I kinda agree.. but it's good to get a confirmation that your data has been accepted.

    So... I'm on the fence.

Maybe a text box that confirms, then auto closes.

We do get a confirmation pop up that says thanks or something similar which closes itself after a few seconds. At least I do anyway!

Is the app out of action again?

I have issues loading google maps, getting an error instead.

Just want to do a quick poll.

    Do you (for fuel prices):

    1. Use PumpHunt solely

    2. Use both PumpHunt and Pumps.ie

    3. Use PumpHunt and something else (e.g. Waze)

If you use something else, can you let me know what functionality you get from the other app, that you don't get from PumpHunt (regarding fuel prices only).

    Thanks for any replies.

Pumphunt only for me, but honestly rarely use it for prices. I do though update it fairly often when I pass places

I tried using pumphunt a few times. It just doesn’t work the way it should. I can’t see how anyone would spend minutes on their phones (no iOS app) to update station prices as they pass them.

    Pumphunt....what a brilliant name....

The website provides identical functionality to an app. I didn't make an IOS app, as I don't have an iPhone to test with, it also costs hundreds to make (even a basic) app for IOS.

Regarding taking the time update prices, it's a community thing. You update prices for other people's benefit, and others do the same for you. It's not a requirement anyway, you don't *need* to update prices if you can't be bothered to.

I fear that somerone in the Dundrum area is posting incorrect fuel prices.

I live near Circle K beside The Goat in Goatstown. The prices this morninmg at 11am were 149.9 Diesel and 156.9 Petrol. This afternoon the prices are 148.9 and 156.9 respectively. However, when I opened Pumphunt to update the prices it showed 163.9 and 161.9 respectively. I do not believe that such a significant variance occured between my two observations.

I have noticed this frequently in recent weeks, where prices posted for Circle K Goatstown and Dundrum and also Certa Dundrum Town Centre are significantly different to prices I observe at those stations.

Thanks for reporting this. I've blocked that person from doing updates now. They managed to update about 8 stations with what looks like incorrect prices.

What about a feature like Waze has? You have to be at the station to update the price.

Ever think of outsourcing the creation of an iOS app? I’m on iPhone so I can’t use your app.

I have/had that ability to only update stations within a certain distance. But a lot of users didn't like it, saying that don't update the prices until they get home. So I had to end up, increasing the max distance limit to 250km.

Tbh, 99.9% of the updates are correct. So it's not a major issue as the moment, and I can block bad updaters permanently.

The biggest issue we have, is we don't have enough users to have daily updates for all stations.

Regarding the app issue. Firstly, all the (Android) app does is display the PumpHunt website. It has no additional functionality at all. The only reason I made one for android, is because it's free (and easy to code and test). iPhone apps cost about €200 to even put on the Apple Store, let alone the time to create one (in a programming language I don't know).

Browsing to the website on an iPhone should provide identical functions that an app would provide. You should be able to add the website to your home screen from the browser options.

Please let me know if you are having issues using the website from your iPhone and I'll look into it.

Any new upcoming fetures? I use it all the time and 2 things really annoy me:

    1. After updating the price the map doesn't re-centre automatically
    2. After updating the proce, the drawer for updating doesn't disappear

As a result of this you need 2 taps to get back to the map, centered on the full screen (which when driving is a pain in the hole (and illegal))

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,091 ✭✭✭mikeecho

Not illegal if the phone is in a mount.

It's only illegal to hold a phone, or send an sms.

Whatsapp and fb message, insta , snap etc are all legal.. as long as you're not holding or cradling the phone with your body.

    Mad isn't it .

    But thems the laws.

  • Registered Users Posts: 31 PumpHunt

Ok, I've updated PumpHunt now. So, if the map was centered on your current GPS location when you opened the station (by clicking on it's icon, or using one of the magnifying glass shortcut buttons), then after submitting the fuel price it will hide the station info and re-center the map to your current location.

You will need to close and re-open the app (or website) for this to work.

Let me know how it goes.

So it's alright to send a message on WhatsApp etc once you have the phone in a cradle? Presume this doesn't transfer to watching a video on your phone when you're driving?

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,460 ✭✭✭roosterman71

Savage. I'll check it out over the next few days and report back

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,154 ✭✭✭con747

I would imagine if it's in a cradle then your not holding it "due care and attention maybe?", and if you watch a video on your phone when driving enough said. Now, not sure how the law interprets it.

Done updates as I passed garages today and this change worked a treat. Great job

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,460 ✭✭✭roosterman71

Anyone experiencing updates around Dublin (M4/7/50, airport area) not behaving right. Last few times the updates are accepted but the pin colours don't change. Or they show grey on the map even after a recent update.

  • Registered Users Posts: 31 PumpHunt

Next time you update, and it doesn't work. Let me know the date, time and station name, and I'll check the logs for errors.

  • Registered Users Posts: 68,505 ✭✭✭✭L1011

I just updated or confirmed the three on the old airport / Swords road and the two in Santry, pins stayed grey after each

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,460 ✭✭✭roosterman71

Yesterday evening up and down to Dublin. Had a look there on the website (not via app) and they still grey. Look along Kill, Rathcoole up towards the airport and down the N4. You'll see ones updated yesterday and they still grey this morning.

  • Registered Users Posts: 31 PumpHunt

The pin colour is dependent on your search settings, on the station list page.

Also, only the first 10 in the list are coloured (green, orange, yellow, red) everything after that is grey.

    So check your search criteria.

Perhaps you have a large search radius, and other stations have better prices.

Can you send me a screenshot of your search settings/list, when near the area.

Might not be near the area again soon. I'll check the app settings later though and let ya know.

Feedback time again now! If you update a price then I'd suggest the colour should change and shouldn't match stations with out of date prices. Maybe grey isn't the best for updated stations outside of the top 10 and stations not updated for X time
