He’s clearly not serious. Or else he’s stupid.

I see that argument but it works both ways. Grealish and Silva would be used to those tackles even in training so it wouldn't be anything new. Also the players doing those tackles under todays rules would be booked/sent off every 2nd game so they would be reigned in very quickly by the clubs. Comparing different players to past seasons is non comparable.

I know it works both ways - that was my "logic". Someone else brought the 1999 team forward, so I just did the reverse. Give it another 30 years and it will be a global game where the teams will be selected by "likes" and each player will have their own "value" and it will be a kind of Super League by stealth. Different XIs playing on different continents, 7 days a week.

Tonight, live from Beijing, its Qatari Red Devils vs Gazprom Go Go River Plate.

Its interesting to see the Red Devils roster this week actually contains three players who were on the River Plate side last Saturday. Currently Nacho Savage (son of former Red Devil star, Charlie Savage, and named after his once team mate, three time player of the year Alejandro Garnacho Ferreyra) is the world's leading player with 129 goals, 72 assists, and 22.5 million likes. If he scores today, he activates his $50m dollar bonus and will be forced to transfer to another side. The referee is about to blow his whistle, and start the first quarter.

    Just you wait!

What a sh*te season with sh*te football , a sh*te ending and a sense of just general boringness. Even city couldn’t give two sh*yes and switched off with two games to go.

It needs stronger challangers to city. It needs a stronger Liverpool, chelsea, United , arsenal or 4/5 other strong teams to put up a proper challange. Even one decent challanger or two isn’t asking a lot.

Im sorry but a season with a strong sky 6, you won’t see Brighton , Villa, Brentford or even a rejuvenated Newcastle that was bottom of the league 18 months ago, anywhere near top 6. The issue isn’t that it has to be sky 6, the issue is that none of the alternative teams are making a strong enough challange to city to make it a meaningful competition.

When the sky 6 are competing in Europe and playing well in the league you will get a far better competition. Even as United fan, the only reason we finished third is because the league is sh*te.

Maybe the league is technically stronger then any other league but that doesn’t change how boring it is to watch and how under whelming the drama/excitement has been.

As long as Pep stays, and the FA and Uefa allow them to spend whatever money they want, then the EPL is going to become like the French and German leagues, a 1 horse race.

It's been more or less that way for several years now. But it'll get worse.

Well, depends on how Newcastle develop and what happens with Man United.

A lot also depends on the FA financial irregularities and whether or not they're found guilty and if so suitably punished.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

A four-year deal for Postecoglu seems incredibly risky given how quick Spurs have gone through managers in recent years.

Its 3 years with an option for 1 extra, but it also shows that Levy and co are looking at him as a project manager. Not another "serial winner", but someone on the up who has done really well everywhere he's been (even if some will scoff at winning anything in Scotland/Japan/Australia). There are also significant changes coming to how we do recruitment (following the Brighton model apparently), so will be interesting to see how it goes.

Seems like a smart move to me, and i'm looking forward to us not playing the worst football i've ever watched.

They just need to back a manager now, he's completely untested at this level but my celtic supporting friend absolutely raves about they style of football they play. The obsession with Top 4 with a poor a squad is a recipe for disaster for any manager there when it goes south and the pressure builds.

I think it depends on whether Levy will let him properly rebuild as that Spurs squad needs a lot of surgery (Kane issue not withstanding)

If he gives him the funds and the time it could well work out as a shrewd appointment but from everything I've witnessed regarding Levy he'll only do it half assed and it could go sideways fairly quickly.

I can’t see it working out for Ange the better option would have been to appoint Potter, take the money for Kane and have a 3 year plan, but I don’t think Levy has the patience for that. A manager coming from the Scottish PL is a risky strategy at least Potter is tried and tested in the PL.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,562 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

We've used up our quota of ex-Chelsea managers, so Potter was off the table 🤣

I'm excited / interested to see how he gets on. For a relatively older man in terms of sporting careers, I'd never heard of him before he joined Celtic. By all accounts he had them playing great attacking football fairly quickly. Constant pressure & chance creation, which I like to see in a football team. I much prefer that to sterile control or counter attacking as your main philosophy. Let's see if he can transfer that over to a tougher league now. Hopefully he doesn't just get the guillotine because he doesn't win his first 10 games.

Potter is very risky too. He failed at Chelsea and his performance at Brighton was not as brilliant as popular belief, although the recruitment was very good.

Simon Harris is monitoring the situation...

Standard wise I'd rate winning the Scottish league as somewhat on a par with winning the Championship.

I wouldn't expect any improvement from Spurs under Postecoglu than Spurs under Conte

The Championship is so much harder to win that the Scottish Premier. There is only one team in Scotland financially.

What about all his other achievements? Also the state of the celtic team when he took over(did they even have 11 players) versus what he has left and the style of play?

Lots of people writing him off already, I think he will do well if given time(and backing). Excited for this appointment in the league.

Is Premier League experience so important?

Since football was invented in 1992 I think only Dalgleish and Ranieri had managed in England before winning it with their clubs. Mourinho as well technically I suppose.

Just a few points on Ange

    1.        To be successful could be reliant upon him getting his partner in crime, John Kennedy, to join the “ticket”.

    2.        He brought in 3 players from Japan, but him speaking Japanese helped them hit the ground running and feel like they belonged. Dunno if he would bring any of them along for the ride, but it helped him in getting the squad going right from the off.

    3.        I’d be interested to know what Spurs fans might consider as “success” in the current competitive EPL? Looking at money spends, they will be behind Man City*, Newcastle, and potentially Man Utd. This then puts them up directly against perennial competitors Arsenal and Chelsea, and perhaps a one-off “over-achiever” (based on traditional terms) all fighting over one spot!

For me, its not so much about where we finish next year, its about how we go about doing it.

The rebuild has been needed for years now, Poch said it in 2018 afterall, and that is what needs to be the focus for now. Clear our the huge amount of deadwood that we have in the squad and get the players we do have actually enjoying the football we play. Give some of the younger prospects (Sarr, Udogie, Pence, Gil etc...) we have a decent run, and find out if they are worth keeping or not. Play some attacking football, and have some fun with it. We've been saddled with shockingly bad football for 4-5 years now, and its resulted in more fan apathy towards the club then i've ever seen.

Spurs fans need to accept that we won't be challenging for top 4 next year, as there are several teams significantly ahead of us at the moment. Finishing in the Europa league places would already be an improvement.

Kane may aswell see out the last year of his contract and have his pick next summer. Levy won't sell to a PL club unless he gets a big premium, he knows the value Kane can bring by finishing in the Top 4 and he remains their best hope. Getting 80m-100m for Kane is pointless they won't be able to replace his goals.

fee in excess of e100 for bellingham is being reported to real. i wonder how much in excess? i thought it was more meant to be £150m.

e100m is £85m pounds. seems a good deal considering rice will be more

he is turning 30 next month, would he really command 100m in this window ? with that money they could replace his goals easily
