The match went as I predicted, Dublin did the same as Derry and controlled the game, and then had the experience to do what Derry couldn't and see the game out.

A poor game though, I stand by my previous comments that Kerry are a poor team and if Dublin hadn't made so many handling errors they would have won that game pulling up.

The golden boy will probably get man of the match just for taking part, but this showed once again that he is nowhere near the second coming that the media desperately want him to be.

Fair play to Dessie Farrell, a lot of Dubs don't want him and yet there he is with 2 All Ireland victories. He should call it a day now I would suggest, go out at the top rather than get blamed for the inevitable transition Dublin are going to have to suffer through.

Been magnificent all year. Nailed on All Star. Bad second half today, but he will learn from it.

3 red card offenses in a game where there was hardly a bad tackle all game? You can't be serious.

Costello should have been given a yellow for his tackle but it wasn't on the throat. He gave him a belt in the stomach. Not nice but happens all the time.

Where were these two other mythical red cards that cost Kerry the game?

Please don't say McCarthy was one of them though. If he's booked for one of the earlier tackles, which were all fouls and nothing more, then he changes how he tackles for the rest of the game.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

So much for Kerry v Dublin providing the game of the season

Kerry threw that game away, same as they did in 2011 and 2019.

Id be a hurling man first, but I really enjoyed that game, more so than the hurling final. Ferocious tackling and brilliant defending.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,012 ✭✭✭robbiezero

Yep. Similar manner as well, giving away a terrible goal when in total control of the game. They needed that cushion for the last 5.

He froze and didn’t make any big calls against Dublin. Just allowed to foul as much as they want. Agree on the overturned clear 45 at the end.

Checking colour of jersey blue - decision in their favour.

Might as well just encourage lads to take steroids and make big hits and get away with it.

Dublin might have won it without the referee absolutely but made it a certainty with those decision.

Kerry lads blaming him for losing and the dubs booing him after winning - probably a sign he didn't favour anyone.

I thought he done well also, the costello one he didn't get complety right but it is hard to get them all in a game like that. I liked the gannon one, too much of that b*l*xology going on with doctors trying to set the narrative of an incident, fair play to him.

I wasn't sure about the double yellow but maybe he had noticed them previously. He was generally good. The dubs seemed to always come out the right side of questionable carry on in games in the past where refs were almost intimidated by the aura of the dublin machine - but that didn't happen today and he deserves credit for that.

I think clifford cost kerry late on. His insistence on taking on difficult shots when other guys were available was a continuous feature in the game. They took off Gedney when it was clifford that should have made way.

Best team won in the end.

I think whoever lost would have felt that some bit.

I don't think Kerry did enough to win it either. Did not score for 16 minutes in second half.

TBF conditions were absolutely atrocious but that being said was a relatively poor game. No doubt will be hyped up through.

Thought the Dubs would do it. They have stronger players on the bench and managed to get the hunger and desire back into the older lads again this year.

Kerry will be able again no doubt.

That's a pile of ungracious nonsense and a far cry from the attitude of Kerry people at the end of the game in Croke Park.

He made him look ordinary. If you'd never seen Clifford before you wouldn't believe the hype.

It wasnt an atrocious game, just average excitement.

First half was about to end 0-6 to 0-4? Save for a bit of magic from Clifford it was a very dour first half. Nearly switched off altogether.

2nd half was better, but far from the spectacle promised by some who proclaim both sides to be such purists that only produce great games. Plenty of lateral handpassing, basketball play, and tactical fouls.

Where's the "Dublin won't get a look in" lad? Without a doubt the better team.

    My thoughts on the game:

Obviously not much between the teams and I think the Dublin goal was the turning point. Jack O’Connor said it after that you simply can’t give them that energy and juice scoring into the Hill.

Fitzsimons did very well on Clifford and should deservedly get man of the match. Not a slight on Clifford, Fitzsimons has been one of the best players over the last 12 years.

James McCarthy should be in the conversation for the greatest player of all time in my opinion. I would love him to come back but you got the impression for his interview (and Rock’s) that today was the last game for a number of players.

I think ultimately this Dublin team is the greatest and should get all the plaudits. I think there’s going to be a serious transition if/when the likes of Cluxton, McCarthy, Fitzsimons, Rock, McCaffrey, Kilkenny, Scully, Fenton, Mannion go. I’ve said it before but that age bracket of lads born from 93-95 are really special and I think Dublin will be in a bit of trouble when they move on.

Wouldn't agree. He had other options available. Very often he was getting away from fitzsimons and then taking on a low percentage shot when he didnt need to. Ego maybe? Overconfidence? Hard to combat it when so many keep talking him up to the level he has been. No doubt they were rash shooting decisions. The worst part was, after missing a few, he kept going for them

It was close, anyone's game really, well done Dublin

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,012 ✭✭✭robbiezero

He could have very easily been MOM had he been on any sort of shooting day, but his shooting and also his composure in that second half were way off his usual standards.

Should have finished with 5 or 6 from play and a class assist which would have been huge.

    100%.

He had the legs on Fitzsimons. Just lay off the ball and run into space. Repeat if necessary.

    Our shot conversion was brutal.

Kerry lost the game because of the following

    (1) D Clifford drove three sides - consecutive- in the second half when it was very tight and each point mattered as they were gold dust. If one of them went over it could have been significant

    (2) it’s AlWAYS very dangerous to be dangling By players with the ball Around the back line when it’s not necessary. This is what led to the Dublin goal. If you make one slip the opposition is away as that part of the field is relatively unpopulated. If a team wants to dally with the ball then do it from midfield forward

    (3) Kerry - especially in the second half- were much slower than Dublin in getting the ball out of the backs and getting it into a scorable space . Dublin were more urgent in their movements and moved things faster

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 127 ✭✭Ignacius

They won the match fair and square. The second half goal was a big swing. When the game was close at the end, the decisions went Dublin’s way. I don’t think there can be any argument with that. I’m saying it’s a pity as would have been more interesting with those calls being fair. Not ingracious.

Fair dues to the Dubs. 9 all Irelands is an unbelievable achievement and they are fabulous players.

That was an extremely good Sligo U20 team beaten only by an outstanding Kildare U20 team. And Sligo have very good U20 panel for next year too.

Showing your complete lack of knowledge of underage football there.

Another chapter in the history books for this bunch of players. Better team in a scrappy enough game overall.

Dublin will always, always be in the mix for the AI.

But I'm thoroughly enjoying reading through this churlish nonsense while the bus winds its way back to local.

    The bitterness is truly life-giving.
