It's almost like they believe that people should join together and those than have money help put those that are on hard times.

Sounds suspiciously like socialism to me. But it can't be as I know that they all hate that.

And you'd speculate how many of those people are members of a "church" whose pastor shakes them down for money for important works - while espousing poverty as sinful from the pulpit?

Look at the Chyron at the bottom of the screen: "protect your wealth from record inflation"; I wonder how much that advice will cost and who it'll enrich. The rest looks like a mixture of faith based conspiracy. All very telling.

Fox News are now openly threatening GOP House members who do not vote for Jim Jordan as speaker.

A Hannity Producer has sent this via email to all GOP House reps who have yet to publicly declare their support for Jordan.

    image.png

So basically , if you don't vote for Jordan we are going to drag you on our show and hurt your election chances.

But the "Librul Media" is the corrupt one apparently...

no surprise that Hannity thinks he can control GOP elections, when the previous President called him for advice on foreign affair matters.... ffs

Hannity is acting on instructions from MAGA HQ.

Jordan knows that he is deeply unpopular among the rest of his House colleagues for good reason , so his only path to the Speakers gavel is to set the MAGA loons on the hold-outs threatening them with being Primaried.

It's really hard to see how he gets 50+ of the 55 that said they wouldn't vote for him to change their minds though.

Even if he does though it's still incredibly damaging to the GOP Majority, it's just lose-lose all round.

If someone in a swing district folds and votes for Jordan , they make it more likely that the Democrats take the seat.

If they don't fold and they get primaried by some far right nut-bar , they make it more likely that the Democrats take the seat.

Same Hannity that was accused of being part of the fake news cabal recently?

Supposedly they talked every night before bed time, you can imagine those calls.

    “You hang up first “

    ”No, you hang up first”

At this stage I am assuming they will ultimately flip to support Jordan due to MAGA pressure.

If they don't, and Jordan doesn't get in, it shows that MAGA dominion is wavering over the Republicans. Something I'll only believe when I actually see it.

This is why Biden has a 2:1+ fundraising lead over the entire GOP side including Trump.

Their crimes have bankrupted an entire party. And a few of its supporters.

    Darn shame...

    I'm not sure..

It's a huge number of people to convince to change their minds - 55 of them said they won't vote for him in a floor vote and he needs to flip 51 of them to get elected.

He's not offering them anything positive , it appears to be all stick and no carrot.

What's interesting is that Trump has pretty done much nothing to help Jordan.

Yes , he gave his "support" but he's not working the phones to drum up support or whatever.

It's typical of Trump in general, he's bone idle and has no interest in doing something to help other people but if Jordan fails to get over the line people will blame Trump or certainly say that Trumps influence is no longer as strong.

Trump won another prize in court today: another gag order

The court, court staff, witnesses and Special Counsel Jack Smith are off limits in the DC January 6 interference case.

Judge Chutkan cited Trump's own spox who this weekend stated on behalf of his client: Trump seeks "to try this case in the court of public opinion."

His lawyers tried and failed to defend calling Jack Smith and others "thugs" etc. "Tell me how the term 'thug' is justified here'" she reportedly asked, "it raises a real possibility of violence."

When asked about Trump targeting staff in another court, she asked his lawyer if that was acceptable. He wouldn't advise Trump to do that he said reportedly.

Lawyers tried to argue witnesses "give as good as they get" in exchanging political barbs with Trump.

"Really, are you saying they said Mr. Trump should be executed?"

I have a feeling that we may see someone/an element with the GOP actually stand up to the MAGA cult and see them shunned. I may be completely wrong but some of Trump's recent speeches just seem a bit "lack luster" and I think they've creatively peaked.

Hannity seems egotistical enough at this point that he feels he can strongarm politicians into supporting Jordan for Speaker

by reports though those lawmakers are not just non receptive but reportedly hostile to those attempts, indicating it is "counterproductive" according to unverified tweets from the cesspit.

    image.png

'with the wars, with the border' etc. why would you push a nonviable candidate for Speaker more like.

I see in the Irish Independent today that Trump is leading polls in 4 out of 6 swing states. This is despite all the indictments and court cases and his unhinged behaviour. As of now, he is favourite with bookmakers to be the next president. It says a lot about America and the lack of leadership that this is the case. I think a lot of people are expecting that as court cases take place, Trump's popularity wii decline. However, he has had 7 years of negative publicity and still somehow is leading the polls. Not sure how this can be changed

18 months out chief, so those polls are worthless and bookies odds are skewed by bets logged so no point in using them either. Try harder

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,227 ✭✭✭✭Leroy42

Biden isn't campaigning. Trump is already doing plenty of rallies. There is massive indifference to politicians and politics outside of the elections themselves so my guess (and its nothing more) is that people are hearing Trumps message only.

When the campaign starts the Dems will be pushing the court cases etc hard and that will have a big negative effect on Trump. Can't see any way that Trump will gain support once the other side comes out.

I don't want to see the imbecile Trump elected, all I am pointing out he is currenly favourite. I have been hearing for ages that impeachments, Russian collusion, the Capitol insurrection etc is going to be the end of Trump. In spite of all the idiotic things he did, he very nearly won the last election. Not sure why you think I should try harder, I am totally against Trump. All it takes is Biden to have a stumble or a senior moment and Trump becomes a big favourite

That's a quirk of betting markets and the other GOP runners being below DNC runners who won't even run (Michelle Obama for example).

I can't imagine his insipid threats to execute witnesses etc. helped his case for a delay there.

I just think that there is complacency on the democratic side. The vast majority in America have already made up their mind about Trump, even independents and polls are showing him ahead. So much has been revealed about Trump that any new revelations are not going to move the needle

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 86,683 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

I don't think biden's current fundraising lead, or the 2018 midterms, or the 2020 election, or the 2022 midterms indicate complacency on the democratic side. Seats have been flipped, retained and lost that blew the republicans sides own expectations out of the water time and again, and the reason is turnout, the reason is losing gerrymanders, because people on the democratic side are fighting and winning up to the SCOTUS to eliminate those gerrymanders. etc.

I don't know what more they could be doing, that argues a complacency. The legal arguments over the insurrection clause are already turning. Polls this far out mean nothing. Most voters are not 'likely voters' and don't even show up in these polls. But they show up on election day, especially if motivated by existential threats, such as the one Trump represents and I think the shutouts in each election since his surprise election have slapped the electorate in the face for the actual complacency it had in 2016, that we could just 'sit this one out, Hillary would win it by the skin of her teeth, and that'll teach the Dems to be more progressive/less nepotist next time' etc

Tomorrow marks 14 days of Republicans unable to govern themselves, and leaving the House in an unprecedented absence of a Speaker.

But they are pushing the vote to tomorrow at Noon EST. He has only so far today reportedly picked up an additional 3 votes as of noon today. He reportedly lacks upwards of 10, up to ~20. Only 6 block them getting a Speaker put in place, with some who will reportedly never do so, like George Santos.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,781 ✭✭✭Flaneur OBrien

Maybe you’re right. Maybe Santos would never vote for Jordan, but does Anthony Devolder have a vote? Does he have to agree with Santos?

The Biden campaign following up their stellar fundraising with some big dick swinging cowboy energy.

They've made their 1st post over on truth social. I cannot wait to see how the free speech purists respond to this one 🤣🤣
