Changing Teams

I work in a company where's the some internal power struggles (like most I guess).

Thankfully while it has never really affected me, I have noticed that some other people have been moved around in the company without their desire. I won't say they were moved against their will. But they were surprised and disappointed.

It leaves me wondering if how that works in terms of employment law. I'd have thought employees couldn't be shuffled around against their will?

If the same thing happened me down the line, what are the options? Do you need to sign a new contract to change teams? I guess there can be soft threats in terms that your career is over here unless you move etc.

It would depends on the terms of you contract, what role you are in and what role you are moving to so it's difficult to provide a detailed response. Basically if a transfer doesn't breach a person e.ployment contract they can't refuse to move. So a person couldn't refuse to move from Sales Team A to Sales Team B. If a person was being asked to move from Sales Team A to IT Software Team A they most likely could refuse, but again that would ultimately depend on what is stated in their contract.

We moved people around teams every five to seven years. Procurement to collection, payroll to budget control etc. It builds great expertise and makes people aware of how units interact. Those gaining promotion are often those with the wider experience of the entire company operations. People sometimes baulk at the idea but very soon settle in to the new team.
