Today, Kay Tea, Joe wurking on his €51k 'TV projects' so to speak...

    • Horse Racing Ireland teaching de kids in schools about the horse riding, one listener was horrified.
    • Tyre blowout on the M1, rescue service charged €380 to change a tyre...more facts needed, was it her spare they used, was it a new tyre they provided that could be anything from €60 to €500 depending on brand and size.
    • High prices, people embarrassed that tourists are being charged lots in West Of Ireland, €9.50 for wine.

some of the tyres for these new electric cars are costing about €200 a tyre ,add on call out fee and labour . they also probably included the VAT on the price of the invoice. I don't like paying high prices, but that is the reality these days. You want someone to call out to your car and do the work, you pay. Else take the wheel off your self, get a lift and new tyre and change it yourself

I can't drive but I can change a tyre, and I have done a few times for people who were stuck or needed help.

380, for a callout, possibly on a weekend, really does not sound bad at all.

You need to supply the tyre for that too, most modern cars don’t have spares. That would include VAT, your indemnity inshurdance, the cost of running your ve-hickle, then Revenue takes its chunk from your earnings.

I assumed the roadside assistance supplied the tyre, so 200 for tyre, 180 to change it.

Put it like this, you're on the M1, get a flat, so, being wiley, you ring a taxi, ask him to swing by a garage and buy the right size tyre for you, then get him to drop out to where you are, tell him to leave the meter running, ask him to change it, give him 40 quid for doing it, and then pay what it says on the meter. I wouldn't expect much change out of 380 to be honest.

The lady had a blow-out which is quite different from a flat. Procedure for flat is to re inflate with your on-board kit supplied with motor, via the valve. A blow-out is rarer and quite frankly can be a killer. My faaader always put the fear of god into me re a possible blow-out. A friend of mine got one, car went out of control. If you are lucky to get the car under control without a collision, and over to a safer area in the hard shoulder, you definitely need a replacement, and it needs to be right spec, and supplied by someone expert in tyres and in working in hazardous conditions. I woundn’t begrudge such a person earning their money.

Galway Races start today, you could in theory question this topic coming on the Liveline today as possibly some sly marketing angle.
