Nope. Absolutely raging, sick of constantly checking. Think we're waiting longer than batch 1 now?

A bit of outsider advice for anyone applying (and it may not bother anyone in the least) seriously, and I mean serrrreiously consider it as has been mentioned the whole work, sleep, repeat thing.

16-20hr shifts occur every so often. Less rare, but still happen are 24hr+ shifts under pressure, no sleep or downtime.

Or less rare, in fact fairly regular are finishes at 7am, back in at 10am. On patrol at 5am and arrest someone, turns out they've a warrant? You've to be in court later that morning and execute it.

Meant to finish up and you come across a robbery in the final hour. Fella arrested, back to station with him. Follow the rigmarole etc and the law. You want to interview him. He avails of his right to a sleep. You're back in in morning to interview him/day you were meant to be off/drop the kid to school/special occasion.

Add to this then you may have worked 16hrs, or worked 12hrs and gotten 4hrs sleep before tackling another 12. You might be arresting someone for say...theft and be tied up. Your next call you attend is a perfectly normal, decent taxpayer berating you for how long you took and you've to grin and bear it.

The you go on twitter or rte or boards and the guards are a joke, useless, etc etc. While you feel wrecked, don't know what day it is and you're constantly in work.

Happened to my friend and housemate. He did 8years. Is now thankfully in the fire brigade, works less, no paperwork, no abuse from the public and is a happier person.

After speaking with him and witnessing first hand his comings and goings, I wouldn't advise my own family members to go into it.

Especially now with all that's in the news, be expected to be working like crazy, and be blamed and criticised by the general public while working crazy hours. You also can't talk back/react to that criticism because you'll be labelled a pr1ck.

Politicians won't get the blame. You will. My friend has given the life up after nearly ten years, and he's so happy he doesn't have to constantly defend himself. I almost feel obliged to on his behalf.

Do you think that area/station would have an impact on this? Would DMR be a lot busier compared to a large town out the country. I do realise that outside the DMR they would have less guards (obviously).

Thought you said you were worried you mixed up dates of past employment?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32 puntcuncher

Sorry yeah but that was just on the CV that you have to originally submit 😅

Don't think the results will be any time soon my the looks of it for batch 2. The waiting around and not being able to prepare is the worst.

I was informed that batch 3 have now been called for interview, if anybody here from batch 3 can confirm that, so hopefully batch 2 results should be released soon 🤞🏼 if I recall correctly I’m sure batch 1 results was released before batch 2 got called, the suspense is killing me 🫣

as this is an anonymous forum I have no fear of being honest.

I had a fetac qualification of FETAC level 5, but I put down on the forum that it was a Fetac leval 7. it was a genuine mistake (believe it or not)

after that, I failed to disclose an arrest that was deemed by the courts to be unlawful and I was found not guilty on all counts.

The arrest was as a result of being in the wrong place at the wrong time but I was caught in the net and my name went into the Pulse system .

I went to a former chief superintendent for coaching for the interview and he advised me NOT to put it on my Form B and that because it was 'non violent and non drug related' they wouldn't pay attention to it and that by declaring it it could cause delay on my vetting.

That was the worst advice I could have been given but I was more stupid myself not to declare any and all 'dealings' with AGS despite the outcome on my Form B

My advice is absolutely declare everything!!! if you're not sure, declare it. if you've already submitted your form, call the HR office and have a chat.

Everyone has a history good or bad and they understand that, they just want to hear you being honest and open about it

    Hello, folks.

I'm on batch 01 and will do my PCT on September 16th. Is anyone else on this day?

I have just received an e-mail about the drug test. I could not understand when they will collect the hair sample, is there anyone who can help me?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 43 SkyBoy69

Got results and passed thank god, now they are looking for an updated declaration page I don't understand?

How long did ye wait for the results?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 266 ✭✭Marty1476

im not sure about color blindness as they do test that in the medical. google Ishihara test, that's what you'll do on the day for color blindness

 Eyesight - good levels of vision (minimum distance vision of 6/18 on both eyes that can be corrected to 6/9 and 6/12 or better with glasses or contact lenses if necessary).

The above is from the garda website

My test is also on that date. I think the drug test is done on the same day down in the college if you pass the PCT.

Has anybody else who was successful with results told the declaration form the submitted in advance of the interview was deemed incomplete? I had all relevant documents scanned and submitted and don’t know why it would have been deemed incomplete.

Can anybody tell me, does your medical come first or is it your fitness test first, I'm batch two and I got my results

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 180 ✭✭RarePhilosophy

The fitness test (PCT) comes first. You need a form signed from your GP before the fitness test, stating that you are healthy enough to take the test (e.g. don’t have a dangerous heart condition ).

I believe you are then send for a proper occupational health medical if you pass the fitness test at a later date.

Thanks so much, and when do you think the fitness test for bath 2 will be, I seen a post about batch one having theirs on September, will mine be later than that then?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 180 ✭✭RarePhilosophy

My interview and PCT are spaced apart by a little over 2 months. Obviously it could change for the next batch. We were give a bit over 6 weeks notice for the PCT.
