Yeah but people were also complaining in the super 8s when 2 went through and you had the possibility of dead rubbers.

The current approach gives 4 extra knockout matches and no dead rubbers in the group stage. Not sure why that is seen as such a big disadvantage compared to one less game day and dead rubbers in the group stages

you go out and celebrate "Mayo Day" this year? Mayo day, lord god almighty

It's been going on for a good few years.

    It's a charity fundraiser.

Mulroy getting the big build up from Darragh Maloney for that free and he jinxed him.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Murphy from Louth is on a yellow, but if was me I would have given him a yellow just for the stupid looking haircut.

Can’t believe the attendance. Thought they’d moved to league to June. Probably more people queuing to go up Croagh Patrick right now.

Mayo won’t be putting the frighteners on anyone with this performance so far.

another rank bad display courtesy of Noel Mooney in blue..throw in for the restart and there was a blatant clothesline, just ignored…play on…frees and marks constantly taken yards from where they should. Somehow Mayo get a free when a Louth man shoved to the ground. 🥸

Almost perfect conditions for football barring a section of the pitch…. 21 scores between both teams 68 minutes in 😵‍💫

i think this type of match will stand to Mayo, where they have to dig in nothing given easy to them. Attendance wise did the Mayo fans think they would win it handy? There was not much of an attendance in the Kildare v Dublin match down in Kilkenny either to be honest. Is GAAGO/TV coverage affecting things? Much handier to watch it on that especially for the less glamorous ties.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

The heat got to Darragh! Thought it was level and then was bemused at why the ref didn't give then one last play when he blew in the 7th minute of a 5 minute injury time period!

Cork could rattle Mayo next week. Should have no fear.

No,narrow pitch and really plays like it.Really doesn't suit Mayos style for the last 10-15 years

They relaid the pitch last year and managed to lengthen it by 6metres but unfortunately not an open to widen it.I think it makes sense to take out a few rows of seating on the MacHale Road side to do this but it doesn't look like that'll even happen.

There’s another two week gap now to the final games

They could and should . A stronger ref picking up on all the Mayo rule breaking nuances and skullduggery and an even and fairly reffed contest 15 vs 15… Mayo looked leggy today.

In fairness to mickey Harte he has turned Louth into a competitive outfit, if they could unearth another couple of quality players they’d be close enough. As it is the games they’ve had against the “big” teams can only benefit them in their progression

The blueprint to beat Mayo is well known at this stage

    1) play a blanket defense

    2) play them in MacHale Park

Very average teams have done this down the last few years.

No surprise Mayo players and fans prefer Croker for summer football especially.

I thought the bench won it for Mayo with the pace of Conroy,Durcan,McDonagh and Hession.

All those lads bar maybe McDonagh are starters later in the summer.

Disappointed not so much with the performance which was average against a difficult team in difficult conditions but by the fact Mayo let Louth in for the inevitable drama and heart attack Mayo finish.

Bottom line though is mission accomplished, win the game and no obvious injuries. Cillian,Diarmuid,Kevin McLoughlin and Eoghan McLaughlin presumably back for crunch game vs Cork.

Might want to look for a refund on the pitch. Embarrassing.

Isn't head the head the first criteria if 2 teams are level on points in the group?

If so, even if Kerry win and Mayo lose versus Cork we top the table?

    I could be wrong

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,901 ✭✭✭HBC08

100% ,supporters funded that through an initiative to buy plaques and put them under the stand.

I know all about it as I bought one for myself and one through my company,€500.

The thing was a fook up from start to finish, thankfully the senior team won't be playing there again this year and it can be fixed over the next few months.

Surely the CB can go back to the company that laid it? Not exactly a great advertising for their work either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,901 ✭✭✭HBC08

No because that would put kerry,Mayo and Cork all on 4 points and then it goes to points difference. We need to win or draw v Cork barring a massive upset in Louth v Kerry.

Decent game between Donegal and Derry, very open. Derry have been going for goals from the offset, must have had 8 or 9 good chances.

And just got their second. Game over.

That goal looked very tight to being a square ball

2nd Derry goal looked a blatant square ball. Umpires do anything anymore?

I found it here you are correct -

Where two teams are involved in a tie breaker, the outcome of the meeting of those counties will be used.

In the event of teams finishing on equal points in the groups, the tie shall be decided by

the following means and in the order specified below:

    - Where two teams only are involved – the outcome of the meeting

of the two teams in the group

    - Score difference – subtracting the total scores against from the total scores for

    - highest total score for

    - highest total goals for

    - A play-off

If Kerry win and Mayo lose its a three way tie.

It's down to scoring difference. If Mayo and Kerry lose Cork top the group,Mayo is second d and Louth qualify in third place

No real surprise with Mayo,Derry,Monaghan and Roscommon winning today but it was a surprise that Louth after the trimming their took off Dublin in Croke Park got within one point of Mayo in MacHale park. Sligo gave a decent account of themselves last quarter Roscommon's better fitness and strength in depth proved key. Derry and Monaghan in two high scoring games both will be happy to win but not pleased to concede so much to Clare,Donegal who aren't the best of scorers.

Mayo are great all day long if you let them run at you, a packed defence by a good top 6 team will knock them out of the championship. Same story different year.

That’s it in a nutshell……..they simply don’t have footballers to kick a point from distance.

    Really?

Easy enough to play that against Mayo in smaller provincial grounds, you dont see that happen often to Mayo in Croke Park.
