In order to verify claims of anti-Americanism, what is Americanism? What American values are being infringed on at these universities?

He says he's going to fight racism at the same time as removing equality and diversity officers. How's that going to work?

He talks about what the college accreditation system is, how it works and then says that he'll use it. So nothing new. The only thing that might be interesting is 'entry and exit exams' to ensure standards.

The rest is just the usual rambling with buzz words and economic threats to people who don't fall in line. Its what his fans want to hear but there's very little substance to it.

To be fair, I can't think of any other US Presidents that have a) incited an insurrection at the US Capitol b) tried to coerce an election official into throwing out the results of a free and fair election c) suggested that people should ingest bleach to kill COVID d) used social media to bully both political allies and opponents e) been possibly the worst spreader of disinformation in the history of social media f) I could go on and on and on and on.

Reflecting on the above, plus all the other stuff that Trump has done that should disqualify him from running a library, never mind hold serious public office, I don't think it's that surprising that people hold him to a slightly different standard than other US presidents - but I don't think anyone here, right or left, would say that Bill Clinton should not be prosecuted for any crimes that he may have committed. Same as Trump should be prosecuted for any crimes that he's committed, and if he's acquitted then fair enough, that's the justice system doing its job. Right-wing people popping in here and bleating on about how unfairly Trump is being treated does amuse me, though.

This is a thread about trump, hence why I discussed him, if you want to start athread about those claims about Bill then go ahead. So, to paraphrase you, my question stands. So where are these court cases taken against clinton? I can only see one ex president in court for alleged rape

He didn't incite an insurrection. If he did he'd be in prison right now and god knows they have tried their damndest to put him there for it. Drinking bleach? again , totally false. The list of lies , hoaxes and misinformation peddled by the msn that rotted the brains of Democrats is certainly very long. But he point is , if they lie about one thing they will lie about everything else.

Take the bleach lie for example. Trump never told anybody to drink bleach but many are happy to go along with the lie that he did.

Trump spoke about the role he thought disinfectants could play in tackling an infection caused by the virus during a now infamous April 23 briefing. But he didn’t say people should drink bleach.

His comments came after William Bryan, the undersecretary for science and technology at the Department of Homeland Security, presented a study that found sun exposure and cleaning agents like bleach can kill the virus when it lingers on surfaces.

Trump remarked on the effectiveness of those methods and wondered if they could help address infections in the human body.

    Here are his full comments:

"A question that probably some of you are thinking of if you’re totally into that world, which I find to be very interesting. So, supposedly we hit the body with a tremendous, whether it’s ultraviolet or just very powerful light, and I think you said that hasn’t been checked, but you’re going to test it. And then I said supposing you brought the light inside the body, which you can do either through the skin or in some other way. (To Bryan) And I think you said you’re going to test that, too. Sounds interesting, right?"

    He continued.

"And then I see the disinfectant, where it knocks it out in one minute. And is there a way we can do something like that, by injection inside or almost a cleaning, because you see it gets in the lungs and it does a tremendous number on the lungs, so it’d be interesting to check that, so that you’re going to have to use medical doctors with, but it sounds interesting to me. So, we’ll see, but the whole concept of the light, the way it kills it in one minute. That’s pretty powerful."

Later, Trump clarified his comments after a reporter asked Bryan whether disinfectants could actually be injected into COVID-19 patients.

"It wouldn’t be through injections, almost a cleaning and sterilization of an area. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn’t work, but it certainly has a big effect if it’s on a stationary object."

Trump did not explicitly recommend ingesting a disinfectant like bleach. Nevertheless, his remarks led some companies and state agencies to issue warnings about ingesting disinfectants. The maker of Lysol said in a statement that "under no circumstance" should its products be used in the human body.

Esteemed journalist Matt Tabti made this video showing the amount of lies msnbc spent on one subject alone. The effort was to discredit Trump and ruin his reputation with misinformation.

