They'll be determined once they know who they are. All 4 matches are on the same weekend, so they'll probably have two in Croke Park and two elsewhere depending on who is playing. They may go 2 on one day in Croke Park if they think they'll get them in without a mad scramble for tickets. These matches are supposed to be on neutral ground.

The qualifiers for the QF will be played at home for the team that finishes 2nd in the group.

Last year it was two double headers in Croke Park.

DERRY AND CLARE will play their All-Ireland SFC quarter-final in a doubleheader with Dublin-Cork at Croke Park on Saturday 25 June, the GAA have confirmed. Both fixtures will be shown live exclusively on Sky Sports, with Derry-Clare throwing in at 3:45pm and Dublin-Cork at 6pm.

The following day, Sunday 26 June, will see another doubleheader at GAA HQ: Galway will face Armagh at 1:45pm before Kerry square off with Mayo at 4pm. Both Sunday quarter-finals will be broadcast live on RTÉ.

Yes and it will be that again unless the draw throws up a biggie. Dublin v Kerry would likely be a standalone.

    We'll just wait and see.

Depressing stuff though most counties will want to play at CP i suppose, would look great to have them in small neutral venues packed out or even have home advantage to the group winners, wont happen though

Mayo failed to beat a shite Tyrone team in the 2021 final. It was there on a plate. It's no wonder half the Tyrone team retired afterwards, they knew they stole one and couldn't win another with that team. Best of luck to them. Mayo are doing what mayo always do beat good teams on the way to losing an all Ireland, getting their supporters wound up only to let them down with a bang. My own opinion is Dublin will win the all Ireland but Galway will do it in the next few years.

With the structure, there doesn't seem to be any benefit winning your province or topping the group. Like u should have 2 home games if you win your province and then as you mentioned, a home quarter final if you top the group. But it's all about croke Park, imagine galway vs mayo in Castlebar or salthill for a semi final place, wow it would be electric or kerry and dublin in killarney

    Pat Spillane.

Kerry have now put themselves in a difficult position, in which they will now have to play an additional game - potentially against a strong opponent - in order to progress to the last eight, in a situation which they had hoped to avoid:

Jack O'Connor made no secret of the fact that he wanted to go the direct route. Now, almost certainly, once they win that one match or two, they'll be going in through the preliminary route. They will be going in the preliminary route, I can't see Mayo being beaten.

If they come second, they've home advantage - that's fine. But that means that Mayo will have a week's rest.

Those teams playing in the preliminary quarter-final will then the following week play the quarter-final, and the following week play the semi-final. Ha! I'll tell you this, if I was a manager, that's tough going.

If Kerry are second and have a home match in Killarney, they've a home match against say Tyrone or Armagh. That's not a gimme.

I'm not writing off Kerry, absolutely not writing off Kerry, but their task got that little bit more difficult since last Saturday.

This is the most open championship that I can remember...maybe somebody said since 2010.

In 2010 the four provincial winners got beaten, and Cork played Down in the final.

Obviously Dublin dominated since then, but I think it's the most open championship. I could pick out about seven counties that I feel have a chance. There's no outstanding team, none at all.

Kerry, Dublin, Derry, I could find flaws in every one of the leading contenders. That's what probably makes this year's championship so intriguing and so open. There are, I believe, seven in with a chance.

Kerry, Dublin, Derry, Mayo, Armagh, Tyrone, Galway...take your pick, in one of the most open All-Ireland football championships in recent memory.

"Those teams playing in the preliminary quarter-final will then the following week play the quarter-final, and the following week play the semi-final. Ha! I'll tell you this, if I was a manager, that's tough going."

    He's slightly off there.

The three games week on week for pQF teams are the final group game (17-18 June), pQF (24-25 June) and QF (1-2 July).

Every/any team will have a fortnight break to the semi-finals (15-16 July) and a fortnight to the final (30 July).

Three games on today, and not a peep about them around here.

I'd say it will be the last group game when someone will be eliminated before this season will get going.

Anyway Louth v Cork in progress, Cork 1-03 to 0-4 up with 20 minutes gone.

Armagh v Westmeath and Derry Monaghan on later.

A bunch of dead rubber games hidden behind a paywall, its basically a dummies guide to destroying interest in a competition.

I was flicking channels expecting some match to be on - horse racing on RTE2 - The Wonder Years on TG4.

