He was looking at naked pictures of " young " males ( in Rep of Ireland , those under 18 regarded as a child ) .

Was Jimmy Saville gay or bisexual ?

Or , was Jimmy Saville just a fcuking creep ?

    ( Catch my drift ? )

Why didn't he just go out cottaging like married men have been doing for years.

I feel sorry for Huw and his family, no evidence of illegality but Huw's career is potentially ruined, and his family have had this played out in public.

The Sun really needs to sued into oblivion for running this story with incorrect information.

    Debatable

Nothing had been proven and now case appears closed

If there's rampant speculation about the next sun story do we need celebs to officially deny now

They became a part of the frenzy

It was hew Edwards the least likely person I thought it would have been

The newspaper didn't publish his name or identify him in any way.

Secondly, having mental health issues and/or depression doesn't mean that stuff famous/public figures do is beyond reporting on.

Personally, I think the BBC should consider rehiring him at some point. If his wife and family are reconciled to mistakes he made in his private life, I don't see why this should be career ending (it actually sounds like his wife would be supportive if his career didn't come to an end).

At these times I’m always reminded of The Jam lyrics:

    He wasnt.

In the UK it is an offence for photos of u18s to be shared.

The Met police looked into that accusation and have said nothing illegal seems to have occurred.

So that implies any pics were over 18.

Is the wife's statement trying to make it out that he is only contacting young ones online cos he is suffering from mental health issues?

He has a history of depression, which is known about, but its not the reason he is doing this.

It looks more likely he has mental health issues because he is living a lie. A gay man who went ahead and got married and had kids.

Now that's its out, hopefully he will be able to get the help he needs and can live the life he wants to, and even get back to work. I don't think anything he has done should stop him working again.

Exactly like I said there will be a cohort who didn’t bother to keep up with a developing story and will now cut about claiming it was an underage individual.

She didn't do anything like that, just go and find it and read it.

Ciara Kelly saying today that this was the story not RT, yeah, that whataboutery worked out well fore her.

Jimmy saville was never charged or convicted, we still have the presumption of innocence in these islands.

He's treading a well worn path taking a cynical view

Defuse the situation resign+allude to mental health issues

Resurrect the career down the road

The blueprint is there for these situations

Cynical hat off I'm not saying he can't publicize his mental health issues , maybe he needs to

Perception and strategy is always at play here

He is acting on PR/legal advise here

No, I didn't take that from it at all. I'd say it's more the the speculation, being named and having that photo posted online, and knowing he'd eventually have to make a statement escalated his mental health issues.

There's also the impact on his wife and children, he has publicly put them in a very difficult and humiliating position.

I reckon the Sun is going to “triple down” on this story in time, and have an “EXCLUSIVE” interview with the Mother and Step Father of the young man in question.

The Sun won’t let the criticism directed at it rest- they’ll come out fighting even if it’s very minor points of law/public interest blah blah blah

    “Working as what?”

No one is saying “he can’t work”- but it’s very unlikely he’ll head the BBC news ever again as presenter- that train has long left the station.

If you presume Jimmy Saville is innocent, I’ve got these magic beans that will make you a fortune .

But I don't think there is enough here for this to be career ending anyway. An older married man had some inappropriate (for a married man) / sexual conversations with younger adult men on a dating app. That's hardly the biggest scandal to ever hit a celebrity.

It was a bit more than than just conversations - seemingly money being given for photos and perhaps expectation of more. In one alleged case there was a meetup during lockdown where couple hundred pounds handed over.

Its not Jimmy Saville territory. I dont think there are any 'innocent angels' here... more seedy and grubby. Not just talking about Edwards conduct here.

“Career ending” when it comes to a publicly funded TV station has a very wide stretch, and many times more this stretch when it comes to a role as important and revered as chief news presenter- he, after all led the BBC commentary on the death of the Queen - you don’t get to do that anymore if there are clear allegations out there about your sexually motivated behaviour, legal and all as it may be, towards young adults.

Assuming he returns to full health, and I do hope he does, I don’t see him featuring presenting any significant programme in the future - but then again, I don’t think he’s be interested either.

Absolutely understand the cynicism and I usually would be too. But this man has a well documented 20 year history of mental health issues that he's spoken about before all this.

Not that that in any way is an excuse for illegal behaviour (if any occured, and it doesn't look like it has atm, Sun were deliberately vague and social media jumped the gun imo)

I don't think this admittance to a mental health facility is some sort of diversionary tactic. I think it'd be fairly legitimate in the circumstances on anyone's mental health, never mind a person who has been in and out of similar clinics in the past.

I think, if no further facts emerge, it's an issue between him and his wife tbh. No naked pictures under 18. People can judge him, yes. But this only got traction because of who he is.

You can be sure countless "Bob in accounts" across Ireland are sending money to 18-22 year olds in exchange for nudes for example via Onlyfans. It's a private relationship issue. Bob in accounts wouldn't be newsworthy nor would his employer even know or sack him.

He has definitely messed up and made mistakes - I wouldn't be trying to minimise his actions as a married man with children. But The Sun were accusing him of all sorts a week ago : child pornography and child abuse and the likes.

He was made out to be a paedophile based on the testimony of parents, which was published against the wishes of the young person in question.

If you are made out to be a paedophile in a national newspaper read by millions, when it is absolutely NOT the case, then you are 100% a victim.

Yep- I think a man “more sinned against than sinning” is my take on it - he’s not totally without fault, but that’s about it.

There still hasn't been a denial of the original story.
