I managed to catch the finish of Der Klassiker. Brilliant finish to the game with Modeste's 95th minute equaliser. Loved Kahn's reaction as well.

Kahn's reaction made it all the better.

Soichiro Kozuki might be the best story in football at the minute. 12 months ago his contract expired at J2 side Kyoto Sanga where he was a reserve, rarely even making the bench. In February he moved to Germany and had a trial for Gladbach's reserves, but they didn't sign him. He decided to stay in Germany and signed for Düren in the Oberliga (5th tier) before being spotted by Schalke scouts. They signed him for the U23 team back in the summer and after 8 goals and 5 assists in 14 games in the 4th tier before the winter break he was promoted to the first team. He started and was impressive against Eintracht at the weekend and scored a lovely goal against Leipzig tonight.

    He's come from nowhere.

So, after a disasterous run of 3 draws and not terribly enthuastic performances, the Bayern players seem to have woken up with the 4-0 cup win against Mainz away.

The addition of Cancelao is a major bonus, he is only at the club 1 day and slotted in as if he was there for years. Watching sommer in goal though makes you realise how good Neuer was, even though he had a habit of being a little too adventurous . Whether Neuer ever comes back or comes back as good as before remains to be seen.

Anyhow, until yesterday the prospect of winning over 2 legs against PSG, even though they arent exactly flowing themselves, seemed shaky - but with the players having woken up and Cancelao in the middle of them I'd fancy Bayern to at least not make a holy show of themselves.

And with mbappe out injured from the 1st leg......

Looks like Nagelsmann will very soon be yesterday's man.

He didn't look a great fit there but it seems harsh to do it now. Looking forward to Tuchel and Guardiola locking horns again.

Won every game in Europe and they are only a point off the top in the league despite selling their best player last summer. Obviously if you sell a guy who averaged like 1.2 goals per game the last 3 seasons without replacing him things aren't going to be as easy.

Has to be more to it. I'm guessing he had a falling out with Brazzo or Kahn.

    It does seem harsh.

Got past PSG fairly comfortably, still one of the best teams in Europe, and will be very hard to beat in the CL.

I have watched them in the league a bit this season and they don't look as fluent as previous seasons, but as said, they lost their focal point of the team so could maybe be expected not to look as good up front.

I'm not so sure Tuchel will make them a better team.

It's sort of depressing, when we're at the point, that Bayern are hardly trying in the league. BVB get close, and Bayern don't even have to try to fend them off, they fall away regardless. If Bayern need an extra gear in the run in, they have it.

I don't think they really take it serious anymore tbh

I’m surprised Tuchel is taking the Bayern job.

Since been sacked by Chelsea it was reported he was learning Spanish and was looking at a job in La Liga.

    Can't believe it!

The German press reported Tuchel has been living in Bavaria for a few weeks/months(?) now and Bayern were afraid he would be made an offer by Juve or either of the Madrid clubs! Nagelsmann going on a skiing holiday just now didn't go down well either.

If this is what is seen as a crisis in Munich, they have great expectations. 1 point off the top of the Bundesliga, unbeaten in the Champions league and facing Freiburg in the quarter-finals of the Pokal!

Just as BVB get close, Bayern go up a gear. Predictable and boring, and was never really in doubt

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,070 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

Bayern still only 2pts clear of them.

    League ain't over yet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,956 ✭✭✭adaminho

If it was never in doubt why did Bayern sack their manager?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,785 ✭✭✭The Golden Miller

BVB just aren't good enough, a level below the top teams. Won't be able to win it.

Any time Bayern have struggled on the run in in recent seasons, manage to hammer BVB anyway when they up it

Cause they've been generally average, and even at that Dortmund always an arm length behind

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,070 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

Bayern just lost again, home in the cup quarter to Frieburg.

More or less full team on.

They have definitely dropped off in quality this season, at least in Germany.

Which is annoying, that it won't be taken advantage of in the league. Dortmund a few seasons back, were 11 points clear, with ten games to go, or something like that, and threw it away.

No matter how many mistakes Bayern make, no one seems to be strong enough to take advantage of it in the league

You a Bayern fan? I like them, but prefer Dortmund. Bayern robbed in Europe more times that I can count.

But I love the way, to win it, you have to go through them first, a real test. Like the Milan of old.

Bayern beating United in 2010 if one of my favorite memories. A Bayern team laughed at and dismissed by United fans, rolled into town and done them. That Olic goal will live long in the memory.

Second favorite game to Milan giving United the hiding of a lifetime in the San Siro in 07.

Bayern and Milan the stalwarts of European football imo, for decades always there or there abouts. Madrid can't say that, had two purple patches, that admittedly were fruitful, but weren't always there or there abouts

St.Pauli making a late run for promotion! 10 wins in a row and unbeaten in 12! Only 4 points off a playoff having beaten Heidenheim this evening and 6 behind HSV with the Derby in 2 weeks.

Dortmund are beyond words are this point. Stuttgart played more than half the game with 10 and they threw away 2 points.

Bayern lose 3-1 in Mainz. Dortmund with another chance today to go top if they can beat Eintracht later.

Bayern doing their best to hand the league to Dortmund.

Tuchel under serious pressure now, would love to see Dortmund hang on. By the way, anyone know how to get tickets for the Pokal final in Berlin if not a member of competing clubs?
