Will feel even worse watching this England team reaching a SF.

Ireland don’t have the depth to win a World Cup.scrummaging for s terrible and u have gotten away with it for ages.line out ****.all the posters in here loved talking the team up when in fact they nothing close to a World Cup winning team.

posters saying oh if sexton made the kick,ok then but what if Barrett made his kick.

when other teams are getting ready for the WC building depth Ireland took that and thought that they were the best since sliced bread.

Didn't double check this, but a friend assures me our scoring difference over the 8 QFs is -136, so on average we have lost each match by 17 points. Not great.

I tell you what you can do. Go through the birth certs of all international rugby teams. And when you're finished the soccer ones. Including the Irish soccer team.

List all the players for us you find born in countries different to who they play for now.

    Thanks!

Will never understand people who take pleasure in their team losing because of some weird tragic little bias that they have. So odd.

Sorry for your loss BTW, I thought it was impressive that we kept ourselves in the game under some relentless pressure at times. So close in the end.

Ireland played against 14 men for 20minutes tonight and didnt capitalise on it....never took the lead once....

Im getting more pissed off about the performance as i think about it more and more...

The gallant loser talk should be treated with the same contempt as the mick doyle "winning the 2nd half" remark....

Ireland played wales in 2011…got hammered. 🤷‍♂️ then Argentina in 2015…hammered again. 🤷‍♂️

Black and white for me, once again we do not reach a world cup semi final.

You can have all the ifs, buts and maybes you want, we have failed to progress past a world cup quarter final for the 8th time.

Conversely NZ have won 8 of 9 quarter finals. That eclipses any 17 game winning streak.

Tonight also confirmed what we all said pre kick off that both sides depended on fast starts. It goes under the radar but NZL were just as nervous as we were but unlike us they got that quick start and then grew into the game from there whereas we just got more and more rattled as the game went on.

Wait another week and see how you feel after that potential semifinal 😂

Well **** me that was an exhausting match. Really felt after the shite first half to be so close that we'd go on and win it and we so almost did. I think the team thought they'd still win it right up until the last second which is a credit to them but I'm devastated with the result.

Gutted for the team but we definitely malfunctioned slightly. Nerves seemed very present throughout and playing out first team for every game has come back to bite us I feel.

Crazy the way the draw was when you look at the other quarter final today but what can you do but beat who's Infront of you and unfortunately we could not.

    Gutted

Just back from SDF ... met a fellow Ireland supporter in the elevator of my hotel. His words:

My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.

We didn't say anything else after that. We didn't need to.

    F*ck.

Unlucky, sure. But it's not really an excuse when going into a WC sitting #1 in the world rankings. We are more than good enough a team for the win tonight, but we failed to perform where it was needed.

This time tomorrow night France, the hosts, or South Africa, the reigning champions will also be on the plane home (well France the bus).

If it's France will be a disaster for the tournament. Hope they go on and win it.

Ireland had #2 and reigning champions in their group, and #5 in the world. Look at the paths that previous winners have had. RSA played Japan in a QF 4 years ago.

There'll be a clear out and reset now in time for the 6 nations. Sexton, Murray, POM, Henderson (?), Earls, Killer will be gone and we go again.

New Zealand played a near perfect game and we were a little edgy and off the pace. Sometimes that's enough. Would rather be where we are (both Ireland & Provinces) than England, Wales, Australia.

I agree with you both, to be honest: an excellent game between two great sides. But one team had the edge mentally, and the other did not.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,813 ✭✭✭JeffKenna

But the IRFU pays the players their salary to come and play for a province and then play for Ireland. It's based on money. Bit disingenuous to compare that to soccer.

Is there anything to be said for hiring a few more All Blacks?

You know Ireland lost? Were the NZ players all 10 and 11/10?

well last WC the quaterfinal was over in 20 mins , this game went to the wire - first one since 1991 where we stayed competive .

Knockout rugby is differenent, I have endured the highs and lows, but t is becoming a thing now, like Mayo , but it will happen , but unfortunatly it will be least another 4 years, and never for Johnny and POM , imagine how the players feal

Many thanks. Proud of the resolve they showed when previous teams would have folded 13-0 down. We kept fighting. It wasn’t our day. Small margins compounded. Every NZ chip seemed to bounce their way today. Hansens kick for Sheehan bounced over his head. Sometimes they’re the little moments that lead to a team imposing themselves on a game.

Hi day is ruined? Lucky there is less than an hour left in the day and enjoys his early night lol.

One thing id say is soccer players at least have to have a solid link to the country like a parent or grand parent.

Rugby is becoming a joke at this rate. 20 percent of our team tonight were born and reared in NZ.

This time 4 years ago England had just lost the final looking far better than Ireland (England also had the tough group issue in 2015). No guarantees where they'll be in 4 years. While Ireland were close, they lost where its counts and won nothing once again. You can only beat who's in front of you. World rankings don't mean squat.

England are rubbish but they'll probably be in a semi final

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,479 ✭✭✭landofthetree

Ireland were favs with bookies in NZ as well. I checked.

Usually NZ are under savage pressure from their own media and fans. Reading a few New Zealand newspapers and media outlets online they all were very worried. I think it helped NZ to be the underdogs for once.

The world ranking are rubbish as Matt Williams said before the game.

We are not a good enough team in knockout rugby as we have not taken the lead in a knockout rugby game in almost 3 decades.

We didn't perform because we met a better stronger, faster and fitter team. I think that's the hardest thing to take
