmail?

Blacknight took over the email service from a few legacy ISPs, such as IOL, 4 years ago.

To be honest…. Am thinking of doing that going forward. Will have to advise all future correspondents on my iol.ie to change my details to gmail. So… a good years work ahead of me

Just keep hold of the IOL address for the time being and get everything forwarded to your gmail address, if its for business then maybe get an email only hosting domain, cost a pittance per year

I'm uilsing Firefox and uBlock. Never had an adblock alert

Thanks for the Brave suggestion, I have installed it and it looks good. Its also sorted YouTube. I have Firefox but I don't use it as I don't like the look of it.

I appreciate that YouTube and other sites are there as a business and I don't object to reasonable ad content but the YouTube stuff was a mess.

I haven't used Instagram ads but Ive used Facebook ads years ago. Usually targeted based on your browsing history, other ads youve clicked on, your age, location etc.

It doesn't mean you're being labelled a perv or anything by mistake 😆. More like sellers are trying to guess what would catch your attention.

Yip started using Brave recently myself. Really like it. Somehow it manages to run quicker and use a lot less resources than other popular browsers (on my system anyway. Win 10 64 bit).

Just got a new laptop so I am using Win 11, not entirely sure what the differences are yet.

Opera also blocks it. Brave works well.

YouTube has become unusable with ads. The irony of Google more ads in YouTube (and everywhere tbh) causing people to switch from Chrome.

Usual trick is to bait you into looking at something say woodworking but it's really a smut channel. Then it will bombard you with smut until you click ignore on a ton of those channels.

I think it's weird behaviour for a mainstream app.

Because you don't want to give your private information to a company who's core business model is about making money from your private information.

Try Protonmail - secure, encrypted email service, where they have zero access to your content, hosted in Switzerland, so very difficult for anyone to get at, even with Court orders. €8 a month for the basic service, which I think includes the VPN. You'll get yourself a nice neat @pm.me email address.

I have been using Adblocker for few years and yes in last month Youtube have been warning me etc and eventually stopped access unless I allowed ads or signed up to Premium. Someone suggested logging out of youtube account.... that worked but my settings did not carry over. I found I had also inadvertently logged out of gmail so had to log back in to that and lo and behold, I am also logged back into Youtube.... but no ads! Yes I use Chrome and adblocker is an extension on that. It is a salutary lesson that I am addicted to Youtube :( Adblocker is 'free' but I give them a few euro whe requested as value the service they provide.

I have a proton account but have not paid anything for it? It is just there as a back up. I have been using gmail for over 12 yrs now and it is a record of my life as I keep 'sent' email tho I see I will soon reach the limit of storage with free account. Previously I had a hotmail and got fed up with the spam there so moved but there is a feature that will forward hotmail to gmail but the porn etc does not get thru.

Everyone should be using Brave and ProtonMail (basic version is free).

That Protonmail looks impressive. Can anyone tell me what is a ‘custom email domain’ means??

It means you can make up your own suffix after the @ symbol. So boardsuser@internetn00b.com for example :-)

In Brave - Settings, be sure to switch off ALL the superfluous options. There are a fair few...

Another problem with the new laptop. I am using Windows 11, Bravo and sometimes Chrome. Fairly frequently the window I am on becomes bigger as I move the curser. I cannot figure out exactly what is causing it, it seems very random and I cannot see how to make it smaller again. If I am quick enough to bring the curser back (ie, I have swiped right and immediately swipe left) it can reduce again, but if I have released the curser I cannot get it to go smaller. It does not seem to relate to the Zoom function - that will still say 100%. I usually end up closing the window and starting again. I have switched off the Magnifier function. Any suggestions?

If you put 2 fingers on the touchpad and spread them apart, it will zoom in on the screen,

if you put 2 spread fingers on the touchpad and snap them together it will zoom out

Its a feature added copying smart phones

You need be careful to only let 1 finger touch the touchpad, and keep it dry as 1wet finger this can be confused with 2 fingers

This feature can be turned off in settings devices touchpad, zoom

    Or use a wireless mouse
