Well yeah, they don't give a **** about women - they're anti trans.

I have objections myself regarding sport and prisons and stupid language that won't include the word "woman" (idiots say that that makes me anti trans but they just don't consider women's perspective - I couldn't care less if a person is trans) but I've nothing to do with those pricks.

I see the "protect children" lot are now pretending it's ok for a grown-ass man or woman to have sexual relations with a 16-year-old.

Generally news media organisations don't do three year long investigations on Dave from down the Dog And Duck. I'm sure you can understand the reasons why. Or maybe you can't.

Your primary response is to look for imagined bad motive. A conspiracy against the REAL victim Russell Brand, in other words, rather than dealing with what multiple women are telling you Russell Brand is.

As somebody once said, one of the greatest tricks of the totalitarian elites of the 1920s and 1930s was to twist any statement of fact into a question of motive.

The programme was not announced with fanfare. Most people only came to know it would be broadcast because Russell Brand himself announced it.

It's odd. A decade ago, I'd have been very sceptical about ideas like rape culture and toxic masculinity. Now, they seem to be everywhere.

The “motives” of the programme makers are something secondary in my view- Shirley the key information within that programme are the statements descriptions and stories, which if true are shocking.

I don’t know how or why the programme got funding but from the producers explanation, it appears that both CH4 and The (Sunday) Times we’re struggling to get places with their individual investigations so pooled resources.

Complaints were made to Brands representative company 4 years ago which apparently triggered the investigation in the first place, is what I’ve deduced but I could be mistaken on that.

Just like that Michael Jackson documentary a few years ago, the statements from these alleged victims are just one side of a story. From a public perspective, some will believe them and others will shout conspiracy or what not- that’s why I’m not a fan of such programmes as it doesn’t leave either side with satisfaction- and if the victims are indeed telling the whole truth, they could be greatly damaged in any backlash from his “fans” and “followers” , even without them being named publicly.

What “multiple motives” are you referring to?

    Posie Parker openly courts Nazis.

Far right American propagandist Andy Ngo was all over the anti-trans demonstration in Dublin on Saturday.

Organiser Roisin Michaux was openly courting the far right to attend.

Good to see it was a total damp squib.

It's cult of personality in a social media age unfortunately. You get conspiracy theorists, Putin Supporters etc who will flock around Brand etc. Then you've got there people who would probably defend Weinstein and every other rapist.

One concern I have right huge social media profiles is that it's increasingly likely that they end up in jury pools.

Surely it is important to expose someone of their ilk precisely because of their influence and fame? Their presence and profile makes it easier to meet people.

It has also been alleged that Brand used his position and influence to pursue women so surely its in the public interest that some encounters which may not have been consensual are revealed.

Brand was always a bit of a nobody though. He's a weird one to have a cult around him but given that he's already got a following of defenders here after Dispatches then I'm clearly in the wrong.

No it isn't what life is like for young GIRLS. The overwhelming majority of men in their early 30s don't try it on with 16-year-old girls, because they're children. The age of consent, morally, is for 16-year-olds having relations with other 16-year-olds, or those close in age.

And it's not "EZ PZ" or "more fun". And the "boys don't get to have that, it's alien to you" just shows where your attitude is really coming from. You have yourselves convinced that every girl or woman, ever, gets to be with any man she fancies. Utter fantasy.

Virtually all parents would absolutely not tolerate their 16-year-old being in a relationship with someone twice their age. At 16, the brain is years from being fully developed. Parents absolutely can control who she goes out with, because she's a child and it's their house.

Channel 4 and/or whatever production company made this Dispatches documentary will have a team of lawyers at standby. It's not some tabloid journalism we're talking about.

A lot of cranks and misfits with anti-social tendencies are drawn towards conspiracy theorists and right wing / far right politics. The ideology becomes far more important than issues such as personal morality.

Conspiracy theory crowd plus the alt right seem to be his fanbase these days. Plus then the hard done men crowd.

I've yet to encounter somebody defending Weinstein. He was in a position of very high influence yet most people had probably never heard of him before all the allegations about him came out, so in one sense he was a nobody. He wasn't a celebrity with a cult for a following. Johnny Depp was. Trump is. Brand is. Cristiano Ronaldo is. So would be Musk, McGregor, Rogan, Carlson, Peterson if they were in trouble.

All this defence of alleged rapists or wife beaters or whatever by right wing/celebrity cultists happens on a "who you are" basis.

Iirc, there was a few users on here that defended Weinstein.

It also gives the “appearance” of mass support for the individual in question, given the internets global reach. In reality, it’s just a few people relatively speaking shouting very loudly in certain forums.

So, If you don’t participate in Twitter/X or these conspiracy forums, you’re left with just the ordinary public and your own close associates to influence how you might think and who’s views are more likely going to differ greatly from this small group of fanatics.

Also, the conspiracy theorist in them totally buys into the idea that Brand is being 'framed' or 'stitched up'. It's practically their default setting....something bad is happening to one of their own, therefore the establishment is out to get them, no other explanation.

I think it's no coincidence that most of the prominent far right lads in Ireland are under 5'5 in height. Small man syndrome bigtime.

What seemed especially disturbing about the relationship with the 16-year-old was him getting really excited when he found out she was a virgin and referring to her as 'the child'.

Yes, it was legal, but it's a very creepy experience for someone's first time.

A 31-year-old with a wealth more experience in sex and relationships should bear that in mind. I do find relationships of that type uncomfortable, regardless of the legality, but if I could see that the elder party was treating the other like an adult then I could accept it. When the elder party seems to be living out some fetish fantasy, its creepy. Again, it may be legal but it doesn't mean it's morally right. Affairs are legal, too.

EDIT: It's also interesting to read Brand's comments about how he was promiscuous and everything was consensual and compare that with how Jimmy Savile frequently spoke in public about his romantic life. There was a book on him, it might also have been called In Plain Sight, which suggested that Savile used this approach as a way to protect himself from trouble when stories might come out further down the line and also as a way of making the public complicit to an extent, i.e. he was 'open' about his many sexual relationships and the public shouldn't be surprised. I can't say that Brand is on Savile's level and, for now, we only have allegations but it is interesting to compare Savile's approach when he was alive to how Brand came out the other day and tried to get ahead of the story.

The title of the documentary is a not so subtle reference to Saville.

The amount of high profile morons being devil's advocate for, or even outright defending, Brand when they'd break their keyboards repeatedly calling him a groomer if they didn't like his views... they're a hypocritical, fickle disgrace.

Reminds me of a divorce case in the 1980s where a woman claimed that the husband forced her to perform oral sex.

The judge asked "have you no teeth madam?"

Is it just me or does it seem that show business is full of these predator types? We've had Jimmy Saville, Gary Glitter, Weinstein and a few others and I am sure that is only the tip of the iceberg. Is there something that attracts them or are they corrupted by the fame and people fanning over them?

    Classy.

Would you say that to your 16 year old daughter if she was put in the same position?
