Do go safe vans detect your speed from only the back of the van or front aswel. As in can they detect My speed while traveling towards the front of the van?

They can’t detect your speed from the front of the van, but if you pass by them and are still speeding, then they can still catch you using the camera on their back as you travel away from them.

As far as I know your speed can be calculated only from the back.

At 90km/h you are on the 10% margin so you might just be ok.

It can still read your speed as you're driving away from it. The radar gun doesn't need you to he heading towards it.

Ive said it before and it makes me unpopular even in RL but I think they should be unmarked any old vans. That way a driver never knows and maybe, just maybe it might slow down those that think they're driving on the autobahn.

"Tax on working people"? How do speed vans know if the driver is unemployed or not?

Anyhow, this is a disgrace: does anyone know of a way to avoid having to pay this tax?

Road deaths on the (significant!) increase... it's been a particularly bad fortnight for it... and some are on here apparently discussing the fact that measures to enforce the law in a vehicle are unfair.

It seems indicative of where we are as a society. As others have said, one American tourist dies and we all talk about changes needing to be made, but several Irish people lose their lives and we're apparently ambivalent.

No offence meant to the O/P, we all make mistakes and you weren't glorifying or complaining!

But there's a thread in this somewhere about the weird driving culture we've now got. And maybe about the apparent extreme ineffectiveness of the RSA.

If the American tourist that you're referring to is Stephen Termini then (thankfully) he didn't even die. However, the reaction from the minister and AGS Commissioner was to stick armed gardai on the street. But as you say, people die on the roads and the reaction is to offer up thoughts and prayers
