Who should it be? I think AC/DC would be nice.

Probably one of those depressing 'break up song' artists.

I am struggling to think of too many bands that would likely sell 80k tickets...Coldplay...the rolling stones...the killers maybe...

Are the Rednex still doing the rounds? Cotton eye Joe would be fantastic in front of 80000 people.

I also think that certain bands would appeal to an older audience, and perhaps a lot of these folk are now at an age where they aren't prepared to stand in a field for several hours to hear a band? Combined with all the hassle around travel etc.

Or perhaps thats just me! I know I would like to see acdc , having seen them in the 3Arena and Punchestown, but now I've reached a point in my life where seeing them in Slane wouldn't be worth the cost or hassle.

I would go see Arctic monkeys in Slane. id say they would be big enough to sell 80,000 tickets.

I don't see it tbh. I know they are playing Marlay Park soon and thinks it capacity 30k there were still tickets left a while back, plenty on resale sites still etc.

Definitely… Noel is doing a lot of interviews at present, mainstream and social media….the reunion is on the cards because his answers while giving Liam dogs abuse… he always say something like “ well he knows my number or he knows my managers number but he’s not interested… “

It’s an absolutely dreadful venue. Miles from anywhere, huge walks into and out of the venue, not enough toilets and bars, and the sound it dreadful if you aren’t close to the stage.

    4 non blondes

    Hey now

    Hey now

    What's going on ?

    On repeat for 2 hours.

    And Garth Brooks to support.

    Would sell out.

RTE would have their 2FM djs to cover it + the 2 Johnnie's + other influencers.

And their could be the tent where people who fly in by helicopter can talk about organic farming, the environment and about how drugs are bad while everybody gets **** faced, pregnant and or murdered on alcohol.

    😁

All the greats are dead or split. I suppose U2 aren't off the cards.

Music just nosedived when it became free.

genuine question for people a hell of a lot better placed to answer then me, but does music and rock / indie / rock n roll really hold the same attraction, attention, position and influence in younger people’s lives now ? As it once did ?

ok, the regimented way of consuming it has changed for eternity, buying albums, singles, gig tickets etc…..

lots of us though growing up were looking back, were obsessed with music…. Music was life…. Younger people I know, teens and 20’s now im not getting that vibe..

with tiktok, 936 tv channels and other shîte is it a little more of a backdrop ?

That you can have Ed Sheeran… an affable bland busker, and about as rock n roll as a cup of hot tea , headlines Wembley…. !? He probably puts on safety goggles changing guitar strings.

That you can have Harry Styles… headlining Slane ? a musically non credible individual who seems to be having himself marketed as some sort of ridiculous fake assed effeminate Gary Glitter meets Robbie Williams cross dresser showman pastiche….minimal shock value and zero talent value,,, but it seems ok to lots of people…. Including adults. Which I dunno.

id say old Lord Henry was content with his payday…. He’s 72 but recent photos show him looking considerably aged and unwell… he’s been in and out of hospital.. lung cancer apparently so by the sounds of it he’s struggling and recent photos show him looking like it…

maybe his young fella values the business aspects of Slane as opposed to the opportunities to continue a cultural and musical legacy…..

The vast legacy of incredible, credible artistic talent…. Who next ? Ariana Grande ? Bruno Mars ? For Slane ?