The whole thing about it (because most people know he said disinfectant of which bleach is a type) was that it was unequivocal proof (as if more were needed) that trump is a very very stupid person who doesn't know much about anything. Plus it's funny watching his supporters tying themselves in knots trying to defend it because it is indefensible (even his own staff knew it), no matter what any other president or vice-president does that's stupid (spelling potatoe wrongly) that president told people to drink bleach and some of his supporters actually did that and died as a result.

"...that president told people to drink bleach".

Where did Trump recommend people to drink bleach?

To borrow a phrase, fake news.

Right, let's try to deal with this drivel point by point.

    1) He absolutely caused that insurrection with his lies and whipping up of his base voter. Most of that comes back to the "they'll only win if they cheat" lines that he was coming out with prior to the election. As you should surely be aware, words while in the office of POTUS matter. If you keep lying and lying and lying, as he's done since he launched his campaign in 2015, eventually enough people will start believing you for it to become a serious problem.

Since he lost the election, he's continued to lie and lie and lie about that, and now we're in a situation where a fair percentage of the US population believe strongly that he actually won the 2020 election and that democracy in the US isn't working. That's entirely on him and is incredibly damaging, and he hasn't provided even a shred of credible evidence to back up that claim. I'm sure that's probably the fault of the mainstream media and the Democrats in your own mind, but there we go.

    2) Again, words while in that office matter. I'll let the photo of his chief medical officer do the talking on that one, but just have a think about what the reaction would've been on the right if Barack Obama had stood up in that news conference and said the exact words that Trump said. I doubt if we'd be having this discussion now if he had.

I'll assume you agree with me on the election coercion situation, so I won't bother addressing that one. But you people defending Trump as a misunderstood victim of a witch hunt need to really have a think about what would've happened if a Democrat had behaved the way he's behaved since 2015. The fact that you seem to think that the entire thing is a conspiracy against Donald Trump is really staggering to me. Maybe he's just not as great as you people seem to think he is. Something worth pondering.

Clearly a good faith argument by Trump twisted and distorted by bad faith actors. Unless anybody can provide a "drink bleach" quote , this lie has been - debunked

He used irresponsible and reckless phrasing with regard to disinfectant and injecting it for covid treatment.

"And then I see the disinfectant, where it knocks it out in one minute. And is there a way we can do something like that, by injection inside or almost a cleaning, because you see it gets in the lungs and it does a tremendous number on the lungs, so it’d be interesting to check that, so that you’re going to have to use medical doctors with, but it sounds interesting to me."

Those are the kind of conversations you have behind closed doors not in a press conference.

It is possible this led to an increase in accidental poisonings:

The irony is that the people who accuse Donald Trump of lying have no problem outwardly lying about Trump themselves.

They are guilty of that which they accuse others.

He's talking about COVID-19 infection doing a tremendous number in the lungs - which it does - and not disinfectant.

Keep trying to twist his words to suit your agenda, though.

And I'm still waiting to see where Donald Trump "asked people to drink bleach".

Anyone willing to admit that this is a lie?

And no, you cannot then blame any poisonings on what Trump said because Trump didn't ask people to drink bleach.

The only people who claimed that were the media's deliberate misinterpretation and lies about what Trump said.

The media caused those poisonings, not Trump.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 962 ✭✭✭Burty330

Yup , its why every detail of Trumps existence no matter how innocuous is overblown by sheer neurotic paranoia. Covid caught the world off guard. The experts back then were telling people if they touched their eyes they would catch the disease.

Read his direct quotes and its clear he was trying do his best with the information that was given to by actual scientists.

Yeah implying you need to get the disinfectant into the lungs.

It was Trump who caused the poisonings to surge, he started the ball rolling.

He should never have said anything like that in a public press briefing without sanity checking it first.

I don't need to twist his words.

I didn't say he explicitly recommended people to drink bleach, but he used reckless and ambiguous language that was open to misinterpretation. Which is why such words should be chosen carefully.

His remarks led some companies and state agencies to issue warnings about ingesting disinfectants. The maker of Lysol said in a statement that "under no circumstance" should its products be used in the human body.

He convicts himself of what I have accused him of:

It was dangerous, reckless and irresponsible language.
