In the end Dianase was relegated so Cav finished 4th. Jay Vine lost over a minute but all the other GC contenders got the same time. Eddie finished 20th so was in the leading pack. He tweeted that he was held up at one crash and the team worked to get him back so presumably the 7km crash that had Roglic etc chasing back too

    Stage 6

One more stage potentially for the sprinters before the GC boys get to work on Friday and then the Puncheurs on Saturday.

Potentially three sprint days left after this one.

Mads Pederson doesn't have a stage win yet and Kaden Groves finally got one. Groves will go into this one full of confidence if it's a bunch sprint.

There's potential for a late break with a cat 3 with about 40km left and it's a little lumpy after that too.

A hard early climb could make it tough for the fast men. They won't like it at all if they have to go fast on the early cat 2 and then again on the late cat 3.

    I like Groves chances myself.

All the anglophone media absolving Cav of any blame for the crash? When his wheel slipped, he backed off, cut back inside to try and get back on the wheel as Dainese launched? I thought the relegation was a bit harsh, looked like a racing incident to me.

I'm watching the Prime documentary, and have to say he's not coming across that great (obviously could be the edit, and a bit of confirmation bias on my part). Last one I watched had a big bit on Seery, and on a day he was on the front for hours - Remco straight on the bus talking about himself rather than thanking the team.

Sounds like he suits Lefevre perfectly

I thought it was overly harsh on Dainese. He probably looked to his left, saw the very clear space as Cav had pulled left and then launched - just as Cav decided that being on his own out in the wind wasn't the smartest move and pulled back into Milan's slipstream just as Dainese moved . "Unfortunate racing incident" was probably the best verdict.

Cav getting a free pass from UK media?? Never! Yeah I don't see how you can relegate Dainese and not relegate Cav, he was all over the road before he was cut off.

And Remco is renowned as a dose, remember the disaster for Belgium at the home WC where he wouldn't work for WVA? Whinging at Strade Bianchi, the Vuelta when he winning and gets a puncture and complaining about all around him.

It is poetic that 2 days after he called Groves out for causing a crash, Remco brings a heap of riders down through his own fault, and Groves powers on to win.

I’m convinced Lefèvre is Remco’s da, they’re like two peas in a pod, both massive arseholes.

Good to see Andrea Vendrame starting today. I think he was the rider being stretchered onto an ambulance yesterday after the finish. He tweeted he hit the barrier and went down after Cav went into him but luckily no serious damage.

Just said on Eurosport Remco apologised to the two Trek riders this morning so not that much of an a-hole perhaps.

FFS Clarke & DeMarchi threw that away

Absolutely stupid to be playing around like that.

Even if you lost the 2 up you would be happier seeing your breakaway buddy win rather than getting caught.

I'm not sure the time gaps were completely accurate.

Milan has the singularly most ridiculous style of sprinting in the peloton.

They took a long look behind them inside the last Km.... looked like they had a big gap. Think they badly misjudged it.

You could equally argue that if your breakaway buddy started acting up, you'd rather anyone else won it than he.

    Stage 7

I was predicting this as a GC day but the weather is expected to have a wind in your face most of the day so a breakaway is highly likely to take the stage.

I don't think Point will be let go as he's too close on GC.

Ben Healy has to get in the break in this one, if he does he has a great chance. It needs to be a decent sized break. I'd say you need at least ten riders to make it happen.

The likes of Jungels, McNulty, Verona, Dombrowski and Kung are all likely to fancy their chances if they get in the break.

The GC battle is likely to happen very late. I'm thinking Jay Vine could surprise here.

The Bardiani lads need to do something today. They’ve been pretty anonymous this year, compared to normal.

So I’m predicting a break to take it with Roglic taking time on Remco.

Would love to see Pinot put in one last GC challenge.

could have got in to that break myself

    long day ahead

Maybe something might happen at the first mountain but that’s a very disappointing break for TV. No chance it’ll survive

Looks like a two break day for me. All the climbers weren’t going to risk an early break with what is to come.

All the action will be later & still think a break wins the day.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,518 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Ya it's ripe for a strong second break.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,289 ✭✭✭Macy0161

They are actually pals - iirc from the Cycling Podcast DeMarchi apologised to Clarke, and Clarke said something like "hate the game, not the player".

  • Registered Users Posts: 16,646 ✭✭✭✭dahat

So at what point do teams start riding today?

  • Registered Users Posts: 863 ✭✭✭jack01986

Will they stay away with over 10 mins? I'd think so.

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,319 ✭✭✭✭dastardly00

It's a slow day when the lads start talking about being sh*t on by birds overhead 🤣

Given that there are only three of them, and they are not climbing specialists, I think they'd need probably closer to 20 minutes.

There's near 45k of steady climbing, with the worst gradients at the end, after 160k ridden before it. I'd give the break a 10% chance of staying away
