Yep, Nintendo used to be really good with user replaceable batteries until the Switch I think. But companies like Apple will complain and the fan boys will follow. Also XBox controller supports regular AAs, rechargeable AAs and rechargeable battery packs and still people complain.

The argument will be that to make devices smaller, waterproof etc you need to seal the battery in away from user meddling ... but it's just to make people replace the device rather than just replace the battery.

Going by the definition in the law which specifies what readily removable is, the switch already is or is very close. At worst changing the screw types to standard Philips would do it. Currently it's tri wing and JIS (Bane of Japanese bike riders). They could also just throw a double ended 00 in the box.

A portable battery shall be considered readily removable by the end-user where it can be removed from a product with the use of commercially available tools, without requiring the use of specialised tools, unless provided free of charge with the product, proprietary tools, thermal energy, or solvents to disassemble the product.

More FF7R thoughts. Loving it. First game I've been properly into since probably Hades. RE4R was great too but it wasn't really a new experience.

I was blasting through the combat as Tifa and having fun that way. Now there are harder battles that actually require thought and switching characters and I'm still enjoying that. Going through it at a snail's pace though but that's just life. At the point where Aerith joins as a party member.

Much better situation. Sony and Nintendo will have to do this for their controllers as well. I was so sick of the PS4 controller not lasting for a decent game session

I just had PTSD flashbacks to an oft fought skirmish in the console wars, when there would be arguments over how primitive the xbox controllers were, vs the dualshocks inbuilt batteries.

I mean I'm all for rechargeable batteries but not when they last barely 2 hours.

Saying that I'm playing the 3DS a lot lately and that's another contender for **** battery life.

The latest NoClip is something kind of amazing: Vampire Survivors' creator didn't want to show his face during the interview ... so NoClip simply used a puppet instead 😂

Anyone else looking forward to Remnant 2? Out next Thursday for 50 quid. I thought the first game was fantastic so will probably pick this up assuming reviews are ok.

Yes, I am. First one was fantastic!

GMTK had their yearly game jam: as always, the level of imagination and polish from these 48 hour doodles is amazing (and demotivating for someone who has tried to build games); so many of them I'd happily pay for as full games.

And Eurogamer's first 5 star game is Pikmin 4

Always adored this series and I'm hoping this will be the fire emblem awakening for it where it finally hits critical mass.

Nintendo knocking it out of the park as they say, AGAIN, on a device with the power of a smartphone from 2015. I wonder does this actually make their job easier, as they have to focus on gameplay to stand out ?

The switch uses prime piss filter level hardware. What was their excuse? I think it's just nintendo make actual games and not vehicles for sad dad storylines.

Ledge! Went through it all only to find out I'm apparantly part of the Insider program which automatically signs me up to betas. Yurt! Weekend sorted (outside of the All-Ireland that is!). Will be interesting to compare it to FH5, seeing as that appears to be the general consensus. But with planes and boats n stuff.

Got a cheap 2nd hand copy of Skyrim Special Edition that upgrades for free to next gen. This is me weaning myself off XBox GamePass, my sub is up in October. Also, there is something strangely timeless about this game. I think it's the music and the simplicity of it, and the characters and setting feel authentic. Also, it's easy to revisit after a long time away. Other games are difficult to continue if you leave them for any length of time.

You love that game. I feel the same way about GTA V single player. I love just driving around or causing a bit of mayhem or just start the game from the beginning and play it through for the umpteenth time.

Jumped back into Rayman 3 HD again this evening and would you know the last time I played it I died on the last enemy of the level. Got him this time though and played a couple of levels. We are spoiled in modern games and all the checkpoints unlike this game die and you start the level from the beginning and would you know when I died the last time it was one of the longest levels to do in the game. Sickner.

I took the plunge and picked up Dave the Diver. I haven't played much more than the opening hour, but just wanted to use that pun. 😜

What I have played I like. Gives me a nice nostalgic feeling from back when I played those lucasarts point and click style games. Although not point and click game it has a similar vibe.

I ended up getting distracted by satisfactory on the steam deck for 15 hours, setting aside some time this week as I'm off work to really dive in. I can't help myself. 😞
