We have elected a terrible set of TDs. The south got completely screwed when the North and South combined. Cahill, Kelly and Lowry are all in the North and don't care about anything south of Thurles. They would burn Clonmel to the ground if they thought it would get something extra for Nenagh. Mattie is vocal but very very niche. He only cares about the 20% of the electorate he needs to get elected. Old, Catholic, rural. And Martin Browne is an embarrassment. Any time I see him he seems "tired and emotional". It was said that Sinn Fein could run a dead donkey in the last election and they would get in on the first count. Browne certainly proved that. Surely Sinn Fein can't seriously contemplate running him again. If they do they must surely be in danger of losing the seat which would leave Tipperary as the probably only county in the next Dail without a government TD and that won't do us any favours.

But we can only vote for who is on the ballot paper. The handful that were rejected were probably even less inspiring. Didn't Fine Gael parachute the sister of some minister onto the Tipperary ballot paper even though she had barely set foot in the county.

Clonmel must mobilise and elect a Clonmel TD.

We didn’t get screwed, we voted for the same old same old - people are like sheep, this is what I did twenty years ago, this is who I still vote for.

We need to tell our current useless stock not to take us for granted - don’t vote for the numpties, any of them, if turn out is 10% and all for Sinn Fein then they would have to sit up and listen and make changes.

Don’t vote for them just cos they are on the ballot. A protest vote, will speak volumes to the incoming government cos if you vote for the same, nothing will change

Dean McGrath SF seems very good and active/vocal. I wouldn't be surprised if he was their next runner.

Is he the chap in Carrick? A lovely man, very focussed on local issues

He's running in the locals in Clonmel next year so they're probably going to see how he gets on there. It's up to the electorate not SF

I think he's Cahir but could be wrong.

But won't SF have to put him up for election.

Honestly I've never heard of him, but that's probably more about me that him, as I'm no way into politics at all.

Dean McGrath is a young man in Clonmel, I saw him at a recent business meeting. The man I first mentioned is Davy ? From Carrick, nice man too - for balance, I’m not enamoured with Martin Brown at all.

And though we vote for them, the parties / individuals have to nominate themselves first, before we choose.

I hope we get a different choice in the next election but I’m not holding my breath

Never heard of him. Had a google search and found his social media page. Lot of stuff about commemoration of IRA terrorists etc and the usual populist stuff around pride etc. not sure what he’s bringing to the table in terms of a strong voice for clonmel. Thanks but No thanks.

Anybody else seen the state of market place now the boarded up shops are covered with graffiti the place looks even more pitiful now .

He'll still top the poll. Sinn Fein have convinced a lot of people that they have the solution to everything you ever wanted and better still it will all be free because someone else will pay for it all.

Took them almost 2 months to sort it. Shocking.

Reports that a brother was driving his sister and a group of friends were being driver to meet a bus. Very tragic news.

Very sad news on what should have been a great night and it been just weeks since that terrible accident in Monaghan.

    He’s Clonmel/Cahir/Ardfinnan

Has about 18 screws loose in his head

Ok, so we are in agreement no to SF. So what is the alternative for Tipperary and Clonmel in particular???? There is nothing that I can see, we are doomed

I’m kinda hoping Mairin McGrath does well long-term.

Unfortunately though as an Independent she can probably only go so far. Would nearly like if she was with Soc Dems.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,246 ✭✭✭KanyeSouthEast

Active vocal in what? Commemorating the IRA highlighting Palestine and pride. He can F off with that we need someone to focus on clonmel who will be listened too and be a positive for the town not another anti everything crazy that has the town the way it is.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,796 ✭✭✭It wasnt me123

So can you recommend someone to us? All you are doing is saying no to SF - how about you say yes to someone, anyone else. I’m genuinely interested in who on earth we can vote for next year - we are bereft of suitable candidates.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,796 ✭✭✭It wasnt me123

Mairin McGrath is an excellent local councillor and will probably take over from Mattie when he hangs up his boots. She is well educated and articulate. I’d vote for her.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,937 ✭✭✭Ceepo

The way I see it is, we don't have the caliber of politician in the south. For anyone to make any sort of impression locally they will need to be at the very least in a junior ministry position if not a senior role. That or an independent like Lowery (with all his faults) who is willing to make a few deals to get what he wants. And while most of the country laughs at Tipperary voter's for voting Lowery back in, he certainly get things done in North Tipperary

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,024 ✭✭✭✭freshpopcorn

Such sad news RTE reporting that there are four fatalities.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,796 ✭✭✭It wasnt me123

I agree partially with you but we should never stoop to voting in criminals, Lowry shouldn’t even be on the ballot.

So what do we do? Are there any locals that could be drafted in? Most of our local councillors arent great either> lets not settle for a numptie, we should encourage local branches of political parties to promote new, improved would be politicians.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,713 ✭✭✭touts

She'll struggle to hold the seat when Mattie steps aside. Sinn Fein and People Before Profit will have targeted that as a protest seat and they will go all out to take it from her. Which is a pity because anytime I've come across her she strikes me as a decent person and intelligent politician.

Four young people, including a man in his 20s, his teen sister, and two other teen girls have died in a crash in Clonmel tonight. They were on the way to a Leaving Cert results celebration event.

    RIP
