The Indo is some rag though, facilitating this type of BS.

Brolly is what the The Sunday Game needed. Controversial like Spillane but that's what made it good and watchable. Since they got rid of Brolly they just have robotic analysists some who are as boring and one dimensional as hell and are as entertaining as a piece of cardboard.

This is what you said in a post which I called a conspiracy theory.

It's inevitable that Dublin and Kerry when you factor in they always get the majority of close calls in close games. At this point the GAA look worse then FIFA. At least they pretend they want minnow's to make finals. If the gaa could have a Dublin v Kerry final every year for eternity they'd be delighted.

4 of the last 5 hurling finals won by nearly 10 points or more.

Football getting much more out of its finals in that time.

Ok but what has that got to do with the GAA taking a hit to favour Kerry? Are you referring to my post about putting tailteann final on the wrong day? Because that decision most certainly cost them revenue.

The GAA want a Kerry Dublin final every year? Why so?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,847 ✭✭✭✭dxhound2005

The Kerry thing was explained to you before, did you forget that as well?

If you think the Tailteann final was on the wrong day, you should have challenged it back in December 2022, when it was set in the Master Fixtures Plan. The GAA are as bad as FIFA for sticking to schedules.

Final 15.07.2023 (Sat) (One Game) The winners of the All-Ireland Semi-Finals shall meet in the All-Ireland Final.

Kerry bring much less supporters than a lot of counties to every match bar the final - if the GAA wanted to maximise revenue then they would look to have kerry eliminated as early as possible.

If Tyrone had beaten Kerry in the quater final then the semi final v Derry would have sold out.

The final will sell out so thats a fixed element to the discussion - it's the earlier rounds that the GAA need to favour teams in and they wouldnt favour Kerry if money was the priority.

I never claimed what you think. I agree with you. It never makes sense to me why the GAA are so obsessed with kk, Kerry and Dublin getting to finals. I get why they wanted Dublin but they helped Dublin so much their support levels actually dropped which is insane why so much of Ireland lives there.

They publicly stated which refs definitely heard that they needed and wanted Dublin to win in the past. I don't understand why they don't publicly tell the current referees that we need Armagh, Tyrone, Galway, Derry, mayo, Roscommon etc to win.

It's like the GAA are trying to prove they're not the grab all association. Puting the tailteann final with the Dublin final clearly proved they hate money.

As a GAA club man I hate these trends as less money for the GAA means less for the clubs.

Considering Dublin walk their way to almost every semi angled they generally sell out it's insane they don't at least wait until they know which semi Dublin are in before setting it. INSANE.

Nobody knew last December which teams would be competing. There was this same sort of nonsense earlier in the year when Mayo had play the first round in Connaught a week after the League final. People wanted to abandon the Fixtures list just to accommodate them.

It is all set out months in advance, and if it didn't suit Meath, they should have avoided being in the Tailteann.

Correct, bar the munster championship it's been a poor finish for hurling in general, kk clare the best game. Two semi finals in football very good, you would be hoping for a good final.

Joe gets far too much attention and that keeps him going .He has hunted with the fox and ran with the hounds for years yet people seem to take him seriously they should know better .

I'm going to predict a close match at the weekend. Looking forward to a good, intense game, played honestly by two pure footballing teams, followed by several weeks of bickering on here over a 50/50 decision that was given or not given.

Will aim to duck out before the still frames start to appear

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,119 ✭✭✭manofwisdom

Bold prediction of a close match! Does "pure footballing teams" include numbers back in defence when not in possession? as lets not kid ourselves Dublin and Kerry will be doing plenty of that at the weekend and the majority of scores will likely come from counter attacks or turnovers when their defences aren't set.

Last year the widely held opinion was the Dublin would have beaten Kerry in the All Ireland semi final had Con O'Callaghan played, a theory that will be well tested on Sunday.

It's nothing to do with Meath. It could be Cavan, Westmeath or anyone else who would be making a tailteann final.

Why does the fixture have to be set in stone? It's literally a 1 Day difference. Just fix it for the weekend and decide the exact date later.

Dublin fans missed out aswell you know. As it sold out early many dubs couldn't get tickets not to mention there were about a thousand Meath and down fans on the hill where dubs prefer. So that's another loss for Dublin fans.

Not sure what your problem is here.

Your conspiracy theory will have Dublin competing in every semi final and final in the future. You just need to refine it to get the GAA to arrange their schedules around that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,978 ✭✭✭Seadin

It all depends on the management and if no bias or politics are involved when picking the correct players.

Are the Kerry team doing the Dublin banquet Sunday night or will they fly down home like the Limerick lads?

I believe they have accommodation booked in the Burlington hotel so the answer is yes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,382 ✭✭✭rolling boh

Are you sure many missed out because it looked to me anyone who really wanted a ticket got one plus despite the full house announcement there seem to be spaces around even allowing for most of the first match fans leaving .

In fairness that LK team were hailed as legends, they enjoyed the celebrity status, and there were mgmt issues integrating the younger guys with the old legends - all covered in Unlimited Heartache book, written around a decade ago, massive infighting

Hailing Brolly, Spillane and O'Rourke as a golden age of punditry is nostalgic BS and is trumpeted by none other than Spillane and Brolly themselves. Spillane was God awful and resorted to spitting out mind numbing stats when analysing a team, his great tactical input was "kick it over the blanket" Brolly's party piece was personal attacks on certain players and managers and apart from talking over everyone he had very little else of impact to say. O'Rourke sat there and smirked like a wise old owl and collected his pay. None of them would hold a candle to even the worst pundit on the circuit at present.

Good podcast here by two of the lads from that great game a decade ago -

    Paddy Andrews and James O'Donoghue

    hqdefault.jpg

Both lads finding it a tough final to call.

James thinking Kerry have the edge on freetaking for most of the game. Hard to argue with that point.

Paddy thinks that the the game will be won in midfield Howard preventing ball into Clifford, which tied into James point that Kerry have to get ball into Clifford and Dublin have to try and prevent the ball going in.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

My previous and highly confident belief that some Nally tickets would go on sale on Ticketmaster this Friday is fading… rapidly! But you never know…

Was Stacks quota cut as they are now an Intermediate side?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 71 ✭✭CantonasCat2

Right, is that the way it works? I didn’t know that. Very interesting!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,182 ✭✭✭theoneeyedman

Haven't heard this episode of the pod yet, but I've been pleasantly surprised with O'Donohue as a contributer on this show during the summer. Has interesting enough views and isn't trying too hard to be controversial or to be out there with a hot take as others, including Andrews, can be.

Fair play to him, I was never particularly fond of him as a player but he's a good contributer in this.

No it’s not, I just enjoy mentioning the fact that Stacks were relegated to intermediate
