Waited 4 weeks for a rejection, at least it's finally done with I guess.

Also just received a rejection email, upset but sure look. Best of luck everyone

Sorry to hear that lads. I got rejected after the 16pf in 2021 reapplied and got further this time. I still might get turned down but I suppose what I'm trying to say is give it another go if you get the opportunity you will go straight back into where you failed you won't need to resit the assessments

Thanks for the encouragement , I got turned down on both the apprenticeship and now this so fairly bummed but yea have to move on and maybe try the next time. good luck to those still in it

Do you not have to go trough everything again if you reapply

If you passed your original tests in the assessment centre but failed on the 16pf interview you go straight back into the interview. That was the case with Me

I love your optimism and even though I felt my interview went as good as it could id still be nervous of being unsuccessful. But Im not sure if many people on this site failed before at the line manager stage so I hope your correct

I can’t imagine many failing at the line manager stage? We’ve been told already we’ve reached the standard after the assessments etc so would there be much point in failing someone at this late stage only for them to apply again and go directly through to the medical and line manager interview again? Hopefully at this stage it’s just a case of waiting on the panel, maybe those who get on the best are picked first etc ..

Hopefully. As far as I know the next step will be them looking for references by email and then you can be fairly confident your in but if you don't get requests for references it's not a good sign. Other people in this group who have got through have a better idea than me but that's just what I gather from old posts

I lost out at the second assessment stage was on holidays and didn’t prepare for it , fail to prepare , prepare to fail

Nothing yet if I do though I will let you know

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 428 ✭✭Designator

Nothing yet either, did it last Wednesday. Can’t imagine there will be many rejections anyway so hopefully we all get progressed on . They said within the next two to three weeks I’d hear from them

Got offered the train driver job but turned it down as it seems the pay is all inclusive of over time, shift pay, allowances etc. So the basic is alls your getting it seems.

Was that in this current recruitment drive you wede offered or in the past

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 246 ✭✭sudocremegg

Last years recruitment. Technically I still might be on the panel but I'm not sure. Shame the pay is so poor tbh, I was hoping ya could make much more.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 428 ✭✭Designator

So can you tell us what exactly the pay structure is? I’ve heard 48k during training and 51k rising to about 70k when you’re full time, what’s wrong with that?

Best of luck with the medical today. Let me know if you pass and what got done. 🤞🤞🤞

That's not correct. Maybe you misunderstood the HR person when it was explained?

Basic pay does cover the shift work. Overtime is extra, but at the same rate of pay. Allowances are extra too.

Sounds like he/she just isn’t used to working irregular or unsociable hours , everyone knows it ain’t a 9-5 like

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,448 ✭✭✭Citizen Six

Just a pity to turn it down based on incorrect information about pay. Shift work isn't for everyone, but you know what to expect when you apply for the job.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 246 ✭✭sudocremegg

I'm very used to shiftwork more than you can imagine, I viewed the driver job as an easier role for me in terms of hours and conditions compared to my current role.

It's just it seemed that as a pay point 1 applicant (after training) I wouldn't be earning more than 70k gross per year, I know that the initial basic is around 48k (don't remember the exact number) but I was hoping that I could double that once qualified and out, if I recall correctly HR informed me most of the pay is consolidated. The lack of time + x for OT was off putting, and they were very reluctant to give out information about allowance, shift pay, subsistence, etc.

I think I'm just at a stage in my life where I value my labour and don't want a pay cut.

They contacted me twice about it and both times I deferred but haven't heard from them in over 8 months so I presume they booted me off the panel which is good for other applicants who got in ahead of me.

Thanks :) it went well. Just hearing & sight test. Weight, blood test. Just waiting now to hear back. Let me know how it goes for you friend 🙂

Honestly if you thought that you’d be earning close to 100k as your first point on the pay scale as a loco driver then I really don’t know why you went through the entire selection process. I don’t know where you ever got the idea that the pay would be that high, it’s good money but expecting the amount that you were was a bit ridiculous. Should have done your research

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 246 ✭✭sudocremegg

I don't think it's unrealistic to expect to be able to make more money when the basic pay is what it is. Many jobs with similar conditions will afford that opportunity with all the things I mentioned.

I'd be interested to hear what a train driver actually grosses per year, something which isn't so easy to research.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 428 ✭✭Designator

It baffles me that you actually went through such a long and arduous selection process without properly researching the ballpark salary or conditions and not knowing that the CIE divisions almost all have gotten rid of overtime rates and shift allowances etc with years in order to give a basic pay package to all drivers which evens the playing field as such.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 471 ✭✭Rootsblower

I can tell you it’s not anywhere in the ball park of 100k.

At the current top rate of pay if you worked 1 rest day every week minus the weeks on holidays you’d earn 70k. Irish rail does not guarantee overtime every week in fact their stated aim is to eliminate it completely.

i can’t understand where you got the idea that 100k is even possible given the salary that was advertised to the public.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 246 ✭✭sudocremegg

I knew the ballpark basic salary, I also knew there was extras but I didnt realise it was so poor. It's really not common knowledge that CIE got rid of OT rates and shift allowances etc, that is not stated anywhere or discussed anywhere.

Apologies I didn't think close to 100k, that's a bit farfetched but I was hoping I could make up 60-70k at the lower end of the payscale.

100k is possible in my current role with a basic of 50k. All in all I do think the pay is poor if its all consolidated like that, shame that was agree'd to.

I'm sure there's some high flying ceo job you can apply for! Why on earth did you go for it at all if you can get that money where you are anyway??
