Not sure but 2FM were there all weekend so possibly they took the spot?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,894 ✭✭✭Brock Turnpike

Caught some of Dave's show today... Not great. Sounds like they really tried very hard to make it "Not Dermot and Dave". There was one thing in the quiz where they had a "bonus round" voiceover piece which sounded like something from a sketch show.

Maybe, but I didn't notice any 2FM tent or stage anywhere.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,264 ✭✭✭TaurenDruid

They've mentioned being there (at EP) on a couple of the shows, but not as much as they would have mentioned it in previous years - didn't they do a couple of live broadcasts from there, previously? But yeah, lots of talk about it in advance, lots of competitions for tickets, mention of presenters being there, and so on, but the whole Today FM tent doesn't seem to have been a thing.

judging from most of the "personalities" online, like Laura Fox who would attend the opening of a crisp packet, were there

Unfortunately this radio station is on in my workplace all day. Ian Dempsey is bearable, Dave Moore is horrendous, Pamela Joyce is worse, Ray Foley comes across as an annoying f##k. And yer wan that reads the " nooze'" in the morning needs to stop that sharp and very audible intake of breath before every sentence. ( When you hear it, you most definitely can't unhear it) irritating is an understatement. Does my head in.

MEH yourself. An absolute nightmare listening to it. Cash machine mentioned every 5 minutes. Sh1te music, and I said Dempsey was bearable.

Not acceptable in my work environment unfortunately.

Sometimes I wonder if I’m listening to the same station as other people. I hear one cash machine mention, maybe two, every hour on the station but somehow others are hearing it every five minutes?

Are you serious, it's plugged ad nauseam. It's constantly being plugged.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,540 ✭✭✭Lost Ormond

What do you see as "constantly being plugged"

its mentioned top of the hour by presenter and then maybe once more it isnt up that much more

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,894 ✭✭✭Brock Turnpike

It's at least 3 times an hour it seems.

Dempsey's show (and I think he's a level above everyone else on the station) is just completely by the numbers now.

    Traffic/ News/ Sport

    Cash machine plug

Lady Gaga/ Robbie Williams/ Rhianna/ currently popular song

    Gift Grub

If the station is that terrible and repetitive for you, do yourself a favour and stop listening.

Good point, I had forgotten about that.

If you could advertise alcohol then Today FM could do well our of Dave's show. A Dave Moore drinking game based on how many utterances of unbelievable or legend happen. He's so painful to listen to, like an excited teenager at times, same as Foley.

Dempsey and Pamela Joyce I can listen to.

And before the usual thing of "well don't listen then" is said, it's at work so I don't have sole control of the dial.

The cash machine isn’t mentioned every five minutes though.

You can vent your frustrations without resorting to lies.

The amount might only be mentioned after the news but there's plenty of ad breaks that run a mention.

Bauer seem to be struggling to attract advertising, a hefty chunk of the ad breaks are dedicated to Bauer products, Go Breaks, Go Dating, Go Loud digital stations (Today FM rocks) and the "We're talking to you, businesses" as well as how the Cash Machine works.

    This too shall pass.

I listen to today FM alot, and while I have heard ads for Go Breaks, Go Dating, Go Lound and their Podcasts, I genuinely don't think I've ever heard an ad for the cash machine.

It's mentioned at the top of the hour, every hour (except during Matt Copper, he only gives it once during the 2.5 hours he's on the air) and then depending on the presenter, it may be mentioned once or twice in the hour, and usually, it's only mentioned outside of the top of the hour when it's a really large amount. Foley and Pamela Joyce probably do this more than anyone else, but I don't in anyway way think it detracts from their shows.

I honestly don't understand the moaning about it - it really strikes me as just giving out for the sake of it.

It's a couple of mins an hour, get over it.

You are dead wrong with that. On Today FM, the DJ spiel will begin just after the news, at least one ad for it probably around half past or quarter to and another mention from the DJ before the news.

This is the bare minimum template within the hour. There are times when they don't follow the template like for The Last Word or Block Rocking Beats or if it's very early or late in the day.

RedFM the other day decided to big up their "interview" with someone who won 50k, on top of their usual template.

Needless to say, I only regularly listen to Today FM now at opportune times for a bit of Block Rocking Beats or Last Word. Would have had it on a lot more previously.

You are wrong here, there is at least 1 ad around the half hour mark. Its absolutely ruining a reasonably popular radio station by continuing with this approach using the DJ`s as a sales tool for their cash machine. They (Bauer Media ) seem to have no plan for the content of any of their radio stations. Like the poster says above, its rinse and repeat, rinse and repeat. The DJ`s have no input anymore, they use playlists permanently relegating them to continuity announcers

    Sad................

Am absolutely more than happy to be proved wrong here, but as someone thinking back about what they heard on ads over the last weeks, I genuinely vaht remember a Cash machine ad. Whether thats me zoning out ads, or being away from the radio each time it was on, I don't know, but I really don't think of the cash machine as being plugged every 5 mins

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 923 ✭✭✭radiotrickster

All the Bauer stations do seem to run promo carts for the cash machine. I can’t understand why it would bother anyone so much but then someone here accused me of moaning for moanings sake because I don’t like how much Irish Louise Cantillon uses sometimes, so we all have our own thing!

Talked about at least 4/5 times per hour. D&D were the worst. Could be 5 or 6 minutes after the news alone. I've stopped listening to TodayFm because of it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,631 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

That Dave Moore show at 9am, spends the first 3 or 4 mins talking about the cash machine, without fail.

It’s 80-90 seconds. Not even half of three minutes.
