So what are you so relieved it’s over?

It sounds like it had no impact on you really.

Woke women in BBC, '' they're not loser medals, they are winners, should be 2nd winners medals''

They're Runner Up Medals ffs, chill Ms Wokey McWokerson

Wow talk about being a sore loser, one of the players refusing to shake hands with the Spanish queen and her daughter.

So going by the chat this is like France almost winning the 2006 World Cup in spite of the manager.

Well you can re-emerge now, the nasty hype will be all gone shortly

The fact the Brits couldn't even send a B-list royal shows the level of disinterest they have in it. At least the Spaniards sent a queen . Lol

Oh yeah, I’m sure kneeling down for about a second was the losing of that game ffs 🙄

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,640 ✭✭✭Xander10

True, I won't have to read about the world class penalty save in that game anymore.

It's complete rubbish - it's saying that all women's sport is worthless, as women are not as strong or as fast as men.

(I notice it's a very popular opinion among right wing, Brexity types in the UK who even hate the England's women's team).

Yep, always irrespective of the sport, not just end of tournament but after big games. Usually good music choices to go with it too.

No one is saying it was necessarily the losing of the game, if you know anything about elite level sports, mental preparation before a game plays an important part. I’d wager most Managers and Coaches at any level, but particularly at the elite level prefer not to have their players distracted by having to perform some sort of meaningless gesture before the game. But hey, if you want to believe it didn’t make a difference, then good for you.😀

Didn't see much of the tournament, but that final was very enjoyable, had a bit of everything, Spains reserve team better than all the rest and deserving winners, now u17, u20 and senior world champions🏆🏆🏆

What was story with Spain captain. I thought it was the goal scorer number 19. But number 5 got presented the trophy.

was number 5 injured or suspended?

You seem very triggered by something so small and “meaningless” which will have had no material effect on performance. And your other point about “respecting the anthem”, Jesus wept, I’d say you’re spending too much time watching trump videos.

Overall the tournament standard wasn't the worst. I knew little or nothing about womens football previously. It was better than the men's LOI standard that is dished out but I'm not sure that's saying much though.

The overall standard will improve as the money is pumped into it, no doubt.

Do you think the same when players sing the national anthem? Takes away their focus as well surely?

They obviously stood up to quick after and all got doses of the bends.

Great tournament. Fantastic advertisement for women's soccer. And the standard will only get better with increased funding and increased participation that will come off the back of this.

Not triggered at all my good friend, it was simply an observation that international teams that tend to engage in virtue signalling seem to lack real focus and don’t perform to their expected level, ie Germany going out of the World Cup last year in the group stages, England in the quarter finals, both were expected to do better.

As for the US women, if you don’t understand how having one half of the team respecting the national anthem and being proud to sing it and the other half disrespecting it would potentially affect both the teams chemistry and moral, then. It’s safe to say you know nothing about team sports.

Btw you are the one that introduced former President Trump into the conversation, now who’s triggered.😀

Comparing it to the men's game is a bit pointless anyway. The women are competing against their peers and these are the best teams that are there.

Argentina or Brazil would probably beat Wolves or Sheffield United 10-0 but that doesn't make the latter two automatically worthless or unwatchable.

Spain were the far better looking side, and deserved to win.

Spain are the winners! 🇪🇸 👍👍⚽️ 🏆 That means that I’ve won the Boards sweepstakes! 😁😁

    Now, where’s me prize?

Watched the match earlier - only one of three I actually watched on TV given the time difference and being on so very early. It was a good match and England played quite well but it was pretty clear that Spain were the better side.

And lads, for all your supposed disinterest in the 2023 Women’s World Cup - you sure did a phenomenal awful lot of moaning, whining and dissing here in this thread on the abilities of the ladies on the football pitch.

Oh lord here we go, bringing politics into sport yet again.

I hate to burst your bubble, but I live in the UK and have been watching the tournament since day one, I also tune into both GB News and Talk TV (those bastions of the right wing brexity types) and they have been nothing but supportive of the England team and their achievements thus far.

While a growing number of people are happy to support women’s professional soccer and wish them well , where it comes in for ridicule is when some bad faith actors start saying they should be paid the same as the men’s game, these individuals blindly refuse to see that the professional womens game is subsidised in the UK by the Premier league and until such time as they can generate a comparable revenue on their own steam, then talk of salaries equal to the mens game is preposterous.

As the US comedian Bill Burr outlines in one of his bit’s on the WNBA the reason you are not getting paid the same is because “you don’t sell any tickets”.
