Already locked in the 38% on Dual fuel with BGE could not get them to budge on moving to 40+, but also have been chasing BGE for my dad on a single electrical Mc01. Online offered 33% same as last year.

The call from loyalty (they called me in error) said they are not offering single fuel discounts greater than 33%. I have read here of people doing better on single fuel.

I have 3 weeks to see if something changes

Yeah but it doesn't let you enter your usage. I'd like something with finer details for better comparison and am working on it.

It's fixed like mortgage interest. It's only fixed for those who have already signed a contract. They can change their fixed rate for new customers. But I haven't seen any indication that they are going to in this cut.

That free day isn't a discount just for you, it's one of their smart plans. It's not free, because you pay for it through higher unit rates the rest of the time (compared to their other smart plans). Whether it's worth it depends on your usage, but remember that if you go with a smart plan, you can't ever revert to a non-smart plan in the future.

As per discounts not being available to all, it's nothing new, it used to be "new customers only", BGE does it the other way around this time, that's all.

There is a regulation requirement to inform the CRU. Its just to stop a company jacking the prices from 30c per unit to 300c a unit and not giving people time to switch supplier. The CRU in effect can't block it.

Can someone confirm whether I will receive this 30% reduction? My email confirmation with Flogas seems to suggest that my percentage reduction is fixed, but the unit price is not.

Do you have your contract at hand?

The message you're showing is surprising, I'm pretty sure the BWG offers were described as fixed rates, not fixed discount.

Energy prices in Ireland are incredibly difficult to compare. The headline figures of 10% off, 20% off etc mean absolutely nothing. Smart meters with TOU tariffs have made it even more complex.

I've been tracking old and new price rates for smart electric and gas in Excel so I think I just about have a handle on it, and for our usage I think the new Energia plan is the one to go for. My SSE 1yr deal expired about 2 weeks ago so we're on a crazy high rate in the meanwhile.

I assume that signing up today for the Energia Smart Data Duel Fuel 1yr offer means you will also get their announced price discount in October? or is there some sneakiness around that too where it only applies to existing customers or those out of contract etc?

    The internet isn’t for everyone

Likely a mistake on their part. You "shouldn't" receive the discount as BWG is fixed rate but worth kicking up a fuss in November.

My email does not state that. It says the PSO and standing charge are subject to change.

You can enter total usage & the percentage (roughly in Bonkers) of night usage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,641 ✭✭✭GarIT

I misspoke slightly. It doesn't allow you to enter your day/night/peak usage for each time period. Making it a guessing game for the non 24h plans

I see someone else said you can. I checked twice before and didn't see the option, just a section saying that it took your annual usage and split it using the average ratio. Can't check right now

I presume I won't get the Flogas reduction in November. I signed up for the 30 c day and 13 c night deal (ex vat) during the summer.

Like yourself we're just out of contract with SSE for electricity only. With an activated smart meter (thanks to Electric Ireland!) it's been a bit of a minefield and my spreadsheet is being constantly updated at the moment. However, Energia seem to be cheapest for smart meters and are giving the option of getting away from time of use tariffs. As far as I'm concerned their new 20% reduction is applicable to all customers.

The Reduced Flogas rates (after 30% taken off from November)are on their website now, prices are a total joke

Does anyone know if you can change from the time of use tariff when your contract is up thanks .smart meter is good but not choice of tariff

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 65 ✭✭fedorafennec

Once you are on a smart tariff, you will have to stay on smart tariffs. The suppliers technically could still offer their 24 hour tariffs to smart billing customers but most don't. EI and energia are the only ones I'm aware of doing that.

I got a Smart meter and decided to switch to time of use based on a letter that came with the bill. I was with the provider for a few months at the time. Then I was talking to a few people who told me that time of use was actually more expensive. I emailed them on the 13th day and asked to change my mind. I had already been locked into a new contract. Now feeling a bit overwhelmed by all this. Wondering if there's anything I can do. I thought the cool down time was fourteen days and I was within that. All done by email. Very difficult to cummunicate with them.

There is a 14 days cooling off period in the context of signing up a new contract (same or new supplier). But is there a cooling off period as far as changing your MCC from non-smart to ToU is concerned? As we know, once it's done you can't go back, but it's actually a good question - I've never heard of a cooling off period related to that, but haven't researched it either.

Mother of god they're dreadful, how can they give me 30c before the price drop and justify that 24hr rate, me thinks I'll be long departed before my contract ends...

I signed up to flogas Community plan the 29.99c per unit offer on the 14th Aug

Today I got confirmation of being accepted

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,641 ✭✭✭GarIT

You can't switch back but don't worry too much about it. At the moment the smart plans can be cheaper depending on your usage and the 24hour plans are being banned around 2025 anyway so you'd only have another year or so on the 24hr either way

It's typically 5-10% more expensive between 8am-11pm and then around 25-50% cheaper from 11pm-8am so it depends on when you use electricity really

    And 90% cheaper from 2AM till 5AM 😎

That's when I will only be buying electricity for the next 2 years...

MCC, Tou, time of use can someone please explain what all these terms mean. Surely im not the only one. And referring to the 2am to 5am deal, for most people its dead of night, i sure wouldnt want any electrical appliances come on when im asleep.

24hr plans are being banned in 2025? That's the first I've heard of this. What if you're on non smart meter?

Had a quick look on Pinergy's site, couldn't find the answer I was looking for, but I'm sure you know...

Is there a monthly or bi-monthly limit to the night time (3 hour) usage before the price goes up?

    What's their FIT rate?

I'm out of contract, still with Energia, but reckon Pinergy is my best option now. Have EV, PV panels (6kw inverter + 9.6kwh house battery).

I refused a smart meter over a year ago and went to d/n meter.

Am I best now to order a smart meter from energia and jump ship to Pinergy once installed?

Time of use divides the day into sections. 8.00 to 23.00 is daytime.23.00 to 8.00 is night rate.17.00 to 19.00 is the most expensive time to use electricity. Three different rates. And when my contract expires apparently I won't be able to avail of Bonkers as I've always done .
