100% the Ryan incident was accidentally.. he had just put in a number of savage hits. Then as he fell off the tackle his head hit a knee.

Fair enough, I only saw it live. But the others I mentioned were shocking calls.

The pen they kicked to the corner should have been attempted imo, and after that no drop goal attempt was questionable as well.

On the whole though, unlucky not to win one of those two finals .

The final score flattered Leinster. They were pulverized by the LaR forwards in the second half. Fair play to the scrum for hanging in there. Given the trouble our kicking was getting us into, we might have started running the ball earlier.

I am really banking on the fact now that Faz is a better GameDay coach and can do better in a cup environment with the same players against the likes of France SA or NZ than what Leo et al could do against another club team.

Saying that there were moments of intensity that you'd rarely see in the international game today.

Fair enough, thought it was hitting the ground that caused it

Ala'latoa’s conduct was terrible. That sort of play has to be eliminated from rugby.

The majority of these players will be starting the crunch games for Ireland in the World Cup. I've full faith in Farrell and his coaching set up that he can rejuvenate them after a devastating loss.

Thought VDF was the best player on the pitch for a second year running. And again he came out on the losing side.

How many international teams would beat LaR?

It's not going to be eliminated until rucks are reffed properly. If defenses can infringe at will, then attacking players will hit rucks like that. It's a **** show.

Leinster completely imploded and bottled that final.....make no mistake....that will scar them...

Worrying for Ireland also, South Africa and France can play that type of La Rochelle gameplan.......

It does look like the current Irish side are better coached than Leinster. They (Ireland) know how to win under pressure and to win ugly if necessary, whilst there are one or two question marks over Leinster.

From an Ireland perspective the decline of Furlong is really worrying

whilst there are one or two question marks over Leinster.

To be fair, I think they're not really "question marks" at this stage

Ignoring the last pathetic line, but the rest you are right about and I'm gutted. As for Ireland hopefully this dampens talk of winning wc as I can't see us getting past 1/4s

Those LaR lineouts in the 22 were a sign that Leinster knew they'd lost. The ball going to Skelton 3 or 4 times without a contest...cost us a card and a try. It was always coming and no-one stepped up to take control. Ryan was missing but it's a final home, no time for not making decisions. That's on the players and the coaches. Kicking was poor, RB very disappointing. Guy has been playing behind Johnny at the highest level for years and today he was anonymous. Shipping passes without taking a step, missing kicks (he often makes those, even from the sideline), not stepping up for the drop goal or even to kick a penalty inside LaR's half that led up to the drop goal opportunity. Also notable that Nagatai stepped into his position defensively late on as he was getting targeted and beaten. A couple of the penalty kicks earlier on should have gone to the corner I thought, particularly late in the first half.

Ringrose played well, as did Henshaw and Conan, but Doris at 6 didn't do much by has own standards. Similar with VDF, great in defense for a lot of the game but not much more. JGP made a lot of poor decisions but was played off the park at set pieces. You'd wonder after the match what the combined team would be if it was fairly even beforehand. Ryan was a big loss but Sexton was the missing piece that might have made the difference. Fair play to LaR though, given the horrible start they showed unbelievable bottle and courage to come back and dominate from minute 20 on. Defitely echos of Leinster and Northampton. It's bad news for the WC and I feel like we need to get ROG back to Ireland asap. Another tight loss but the record will show Leinster as nearly men during this whole period in Europe. Do they need to recruit a ten and another big forward?

Im thrilled for Dilane, Ryan, ROG.

    Munster on the brain??

Not sure why ye be bringing Munster in to this. They were not there today Ronan O Gara was there with a team called Stade Rochelle. He has been doing well as a manager and will indeed be in demand

When a ref allows a free for all at the breakdown all day long the unfortunate consequence is the highly increased probability of a player being stretchered off.

Peypers a liability and its the players that pay the price

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,612 ✭✭✭✭martingriff

Well they did give them a 17 point headstart. As you said they beat them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 13,830 ✭✭✭✭Exclamation Marc

    Peyper is a shocking referee.

Not the sole reason Leinster lost (by a long shot) but he is sh!t poor and has been for many years (and many a team have suffered from his "refereeing").

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 23,697 ✭✭✭✭Akrasia

Peypar is a dangerous referee. Things escalate until players get badly hurt

Hopefully it dampens the notion that picking the Leinster team at international level is optimising our potential at international level. In particular today should be a wake up call on the ability of Ross Byrne at the very highest level.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,920 ✭✭✭lawrencesummers

I dont think peyper had anything to do with the result

He missed stuff at the breakdown all day on both sides.

But his constant ignoring of infringements increases the likelihood of injury.

Serious questions need to be asked about Ross Byrne. He’s like the invisible man instead of a leader at 10

Agree on Ross Byrne , but until other provences have better players to over take the Leinster players ,then this will be the team.Im so pissed off over this result and last weeks ( with team we picked) we bottled it an its ominous for Ireland . Btw I couldn't care less if its 15 munster who play for Ireland or 15 Ulster etc once we win.
