I'm sure we will see him share his "expertise" on BT or Sky. Might even see him telling us all about "bet thing" like his equally talented managerial friend.

Hopefully with the new owners and name update to TNT Sports we might see from fresh faces away from the usual ones who were on BT

Well Jake Humphries has already announced he's leaving, so there's a massive improvement straight away.

I can't believe how badly assembled the BT punditry team is, I actually can't watch it.

Jake Humphries to be the new face of Soccer Saturday? have they announced who is replacing Jeff?

BT have the best punditry in English speaking television.

As long as you only watch Jimbo and his Euro crew who are all real journalists which is what all shows should be rather than Mr famous Man.U/Pool/England player.

I can't think of a single analyst of any sport who was a legend as both a player and analyst.

mad that toney only got 8 months with 3 of those essentially free, given he backed his own team to lose 13 times. that must be as close to match fixing as you can get - i dont know if he was playing in those matches though

Bans should always be game and not time related.

Tony Romo is pretty incredible at both.

And in fairness to him, Giles in his day was an excellent analyst. Totally agree with the broad point though, that in most cases good journos are better than random ex-pros - and they tend to be more willing to put in the work too. Love listening to the likes of Jimbo, Ken Early, Jonathan Wilson, Tim Vickery, Barney Ronay, Marcela Mora y Araujo, etc etc.

Yup he wasn't involved in any of the matches. 11 of the 13 bets were against Newcastle while he was out on loan and the other two were when he was on loan at Wigan but he wasn't involved in that game. Only played in games where he betted on his team to win.

Tony Romo is a good shout.

John McEnroe, Mats Wilander, Boris Becker for tennis.

Johnny Miller, Nick Faldo for golf.

Ian Botham, Michael Holding for cricket.

But golf is probably the only sport I follow as close as football and probably not coincidentally find most pundits to be rubbish. The more you know about a sport the harder it is for pundits to provide insight.

Having said that the average football pundit is objectively terrible. While I find the average tennis pundit pretty good, again probably because I don't follow it that closely.

I'd say the average IQ of tennis players is higher than footballers though, or is that a classist statement?

I think FIFA should be the judge in these cases particularly if the association is looking for a worldwide ban. There is not much to gain for the FA to ban an English international for longer, but had it been a foreign player he might have been banned until after Euro 2024. Same goes for any association, not just the FA.

Simon Harris is monitoring the situation...

Man City and their footballing staff are some operators with their shell companies and the likes. We've seen that in the past with Mancini and the fake sponsors.

Mino Riaola died in April 2022, but somehow in January 2023, he created a company registered in the UK. However a few months later, he(?) decided he didn't want to be the majority shareholder and handed over control to another person, his old business partner. The company still has one remaining director, who by chance also is listed as a director of another company, along with the Haalands. Erling being the sole shareholder.

The Taxation Disciplinary Board is investigating currently investigating the companies but there is probably nothing illegal invovled.

It's above board, but the question remains about who is paying this company. Is the company being used as an external consultant for some business work in some foreign lands perhaps? Let's say 1 hour every month for £5m perhaps?

To be fair, I'd say a lot of footballers are using shell companies and other means to avoid paying tax, but I wonder how many clubs are using them to avoid showing how much they are actually paying their players to skirt around the FFP / PL Financial rules? I've been told in the past that a certain PL club was paying the girlfriend of a certain player for some 'consultancy work' via an external company as a side agreement as part of a new contract. That same player had been rumoured to be trying to leave that club that summer (and last summer) because they don't like the climate and might just leave this summer after a few attempts. Maybe the money overrides the rainy weather.

20 game ban - Brentford loan him to LOI or Brazil for the summer so he could serve it there and be back in the EPL by end of September.

If they specify '20 EPL games' to avoid such a loophole, then they are less likely to get FIFA support for enforcing it worldwide which would enable him to do a loan move and actually continue playing.

The EPL/FA have to be careful here as they need to do it in such a way as to get FIFA worldwide support - and this isn't automatic as it's only a breach of an English rule, not a football rule.

Could potentially say a number of games, and a registration ban (the reverse of when clubs are banned from registering new players).

it’s tricky to find consistency in punishment any way you try though… one would hope they take the time of the season (and summer break) into account on a more case by case basis.

Well done Luton Town, always exciting to have a new team in the Premier League.

Always love a weird ground and weird kit. Adds Abit of flavour.

I'd be a bit worried they could end up like Derby given their lack of resources.

But on the other they are already under-resourced for the Championship yet won promotion so they will be a fun watch!

When I think of Luton I'm immediately transported back to the late 80s Panini sticker album with the shiny stickers they had for all the team crests.

The important thing is to prepare for that and not bankrupt the club trying to stay up.

I think there’ll be a few twists and turns with the relegation battle today but ultimately I think Everton will get the win to send Leicester and Leeds down

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,452 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

Everton could still survive with a draw. Although I think they will sneak a win.

As long as Leeds and Leicester both don't win.

I fancy Leicester to do Hammers ok. But not so sure Leeds will beat Spurs.

Is Steve Foster still playing for them, with his long hair curly hair and tennis style headband.... He was sooo cool!

leeds 1 down. think they were on the way down regardless

Probably would've been better if Spurs had something to play for

Big goal for Leicester, stay up as it stands on GD
