Not a bad price for a big battery ID.4 in a decent spec, nice colour and small enough km’s.

Shite - I've alerts on Donedeal for low cost EV's and it never sent one for that. Granted it probably sold faster than I would have been able to make it it Carlow.

Sold. It was the only one sub €30k. That’s probably where the market is at.

That spec brand new is €60/63k after grants, which frankly is absolutely nonsense. They’re depreciating like big enormous rocks.

How much was it when it was sold though. 48 k? Still not great mind.

Yeh the owner of this specific car is only out maybe €20k over 2 years, allowing for dealer margin, but let’s face it, it’s not a €62k car, so it’ll drop more in the same period once the 2nd hand market very quickly resets that pricing to its correct level. Its done it for over-priced ICE cars for decades

€43k. And the car is nearly 3 years old. So has only had 30% depreciation (a bit more if you take into account dealer margin), which is pretty low, isn't it? And to top that off, I feel the car was sold a little bit too cheaply. There's very little else big enough SUV with a long range for that sort of money. Cheapest one for sale now out of nearly 300 is €34k from a dealer. I'd say roughly €30k private sale and €32k from a dealer are where it's at.

30% depreciation on an ID.4 isn’t bad considering all that’s happened with Tesla price cuts etc. There is a lot of used ID.4’s on DD at the moment, most are probably overpriced by €3K-€5K. It was a decent EV for the money compared to what €30K would have got you 6-12 months ago.

50% depreciation in 3 years would have been considered normal pre covid. Generally speaking Volkswagens have always depreciated less than that tho.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,418 ✭✭✭creedp

Well its massive compared to a M3 with asking prices with between 10% and 20% depreciation for the same year. Im not an SUV fan bit at those prices I might conisder relenting

Asking prices often not relevant especially in a falling market. We won’t really know where Tesla residuals end up here until the recent fleet of 231 Model Y’s are 2-3 years old.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,418 ✭✭✭creedp

Ah I get that but it seems ID4 asking prices are now dropping below the far cheaper M3

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,426 ✭✭✭✭unkel

Model 3 is almost 2 years older (early model of both) and sell for a lot less than any ID.4

But got to agree with you, for someone not interest in a Model 3 or its tech, or someone who needs a more practical family car, the early well specced ID.4 is starting to look like a very nice proposition. Always liked the look of them myself and I am not into SUVs, never had one.

Agree with you. Ive never owned an SUV either and am not interested in one at present. Ive been holding out for a well priced M3 LR but they are hard to come by. Tbh if 2021 ID4s were going for low 30s it would be a decent alternative, as you say more practical if a tad less exciting

There was a keenly priced M3LR 211 in MSM/Grey for 35k list price last week and about 55k km, which sold after a few days. Was tempted myself but will wait until Highland starts appearing for more offers, since no doubt lots of people will want to swap for the latest and greatest etc. etc.

€35k is far too much for one imho. @creedp - any reason you want a LR Model 3? The short range has a similar motorway range to the LR ID.4 and there are plenty of them for sale, here's a nice one, for sale for ages, I'd say €23k might take it at a push for a serious buyer playing the game right

It might be overpriced but its not easy to find one for less than €40k at the moment. I actually didn't see that €35k one and would have been interested. I was looking at one with asking of €41k and dealer wouldnt budge a €. Would agree that €25k SR is good value even with 130k km

As for why an LR? More power😂 with 4wd and decent range being the added bonus, been driving 7 seaters for years and consider I deserve a [decent value] respite😂😂

Well you don't seem to be in a hurry, so keep an eye on it a few times a day. Regular here bought a LR AWD for €25k + auction fees a few months ago. That said, the enormous dip in Tesla second hand prices from earlier in the year seems to have gone now. It must have been owners under pressure to sell as they had new cars being delivered. Prices have picked up considerably.

No not in a massive hurry, just getting increasingly frustrated with a progressively reducing range Leaf

New one today in that spec is 63k. If they are asking 29k you’d imagine at best the seller would get 28k on trade-in so cost to change for 3 years of €35k??

It’s not depreciation percentage but cost to change that is really more important to most buyers. If they were trading Tiguans every two years for less than 10k, being asked 30k to trade up an ID4 is going to be a shock.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,426 ✭✭✭✭unkel

Anyone paying €63k for one surely must know that is very poor value for money and massive depreciation is going to be a certainty.

Yeah ID4 does look v dear new now - even with 0% finance. I really doubt the average ID4 buyer would be expecting 30k+ to trade up after two years though, these are people coming out of the likes of Tiguan. Obviously this depreciation level is not exclusive to VW, I see on FB, an Ionic 5 owner is asked for 25k to trade up in January - 12.5k per year. If folk are okay forking out that money, it will mean good news for bargains in the new year

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,502 ✭✭✭sk8board

the cost to change argument here is huge.

imagine having a 221 ID4 and being asked for €30-35k to change into a 241 just 24 months later, with higher interest rate repayments? It will be a hard no from many people.

anyone paying €63k for an electric version of their current Tiguan is absolutely going to lose their shirt over 3 years.

as for the m3, the early Fremont €48k 2020 ones are selling sub €29k, but the price-reduced ones this year will probably sell for similar sub €30k money in 3 years time, so they represent better value today, never mind the incremental improvements it’s had over the years.

@Casati - "I see on FB, an Ionic 5 owner is asked for 25k to trade up in January - 12.5k per year"

I don't think we should take into account individual deals as proposed by a single dealer. Lots of them are chancing it. Because in their experience, some buyers will just say "ah ok, where do I sign?" 😂

    VW hitting that now.

A 2022 GTX ID4 sold out of Windsor Motors recently for €43k. That was a €70k car new only last year!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,105 ✭✭✭✭User1998

Ouch, and I’d imagine the customer who bought it new only got given €35k or so for it if they are advertising it for €43k

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 41,767 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

They initially had it up for €50k. I had it saved on DoneDeal and watched it drop €1k every 2 weeks.

    300bhp.

But VW software restricts the performance to a limited time frame and only while the batter SOC is above a particular %. It’s really weird on VW’s behalf.

I think if the had their software and car functions sorted it would be a great car. It’s the No. 1 selling EV, but how much of that is because of the brand loyalty and 0% offers on the base model. 2 of my mates bought one each this year. Based 150bhp versions purely because they had a VW and on paper their monthly payment didn’t change.

I think the software can be fixed, no doubt with external help

Myself, I’d consider an ID4 a risky buy and that’s from a Fremont built Tesla owner 😂 The Facebook group is just full of owners posting about problems!
