Irish rugby is in a great place, if all the seagulls can find to complain about, are the songs fans sing.

Yep even Ringrose moving out of 13 is position is a big danger ..but then could we lose our two wings two weeks in a row...im just looking at the Sheahan try and JGPs role in that is phenomenal for a player out of position

For all the talk we should probably be thankful Wales England Fiji and even Argies Aussies and Samoa were not in our group.

If you'd offered me Ireland topping the group of death, convincingly, a year ago, I'd have bitten your hand off. And yet, Ireland looked comfortably in control of the entire thing, even when playing South Africa, and even when two quick ties went in against Scotland.

As fans, we're looking for problems. This Irish team are something we've not seen before. Ruthless, efficient, and adaptable. The biggest test of all comes a week from now. But I've full confidence in the team. Seize the moment.

James Lowe may not have gone to hospital with that eye injury but hospital is where he should be with it. If you're losing vision at any stage, and it sounds like he did, no chances whatsoever should be taken, especially as regards a possible retina problem. Source: somebody who got a sudden macula off retinal detachment a year ago and has been buggered ever since.

Yeah reminds me of this Dara O'Briain routine

There was a thing on the cover of the London Evening Standard, it had this thing which said,

"Ten symptoms you should not ignore."

And you read that and think, "Right, there's

gonna be something which I've had for a while

but it's been low level and I've

    never done anything about it,

but it hasn't gone away and maybe

I should get that checked out."

That's what you presume it is,

    you know what I mean?

    The first three symptoms you

should not ignore were:- rectal bleeding, loss of height and sudden blindness.

    Who ignores sudden blindness?!

Seems like we might have an answer...

Great performance, some silky play and tries, blew them away early, whipped off Sexton and empty the bench - job done. Again left a few tries out there, so there are work ons.

This should settle the Sexton vs Russell debate as the best 10 (but I’m sure it won’t)

Gibson Park’s jackal was one of the moments of the match for me! Some amazing attacking moments from Ringrose too he had a great game.

The evolution of Irish rugby songs continues. It was Molly Malone in my youth, then The Fields (which is here to stay) and now Zombie. I think Zombie creates a great atmosphere, I wonder is it a passing thing or here to stay..

I've a massive horn on me right now!!!

Finn Russell has never been in the same status as Demi God Johnny.

VDF is amazaballs. Complete energizer bunny. No stop to him.

I think it was a mistake to play Ryan today with an injury. That could be him done. I assume he pi ked up the injury v Tonga or S.A.

Fair play to Murray. He's come back strong after a rough few seasons.

Commiserations to family of the lad who passed away. Awful.

People, there's a million and one hospitals around St Denis, if Lowe needed one he'd have gone.

If he did go to one, he'd have been back in no time.

    Relax.

Like the last time we played Scotland, several players out of position for most of the match. Glorified training session from half time, but not all guns and roses. The Scottish tries were the result of some very poor defending and the fluidity and precision that we scored from was missing for periods of the game. Particularly pleased with the defensive performance of the first quarter though, Scotland couldn't come back from that. As many of us have pointed out, relying exclusively on Russell is a big part of their downfall.

You can break it down into 10 minute segments and see who won each one if you like. But it's who wins over the full 80 minutes is the way they decide who wins the game.

England won the second half in Newlands in 1995, but who remembers that only anoraks like myself. The game v Scotland was over at 26 nil. They were beaten back home ta think again.

I love when mouthy teams trying to talk themselves up get shown up.

    Injuries are obviously a worry.

The song choice was a popular song by an Irish band that is generally considered a good song. You can disagree and whatever but no one was thinking of the political meaning and it is going over well in the stadium.

Anyone complaining about how Ireland lost the 2nd half is working overtime to force a negative. We had out of position players on the wings and the game was over. When replacements came on it was obvious they were not there for a boost but to protect key players.

Very clinical in attack and great defense. Obviously the key will be repeating that.

Ringrose was brilliant in attack, he did missed 7 of his 13 tackles though. And not all of them were out on the wing either when he was out of position. It's a bit of a glaring thing to me with him that he regularly misses tackles but it never seems to generate much comment at all bar "he's a shooter so it's fine".

