As embarrassing a performance as I can remember in a supposedly important title game.

Christ what an absolutely massive 'fück you' from the fans, with thousands leaving early after what was a brilliant season. It's like "we're there for the good days, but the second you let us down we're off".

The Jekyll and Hyde team in the EPL, have a massive say in both ends of the table. Inconsistent or what?

    What's Tyler on about.

Its been a one team league for ages

Arsenal's end of season form is terrible for a title chasing side. Only picked up 9 points from a possible 21.

    7 games. 2 wins, 3 draws and 2 losses.

And thats that, fair play to Arsenal a very good, young team who at least saved us from a city procession

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,452 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

It's turned into a city procession in the end.

And funny now looking back at the point when arsenal were 8pts clear and the media were asking was the league over!

Better the end of the league then most of the season and it was in the balance up to the game they played each other

That Everton result against Brighton is looking more and more suspect

If Arsenal fans know how to do one thing it's file out of the Emirates once the going gets tough.

In 09 when United beat them in the Champions League semi final, it was all miniature flags being waved at the start of the game by full time it was almost only United fans left in the ground.

The way they turned on Wenger wasn't good enough either.

Brighton looked incredibly comfortable, 8 minutes of stoppage time and barely an opportunity created by Arsenal.

De Zerbi running down the touch line as if he'd just won the title himself not once but twice was a little bit pathetic though.

Brighton are a good side but they're a serious bunch of sh1thouses.

Juggling Thursday night football next season might soften De Zerbi's cough a little, we'll wait and see.

Brighton want you to try and play football. Everton do the opposite. 5-1 was mental, but the loss was always possible.

Brighton are (and were last weekend too) piled under with injuries - bench today was mostly kids and an old man. Its more that Arsenal were really that bad.

Ya, pretty shocking. Came on here to see if it was mentioned.

11 points clear they were... i mean there's bottle jobs and then there's this. Wow

A come on Wenger got way longer than other managers get.

Outdoing Newcastle in 95/96 by an extra point. Pity Arteta didn't have a live on air meltdown though.

I'm not talking about how long the club kept him on, I'm referring to how the whole "Wenger Out" campaign that rumbled on for years was led by Arsenal fans.

give it a rest sky, the title is citys

I've seen endless online posts already from Arsenal fans saying they know how Liverpool feel.

Get Pep in a room on his own and ask him if this race has been the same in any way shape or form.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,920 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

Just to put City in perspective.

The only team to beat them in the league in the last 6 seasons won 26 or their first 27 games, after getting 97 points the previous season.

You can not err with oil fuelled Pep.

That is one way to look at it, but just one.

In reality, Manchester City had games in hand and, key to the entire season, they had not yet played Arsenal, and were on a winning streak of ten-in-a-row against the Gunners in the league before this season. What that actually meant was that the Arsenal lead was going to be decimated when those two games came around, and sure enough, that was an expected 6 point swing, as the winning run goes on to a dozen games.

Something that a lot of football fans don't seem to realise, is that 3 points picked up in August count exactly the same as 3 points picked up in May. Its only the final table that counts - that's the one that tells you how your season really went.

In the entire season there was one week, just one, where Arsenal (who were 100/1 before the season started) were actually favourites in the bookies. That by itself, means this was not a bottle job. The unfortunate thing for Arsenal is that this was their chance, and they haven't been able to get over the line.

Swing it whatever way you like. Fact is they've bottled it. Bottled 4th last year too. They're bottle jobs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,110 ✭✭✭jacool

Arsenal's place in the modern football hierarchy is best explained by them having to buy Manchester City cast offs.

If you consider last year's season a bottle job because they finished 5th, then how would you explain finishing 2nd this season? To a lot of people, finishing 3 places higher in the table would be seen as a clear and obvious improvement. 2022 69 points 2023 81 points minimum. That's a big swing.

Not having a good enough squad to get 90+ points is nothing to do with bottle. I find it odd that fans of other clubs are so happy to see City win their 5th league in 6 seasons. No shame I’m not being able to compete with them though. It’s been a great season. Top 4 was the target and that’s been safe for some time now. Looking forward to the summer and what they can do in the market now

I’m not an Arsenal fan but they have absolutely not bottled it, even finishing second is a really good season all things considered. This city team is just different level, minimum 90 points just to have a chance, probably 93/94 upwards to win it which is just a ridiculous level of consistency.

I had a good chuckle when (as any united fan would) Liverpool didn’t win it with 97 points? In all honesty though that’s just plain ridiculous, that was a brilliant Liverpool side and still couldn’t win it with 97 points, city have changed the game in a big way (although that should level off a bit when pep leaves).

it seems some weird ptsd coping method.

    everything is "bottle" "bottle" "bottle"

    Pretty funny tbh

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,920 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

    It's not a bottle job.

But the reason rivals don't mind seeing City win it is that when they win, it's the most meaningless win out of any rival title. It's not difficult to work out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 373 ✭✭tranquilo

Lol. Drawing at home to bottom placed Southampton. Losing a two goal lead not once but twice in a row. All this when going for the title. And then todays result on top of it.

Whatever makes ye feel better about yourselves I suppose. But in reality the above results absolutely have cost them dearly. So yes, technically they have bottled it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,452 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

Do you think they will finish 2nd or 1st next season?

I'm guessing they will be fighting for a top 4 spot, so this really was their big chance.

Will they ever have a league with such a poor Liverpool, Man Utd, Chelsea, Spurs in it again? I doubt it.

And their fans claimed they threw the cup and euro games to concentrate on the league.

    Face it, they blew it.

Arsenal are the only one of the "big sides" outside of City that didn't bottle the season.

Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs and to a lesser extent United bottled their seasons.

Arsenal fell apart late on but those above were broken from day 1.
