"No, I'm the true Loony! Me! Me! Me!"

"I'm way crazier than you! And I got elected to Congress!"

    "They'd never elect a crazy! That's why I couldn't secure a nomination!"

    etc...

Good run down of the various legal cases Trump has coming his way. The EJ Carroll rape & defamation trial is the next one up starting two weeks on Monday, that will be running simultaneously to the Dominion v Fox News case which starts the same week. Trump is using the Prince Andrew defence saying he never even met EJ Carroll despite there being photos of them together. The Stormy Daniels case isnt for mention again until early December with a January 2024 trial date expected. Before that he, Ivanka, Eric and Jnr are on trial on October 2nd in the New York Supreme Court for inflating his properties values to get bank loans and deflating them to get tax breaks. Letita James wants the Trump Org to repay $250m for running the scam and to also barr him and his children from operating a business in New York again.

Michael Cohen has a $20m civil suit against him but there are no date on that yet. Police officers at the Capitol have a civil case for Jan 6th, Trump lost round 1 to get the case dismissed and is currently appealing that, decision is due soon and its likely to go to trial. Then another case where its alleged he promoted a ponzi scheme on the Celebrity Apprentice, thats starting its trial in January 2024. Then an artist Eddy Grant is suing Trump for $300k copyright infringement for using his song without permission at campaign rallies.

Then he has got the three big ones which are just simmering away in the background. The Jan 6th insurrection and Mar a Lago cases are both being run by the same prosecutor who is schtum on whats going on. My guess is some day in June or July out of the blue Trump will be hit with a thunderbolt when they announce to charge him with federal level crimes. The Fulton County, Georgia case is even further along, a grand jury there have already voted for multiple charges against Trump so now it goes to an ordinary jury to ratify it. That case is no longer just about the perfect phone call seeking 11,000 votes, Trump (with Rudy) also had a plan to send a slate of fake electors to the Georgia legislature to try to overthrow the states election results so there is even more charges there.

During all of these legal cases Trump will be simultaneously trying to win the Republican party Presidential nomination. Iowa's primary is February 2024 and New Hampshire shortly after that. The great thing is he going to steam roll all candidates before him but at the same time he is likely to have federal charges hanging over him. 2024 is going to be about as much of Trump running for the White House as it is about him fighting to keep himself out of prison.

So, with a bit of luck they will get him on something! Hope its one of the meatier cases, the Stormy Daniels one is a bit hard to get interested in.

Loomer sounds like the kind of person Trump would really like, but at the same time she would do nothing for his ability to appeal to moderates. Not that Trump isn't doing a terrible job of that as it is.

    Reminded me of Father Ted

Wonder if he bought the statue of trump from CPAC for his collection.

Would never say that about Stormy. She'll give much more value in the witness box than Donald.

"The Fake New York Times" posted a story and wouldn't you know it a large number of lawmakers believe it and the waters are circling for embattled 15-votes-to-be Speaker, Kevin McCarthy

Probably a bit tacky for a collector of the finest nazi linen.

I follow a lot of foreign auctions and you would be surprised at just how popular Nazi items are in the US. It's not just militaria, but cutlery and porcelain and bronze busts of Hitler. The stuff really moves quite well. KKK robes and medals (they issued medals!) also seem to go down well in some of the auctions when they're in auctioneers that don't consider that a red line not to be crossed. Interestingly enough, they don't seem to be confined to the Southern states.

All that said, some of the biggest collectors of Nazi pieces are Jewish, but I wonder about the proportion of the buyers who are true fascists. I'd love to be in the room rather than online so I could see who is buying up the KKK lots.

Yeah a lot of memorabilia coming available due to items taken by allied troops coming available in the last few years as they pass away, and people like Panagopulos and others willing to auction them.

A friend in Scotland has the hitler youth knife his grandfather took off a guy he killed with a knife after his gun jammed.

He wouldn't think of selling it as his grandfather said it was something that always reminded him of how people could be twisted into believing others are the cause of all the problems and some people were just born c*nts and nothing is ever going to change that, and if left unchecked they eventually have to be dealt with.

A stirring speech from Jon Voight who believes Donald Trump will persevere through his current trials and "save this nation" in 2024.

"The Biden administration is a false security for our nation. It's a joke. It's a disgrace," Voight proclaimed.

"We must all vote in 2024 for the only president that can take this country and strip away the dirt, the grime, the lies, and make this country what it was meant to be — the greatest country," he added.

"An indictment. This cruel intention. This lie. We must not forget Clinton's true affair and that they never caused this cruelty on any other president before," the actor stressed.

"The 45th president of the United States shall save this nation from the barbaric left insanity, and we, the people, shall help — with our truths and prayers," he continued. "Let us all put faith back."

