Im on a activated smart meter mc12 . EI tricked. I contacted Waterpower to see if I could switch to them . But unfortunately I can't, they take activated smart meters at the moment. they are working on it but no date as yet.

I moved to Waterpower a couple of months back. I reckon the reason for requiring last 3 bills is so they can accurately estimate usage if a reading is not submitted. Readings must be submitted manually monthly. Billing is also monthy. I don't think it is too much trouble to submit a few bills electronically for the saving made.

As the above poster said + maybe to check you are paying the bills on time since they are a small company I doubt they want to take on a load of customers who have a habit of being in arrears.

Probably also to get an idea of how much units you are likely to need or use from them. Looks like more of a planning aid than simply collecting data for the sake of it.

Sorry if this is has been answered already but I can't find a clear answer in previous posts. Can I sign up to the Flogas community plan with MCC16 smart meter code? Assuming it would be the 24hr tariff I would be on?

has anyone got a dual fuel Community link for flogas? Scrolled back don’t see it so apologies if it’s posted already.

Waterpower cannot put you on the tracker if you have a smart meter (MCC12). Their billing system cannot generate bills for this configuration of meter , but they are testing a new software and hope to make the tracker available for smart meters as well in a couple of months.

As pointed out by someone else on this thread, it is slightly more complicated then just taking the monthly averages and dividing by 12. The majority of people will use more electricity in the winter months when it is dark (lighting, TV, just being home more in general). This is when prices are higher. The average and the adjusted average may differ significantly. For me, I use about 25% more electricity in the winter in my house (I run a dehumidifier at night to help with allergies aswell as an electric blanket both in bed and an equivalent on the couch. Only 90W but its adds up over 2 months to a few euro).

I prefer the security of the BWG (or Community Plan) with FloGas. I can budget accordingly and roughly know what my next electricity bill will be. If people are going to save on WaterPower, I think the savings will be quite modest but you're also exposed potentially much higher prices. Not really responding to you with this bit. Someone just asked why there was no discussion. That's my 2 cents.

    2 queries :)

Does the flogas offer allow you to pick a later transfer date? My electric Ireland deal ends in 6 weeks so just wondering does the flogas offer let you sign up in advance.

A smart meter was installed on my house in recent months but I haven't signed up for any smart rates. Can I sign up for flogas day/night offer with a smart meter?

    Thanks in advance!

Fair point of caution on using a simple average. Depending on how cold a year will be, I'm using as much as 25%-33% of the year's electricity in January and February. If you have an immersion and electric heating, it really shows.

However, the assumption that units are more expensive in winter is incorrect. I think it's a general idea that people have, and comes from a confusion with higher bills indeed, caused by higher usage.

If you're talking of the WP tracker specifically, a quick look to the limited data points we have - Jan/Feb '22 and Jan/Feb '23 - shows an average unit price of 24.47c (24Hrs ex-VAT), lower than their 18-month average of 27.22c. The spike was in Aug/Sep '22, in summer. If you take only Jan/Feb '23 ('22 was before the war, in fairness), it's still 29.81c, higher than average, but not enough to make much of a difference.

You can opt to switch at the end of the 14 day cooling off period. That is the most in advance you can sign up, you cannot switch 6 weeks in advance.

Yes, you can sign up to the 24hr Community Plan with an unactivated smart meter.

You can do with with an equaliser/level pay plan already

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,984 ✭✭✭bren2001

Do WaterPower allow level pay? The rate is variable so you will be charged different prices for electricity at different points in the year.

Yeah, fair. I just went on my gut that electricity is more expensive in the winter: no real solar available, gas prices I would have expected to be higher. If that is not borne out in the number then taking the average year round probably just makes sense.

Just got this from Bord Gais. Looks like they are going to hold a gun to your head to switch to a smart meter...

    Screenshot_20230801_121122_Gmail.jpg

Does this mean that they will enable Day/Night settings on the smart meter or just effectively steal any excess I send back to the grid.

Is there anywhere on the flogas website that you can see your tariff in your account or do we have to wait for the first bill/call them?

I understand how our electricity market works, it's how it works that's the problem

With EI they are offering "Standard Free Saturday or Sunday unit price 20.00 c/kWh" this is for Saturday or Sunday 08:00 -23:00.

Does anybody know the numbers of what its unreasonably large usage would be?

    Frpm their terms and conditions.

" We may contact you if we think you’re using an unreasonably large amount of electricity on your free day(s). If we think you are using an excessive amount, we may take you off the tariff and move you to another tariff.

You must stick with a smart tariff, I don't think you can go back to MCC01. The whole shambles about an activated smart meter.

Keep an eye out on their site for a community smart plan. They had a BWG one and it was very good. Tried to find a link thr other day to a community smart plan but failed.

    What's BWG?

anyone advise me on our pinergy electricity plan, good or bad? we were left with this when we moved house at the start of July. we were going to cancel straight away as horror stories re price etc but now Im not so sure... our bill for month of July is €60.60 which actually doesnt seem too bad. hard to work exactly what were paying as youve to include a 'daily' flat fee from them which they told me was €1.11 but on alot of days over daily fee is about €2.10 which seems quite low considering. we'd use eclectic cooker, shower daily, maybe this is spot on for the time of year? any advice/opinions would be great, thanks

How are we supposed to know? What is the name of the Pinergy tariff? 24h/smart? How much per unit, standing charge, etc