But he did have an excellent game outside that, don't get me wrong, line breaks, passes, link play. With Henshaws struggles at the moment he's a very important player for us.

On Ringrose missing tackles I wonder how many of those result in a genuine advantage for the opposition as opposed to a missed tackle that succeeds in stifling an attack. Shooting doesn’t always result in a tackle but it sends ball carriers back inside and/or closes off an outside pass. Noticeable for me that he continued to defend at 13 a lot after he moved to the wing.

and Zombie…wouldn’t be an issue if it weren’t for the absurd moral panic and bullying that resulted from the womens soccer team’s rendition of Celtic Symphony and the rebirth of the Wolf Tones.

Delighted to see the win Ireland got.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,220 ✭✭✭kowloonkev

What is up with the rugby world rankings btw? Ireland have been top for well over a year, have won every game in the meantime and are always one defeat away from being replaced. Meanwhile all other teams seem to have lost games during that period. Seems a bizarre algorithm to me.

Do you know how stupid you sound saying lost the second half.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,538 ✭✭✭lawrencesummers

One aspect of our defence thats interesting is the turnover threat.

From memory Doris, Porter, jgp, beirne, Lowe and Porter successfully jackald the ball. Doris had a few that were not given because the scots had advantage at the time but in the team players like POM and Aki are well versed at getting over the ball as well.

We have a defence that is as unpredictable as our attack, and i cant think of a team that has as many players who regularly poach the ball.

I'd say it is here to stay, in the future when you hear it, it will transport you to these halcyon days of Irish Rugby.

Above all though, it is catchy. When a song gets stuck in your head, in your head, zombie, zombie, zombie-ie-ie-ie...

Did Scotland not understand the memo?

Supposed to win by 21+, not lose by 21+.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,809 ✭✭✭Musicrules

Very predictable easy victory over Scotland. Got a lot of players off good and early. We're ready to destroy New Zealand!

    Its just a fuckling song.

Sing it if you want, dont if you dont.

JGP would of been on the wing regardless if JOB was on the bench.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,422 ✭✭✭Snooker Loopy

It doesn't work like that. A detached retina can be present even with full vision. There's an AFL player for Collingwood called Mason Cox who got a poke in the eye in the 2018 Grand Final, thought he had recovered but nine months later he discovered the retina had detached from that poke. He only discovered it, coincidentally, when he got a tear in the retina of his other eye in a clash in a game. You need a specialist to check whether there has been any damage. Retinal specialists are not in much supply on a Saturday night and I somehow doubt there was one on hand to the Irish team.

Morning all and what a morning. Anyone know is the full match anywhere (other than the abomination that is the Virgin Player)

Zombie and singing "up the 'RA" are literally opposites

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,538 ✭✭✭lawrencesummers

Two things that sum up this Irish team.

18/20 phases in the first half where our defence comprehensively soaked up everything they had and killed off the Scottish ambition and belief that they could win. When that period ended with nothing for them I knew the game was over, they had thrown their best at us and not gotten a yard.

Secondly, the scots at halftime decided to fight back, and if they couldnt do it with the ball they would do it physically. After all the pushing and shoving was settled down and the ref had yellow carded Ollie Smith we gave them the best response and marched down field to score another try. No cheap shot revenge, no getting dragged into their nonsense, just another great score. The cherry on top. Game over, subs on bigger fish to fry.

4 years ago in Japan Aki got an unnecessary red against Samoa and it put unnecessary pressure on the team and his 3 match ban was a huge loss. We are different now. Discipline is excellent.

There is a mentality to this team that is very very rare in sports a manic controlled mentality that is founded on calmness and confidence in what they are capable of, self assured players with complete trust in their teammates and tactics, the epitome of ice in the veins and fire in the belly. The level of cohesion and confidence is amazing and will take one hell of a team performance to beat it.

Best part of that was Russel being a gobby prick, to Peter O'Mahony, during the handbags (hiding behind 3 Scottish players of course)

We march down and score and O'Mahony catches his eye and puts his hand to his own ear basically saying "not so loud now are you"

I always loved shutting down opposition tossers, the lads who would take losing by fighting or throwing cheap shots, by just repeating the score. It drives guys like that mental
