I wanted to put in an update as I received a small bit of info. Vanilla have narrowed down the problem enough to escalate it through the lists as a major issue taking priority over others. We are hoping for a resolution very soon.

If I were ever needing to register again I think I’d have username Bad Gateway if it’s not already in use. My current one dated from around launch of Vanilla hosting.

Have to disagree. Even though it rotates portrait images to landscape, not having to use a third-party site to post images saves a load of time.

The only bit I miss about the old site is how you used to be able to click on any user profile and be able to see what their passions were based on their number of posts in each forum. Everybody was different.

The new site is a travesty, sorry. A couple of nice features like easier linking/media posting but overall feels like a social media site being tortured into providing forum functionality rather than an actual forum.

Also getting the "something went wrong" on desktop, and on Android it's this litany of errors:

The irony is that by doing so they've made it as unstable as they complained the old site was. Vanilla wasn't made to do what Boards.ie is/was.

Additionally, it's clear that Boards have no control over Vanilla when it comes to patching, changes, or outages, so when something goes wrong it catches them out as well. Not Mike's fault but all he can essentially do is log a ticket from what I've seen.

It was bad enough 2 weeks/months on, but we're 2 years on and we're still dealing with the same issues and problems.

Agreed, (couldn't agree earlier this morning because of various errors). Sure, dedicated image hosting is nice, but even that's screwed up and mishandles image rotation. There's a litany of other things wrong, that have all been mentioned over the last two years, and frankly I think we've all grown quite tired of it/gotten used to the current mess to bother complaining much more.

I think we all understood the site was haemorrhaging money and needed to shift backends, and that's fine, sad, but fine if it meant the site survived. I can't help but be wholly unimpressed with Vanilla as a discussion forum platform though, it just seemed, and continues to seem, a really bad fit for what we needed.
