Installing a thermostatic radiator valve

Hi, I have a radiator with a small leak at the valve. The valve just turns the radiator on or off, no control over the heat output. The central heating system has no room thermostat, the only adjustment is at the boiler.

So, while I'm fixing it I may as well upgrade the valve, but have some questions.

Is the linked product what I want to enable me to adjust the temperature of an individual radiator?

It comes with a second part, I assume that's the locksheild? What does that do, and do I need to install that or can I leave the other side of the radiator as is with the old part?

The one I've linked if the cheapest on the site, is there any point in going for a more expensive one?

Personally I'd go for Danfoss TRVs. They are double the price of the one you linked but they are well worth the extra. Cheap ones tend to fail far quicker. The price difference might be worth talking about if you were replacing 7 to 10 valves but with one valve it's not a lot of extra cash

Thanks for that. I'd rather order locally as I plan to do the job tomorrow or Saturday. Screwfix have the Drayton brand which is owned by Schneider Electric, so that should be OK?

Do you know what the lockshield is?

the lock shield valve is used to adjust the flow of water through the rad so that all your rads heat up at same rate

Thanks, that makes sense. So I assume I can leave the original one there, assuming it was setup OK during the central heating installation?
