Always a fun game to watch.

VAR could be replaced by a coin toss and it'd be probably more accurate than it currently is.

Amazing how awfully it is used.

    Nketiah should be off.

    Horrible challenge.

Did I see Havertz come on at ht?

    Haven't seen him since.

Chelsea need to spend another billion

Romero gets a yellow for grabbing a player by the throat. Where's the consistency?

Howe complaining the turnaround from the CL isn’t what it could have been.

He had the earliest game on Tuesday to the late game on a Sunday!

He took 100% the exact same penalty as Saka. Goalkeepers are making it easy for them.

Bring back Packie Bonnar - he just dived whatever way the ball went and hoped to save a badly taken spotter, as he did!

    He's a chancer.

He also all but blamed his team's loss to Liverpool on Liverpool not going down to 9.

He also thinks they are unfairly cast as timewasters.

There is ALWAYS an excuse with him.

    Sheffield United are pathetic

    That's a stonewall penalty ffs.

First sacking of the season incoming?

Wasn't there talk a week or so ago about Chris Wilder lined up for a comeback, four years after he lost the job.

Ben white didn't handle it, Stonewall penalty. You can't block a shot two yards from goal with your hand out, this is basic stuff.

Every manager does the same thing. Name me a single manager that doesn’t provide excuses when things don’t go their way?

    I think he’s a very good manager.

Flicking through the stations and MOTD is on

Still hard to see how Nketiah wasn't red carded, either by the ref or on VAR review

This.......this coming from the Ref/PL setup that initially thought Mac Allister's against Bournemouth was justified on the day, but also with VAR reviewing it at the time.

The very definition of a red. Surprised more wasn't made of it.

Edit - BBC just talking about it now. Given is right, for once. Probably the 'most red card' of the season so far. Baffling.

That was novel by Heckingbottom/Sheffield. At about 3-0 down he seemingly decided fcuk defending we are crap at that so just keep bombing forward.

He is very good. But IMO he is the worst for excuses.

Maybe it's because a lot of them come after losses to the team i support (Liverpool), but he's a moan.

I accept all managers to it to some extent, but Howe has a real knack for finding reasons his team gers screwed.

Howe is a very good manager. Did very well at Bournemouth and is doing well at Newcastle.

But something about him rubs me the wrong way. I think it’s how dispassionate he tries to be about football.

Trying to take emotion out of the game is one of the factors in the loss to Liverpool imo, and how he was speaking on the eve of Newcastle playing Milan in the San Siro(Never been to a CL game before, I’ve always been too busy working, don’t think there’s any value in the players having a walk round the stadium, it’s just a pitch like any other) sounded almost like he actually doesn’t like football.

I think he’s a good tactician and he’s good at identifying players abilities, but if he’s going to try and ignore the emotional side of the game then he’ll never be top level.

There's something broken badly with the system, how a ref and then VAR after review still deemed McAllister's tackle as red earlier in the season. But Nketiahs tackle a yellow makes absolutely no sense. It ticked every box, late, high, absolutely no control as he lunged, it was a certain leg breaker only Vicario just barely got his leg lifted at the last millisecond.

Yeah. They got the Chelsea one right after the ref missed it. Some weird ones yesterday. Newcastle didn't get the most blatant peno either

My guess 9n the Newcastle one is because there was so much debate over Gordon diving for the penalty the previous week.

Yeah, don't understand how it wasn't a red for that. So dangerous, and Vicario was very lucky.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 237 ✭✭DAngelo Bailey

Gordon did what any other player would have done for that Peno and while I agree all the discussion over it certainly didn't help him with the initial refereeing decision it beggars belief that VAR could look at that not send the ref to the monitor.

I think Newcastle can’t have any complaints about VAR yesterday, that Gordon hand ball was a shocking call.

Also, great to see Rodri see red. Since the start of last season, and prior to the game on Saturday, he has 59 fouls and 8 yellow card. 7.4 fouls per yellow.

Everton are releasing a limited edition kit. I like the idea of it but the narrow stripes and all the colours are actually hurting my eyes. A thicker stripe would have been better.