‘At that moment…..’ I thought shouldn’t they have a stand alone packaged programme for the Tailteann Cup? Give it’s own spot? But it on the player then.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,011 ✭✭✭✭bucketybuck

As noted previously, all the fears about the Tailteann cup are coming to pass.

They said it wouldn't be another Tommy Murphy cup but here we are. If the people in charge don't give a **** about it then why exactly do they expect anybody else to.

There is nothing surprising about that, the surprise is how badly they are mangling the All-Ireland competition itself. Remember when excitement used to build as a team went on a run deep into the competition? That is dead unfortunately. Now the competition disappears behind a paywall and when eventually some teams pop out the other side for the knockout stages, just why do they think neutrals are going to be invested in what happens?

A big thumbs up to the dumbass marketing graduate who pitched this as a good money maker for the GAA.

Fantastic win for Cork, to go there and beat them by 2

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,147 ✭✭✭blowitupref

Cork 1-19 Louth 1-17. Cork should finish at least 3rd in the group now. Louth probably bottom without a win.

Both will likely concede big scores against Kerry, Mayo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,037 ✭✭✭YabaDabaDooley

Would have been nice to have the Louth v Cork game on tv. But listening to it on RTE radio it sounded a pretty good game with the result in doubt right up to the last minute. Good win for Cork and Louth will be gutted.

Joe McDonagh final now on RTE 2 something to watch at least.

I would not be surprised to see Cork scalp Kerry or Mayo. They are virtually guaranteed a preliminary QF at the moment. On there day they can trouble any team. Decent midfield and a couple of good forwards. 1-19 is good scoring away from home against a team many taught wound trouble them

They are st home to us ( Kerry) next week and always put up a decent performance in Cork. Neither will they be afraid of Mayo in CP. They have two points in the bag (and probably qualification) so can play with abandonment with nothing to lose. Cork are never a team to be taken lightly and are fifth on the AI's table after Kerry, Dublin, Galway and Meath

Cork are a good team. Was impressed with them when we played them down there in the league and we were lucky to come out with a one point win. The problem for them coukd be the inevitable backlash from Kerry who will be desperate to win. Any complacency Kerry may have had if they had won their first game is gone now. Still though Cork's win today will see a positive mood in the camp and they can play with a bit of freedom.

I get the paywalls to an extent, but to put games like Cork v Louth behind paywalls is pure madness. Immediately puts off neutrals, doesn’t draw attention to the competition.

It is a thing that needs notice/hype to grow the thing. Someone who would casually watch it so tells someone else about it - good match on etc.

I am fairly annoyed about this to be honest. Maybe it was just a scheduling issue?

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Cork really put it up to Dublin in the league this year down in Cork.

Even years ago in the Super 8’s when Dublin were flying. Cork played a great counter attacking keep ball strategy. Only didn’t work because Cork ran out of Petrol because had to work like mad - didn’t have the subs to keep it going.

The TV stations cannot show all the football and hurling matches. There are four Sam championship football.atches this weekend, five hurling matches along with Joe McDonnagh cup matches.

Next weekend there is 8 Sam matches and the same number of Tailtain cup matches.

Fair point. But sometimes they use the RTE News channel. During the AI Final they have no bother broadcasting the match on the double - as Gaeilge version.

Fire a match on there every so often - keep the neutrals interested?

Is there something wrong with my app or did Armagh just lose 1-7 to 7 ?

TBH RTE pick a lot of .matches with stronger team's that are unbalanced. Last year they showed a Dublin match instead of Clare/Limerick which was the first match that went to penalties. I always taught Cork Louth would be a decent match. Dublin Roscommon county be a finger tomorrow. I think about 70% of the games will be close enough

Unfortunately for Louth they had to play their home match today in Navan. So both teams today were playing away from home. Louth beat Cork at home in Ardee in the league. Perhaps they would have done so again today only for being forced to play outside the county.

Thought so. Was down as FT but been fixed now.

Perhapr, but Cork were winning that game before going down to 14 and Hurley didn't play at all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,037 ✭✭✭YabaDabaDooley

That's true but there's no denying home advantage is worth a few points. For Louth they needed a capacity close to 4,000 (why this figure i don't know) and Ardee holds approx 2,500 so it had to move to Navan.

A late Armagh goal puts the 1/12 favs into the lead 1-11 v 1-10.
