It really depends on your use case. The 1C was important to me, but during winter it's down to 0.5C at least in my case.

    Hi @silver_sky ,

do you know from where i can download that software?

I should have instaled 2x 5KW Puredrive batteries tomorrow. just trying to see what "gadgets" apps should i install.

    Thanks!

    From here - https://puredrive-energy.co.uk/firmware-updates/

You need a specific cable for it and a laptop with windows on it. The application is specifically for diagnostic and firmware updates on the batteries. It's not something you should need and really I'd say if any issues get your installer to look at it.

Thanks silver_sky. Anyone else with Puredrive batteries here care to comment? Would you still go for them now or would you have chosen another battery manufacturer?

I have 2, no significant issues as such. A fair few alarms but not sure if it's the batteries or the Solis inverter causing them but it all works good apart from that. Alarms are "no battery" and grid related but never caused any real issues to be bothered about. I would buy them again no problem because I can run my electric shower on the single element off them without using the grid.

Just follow up on the firmware update for my PureDrive II DC battery. The dropout issue I reported previously is no more and the battery state of health has increased from 99% to 100%.

Are you having any issues with the battery not fully charging sometimes since the update?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,105 ✭✭✭silver_sky

No issues since update - all good. It charges to 100%.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 131 ✭✭Murt2

I've two of them, ever since the update they haven't charged to 100% without me having to reset them first.

Get on to puredrive support if they're not working right

I raised a ticket there. Unfortunately they are notorious for taking an eternity to get back to you....

Hey folks. Have the option to buy a second 5kw puredrive at a decent price. I'm reasonably confident with electrical work (maintenance tech) but I've never worked on batteries. Would I be right in saying its just the communication cat cable plus battery to battery DC cables ?. The solis inverter will recognise the second battery ??

Basically, yes. I did the same and picked up a 2nd battery off a boardsie and installed it myself.

    Brilliant, thanks Jonathan.

Make sure they are both compatible, some older Puredrive batteries don't get on with the newer ones afaik. Also remember to fit the RJ45 terminator.

Yeah con I got onto puredrive support and gave the SN of my current battery and they said its fine to add a puredrive 2. Can't really make out the text in that photo. The RJ45 terminator, what is its function? I assume it comes with the battery.

Just got solar installed with solis hybrid inverter recently . Didn't get battery as was very expensive 3.5 k etc? Have seen one now on donedeal for 2.2k for a 5kwH battery. Still in box.

My question is can I install it myself. Is it complicated and is there any risk of messing up current system which working fine?? Also can there be issues with these batteries, obvs big outlay for second hand item.

    Thanks

Solis is compatible with a lot of different batteries. Some and pre-programmed into the inverter and is a matter of selecting it from a list, others are set up under user-defined. Would need the details of the battery to be sure but a good chance it would work ok.

It is not a complicated business to connect a battery.

If you post more details to be sure, inverter and battery models?

It's beside where you plug in the cat 5 cable on the battery, you should have one on the battery you have where you will plug your new battery into so just plug it into the new battery to terminate it. If you add another (3rd) battery you would move it to the third one to terminate it.

Ah yes. It had a cover on it never noticed that before. I was hoping to mount and connect it tomorrow but like a dope I pulled a muscle in my back carrying it up the stairs

I have 3x 5kWh PureDrive batteries. 1 I got 2nd hand and asked the installer to put install it at the same time as the other 2. They had lots of problems installing any of them to begin with. A more knowlegable installer was then sent out and he got the 2 new ones running but said that he would need a software update to do the 3rd.

That's been several months and the company aren't responding to emails/ calls. Is there anyone someone could recommend to get the 3rd one up and running? It's already attached to the wall so I can't imagine it's a huge job for some who knows what they're doing. At this stage, I'm happy to just pay someone else and get it done.

Get on to Puredrive support it's possible the batteries are not compatible. Some or all 1st gen don't work with 2nd gen batteries afaik. A member back up the thread had issues and needed an update done. They might have some better info. @ silver_sky

PureDrive are so slow and frankly lied to me multiple times about sending stuff. I finally did get the cable for the upgrade in the end and asked them to assist over the phone. I was concerned that maybe there was an issue with the battery. They said do it yourself and give us a call if issues.

So I have the cable and was able to get my 5kWh battery updated to the current firmware. The issues I was having stopped.

Where are you based? If you're not far I may be able to help. I'm not an installer though, just another like you that had to muddle through these companies with awful support. :(

The batteries all need to be the same series though. Check the serial numbers, what digit do they each start with?

That's an incredibly generous offer. I'm in Rathfarnham and will PM you to see if a meet-up is possible.

I just checked there and they all begin with: WSUK65502xxxxx. The x's are where they start to differentiate from each other. I hope that means they're all compatible at least.

Does anyone have access to the BMS update tool?

I finally got the update cable sent out but the download is missing from their website.

Link is working for me. Redirects to a sharepoint site.

I might borrow the cable off you once your finished with it if that's okay. Need to update my pair. Still running original firmware.

Hi Jonathan when I click the link it shows the folder empty.

On the cable more than happy to stick it in the post to you when I am done with it.

Would anyone have a cable I could borrow? The one Puredrive sent out doesn't appear to connect correctly and looks slightly damaged.

Ha Long Bay kindly sent me along a cable to test. It worked correctly with my 5kWh battery. I ordered another cable from elsewhere which has now arrived, and will make it up later using the original as a guide. I'll make a post later on the outcome. This will hopefully help others be less reliant on the shambles of PureDrive support.

    Hi,

    I have 2 5KW Pure-drive batteries for about a year now.

I am currently having an issue where the batteries only charge to 96/97% in the Afternoon and any excess energy produced by the Solar Panels over and above what is used by the House is exported to the GRID and not used to charge the batteries to 100% they will only charge to a MAX of 96/97% in the afternoon.

However this is not the case in the morning , prior to 12 noon. Any excess energy produced by the Solar Panels over and above what is required by the House is stored in the Batteries until they reach 100% and then the excess is exported to the GRID.

I have checked the battery details and the Battery is NOT setup to Dump or Discharge onto the GRID in the Afternoon.

Wonder if anyone came across this issue before .

    Regards, footfall789