The fact is there's a lot of money involved with collecting WWII memorabilia and German material is no exception. It's so lucrative that there's a large underground market of fake goods that can catch the buyer unawares. Years ago, I dabbled in starting a collection, but got out fairly quickly because it was a minefield of chancers. Even if one could view them item up close, you were never quite sure if what you were buying was genuine or a knock off.

As for collecting Third Reich memorabilia, it's not just popular in the US. The market for it is worldwide, because there's quite a bit of money involved. Plus, those items are investments that rise in price, with the rarer items reaching quite a bit of money. A Knight's Cross will set you back around ten grand. More if it includes the original box and award citation. Of course the better the condition of the piece, the higher the price.

At one time there were several shops here in Dublin that sold historic memorabilia. One was called Yesteryear on Frederick Street. The chap in there was very knowledgeable about such stuff and taught me quite a bit about what I was about to get myself into. He was more about WWI stuff though. But of course, nearly everyone starts out looking for a WWII Iron Cross for obvious reasons. Sadly Yesteryear shut its doors quite a few years ago.

As for buyers being "fascists", I'm sure that there would be a number of them out there. But most people would just be collectors, because of basic fascination, whether that fascination is historical or money driven.

It's not so much that its uninteresting, it's more that its really not surprising. A sexist, misogynist, billionaire, paid a porn actress to sleep with him. Yeah, and?

I thought he paid her to go away afterwards and keep schtum... not quite as Charlie Sheen put it but almost:

"I dont pay them to come over. I pay them to leave afterwards."

I'm sorry, you quoted this section of his speech as, what, an example of how powerful it is?

    Without irony?

I...... this is a Snake-level post (who I am beginning to think is a joke poster - nobody could post that many self-burns in a row...)

But I.... does ANYONE, even his most loyal cult members think trump is the person to...

strip away the dirt, the grime, the lies, and make this country what it was meant to be — the greatest country,

Genuinely. TRUMP? DONALD TRUMP! If someone says "Yes" and actually deep down believes it, I will accept them at their word and not reply to their response. But... I... yeah

"Keep schtum"? It's not as if she would be shouting it from the rooftops, now is it?I wonder what was it that attracted her to him in the first place, if not the possibility os the taxi fare home?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,393 ✭✭✭✭odyssey06

She might shout it from the rooftops if a tabloid was offering her big bucks... which they would have done in 2015-16 and why Trump as part of his campaign needed hush money for her.

What was it attracted Marla Maples etc to Trump back in the day? The monied lifestyle is likely in the mix somewhere but thats not the same thing as what you are implying.

Some buyers are for museums and such from some articles l read before. Some people are really into military items, not just for historic reasons.

Yesteryear was a great place to visit and browse.

If Voight is talking about the war in Ukraine, he's talking not about ending the various controversial conflicts in which the USA had been unflinchingly involved for years and, in some cases, still is, but one war which is a clear cut case of an aggressor (Russia) invading a country which wants to become part of the civilised world (Ukraine) and, even more importantly from a cold geopolitical perspective, become a U.S./western ally. The U.S.A., if it wants to live up to its own view of itself as a beacon of liberty and freedom , should provide the necessary aid to Ukraine to achieve its own freedom from Russia, so long as Ukraine asks for it, and it would come at a small fraction of the U.S. defence budget and nary an American boot on the ground. Win-win, you would think. Of course, Trump being an ignorant, egotistical populist/contrarian and Jon Voight being a rather bitter old man can not or will not see any of this.

And, jaysus, anybody who wants to see a change from Biden could do a hell of a lot better than a bloated blowhard who is only 4 years Biden's junior. I know that both Democrats and even members of the Republican party hating Trump is taken as evidence that Trump is really rattling the old deep state cage. Have those same people ever stopped to consider that it's because Trump really is that much of an a$$hole?

I think being interested in militaria or having something because it was picked up at the time by a returning soldier as with @I.R.Y.E.D 's friend's grandfather is pretty normal. I can also understand people having an interest in politics or the home front from the time and collecting items from those aspects of the history, but there's definitely a number of good ol' fashioned neo-nazis hidden in the ranks and it's hard to tell what kind of proportion of collectors fit the bill. Having a house decked out in nazi finery and a garden filled with dictator statues seems like it might cross that line IMO. Collecting Nazi stuff is definitely more popular and commands higher prices than Allied stuff from the same period and the US market seems pretty large in particular.

I loved Yesteryear, the guy who ran it was called Cyril Wall. If he'd been paid for all the knowledge he passed on he wouldn't have needed to sell anything.

Interestingly most trump supporters believe that Ukraine are the ones who caused the current conflict with Russia and should just surrender.

Never sure if it is because Ukraine couldn't provide the quid pro quo and trump's stream of sh1te in relation to country and conflict , the religion of their president or that they are just so used to repeating everything they read from troll farms, or just the whole bingo card with some of them.

Well in the states you can still get a lot of their own material from the time as there was such a surplus and a lot of it was still being used in Korea. European armies such as the French also used the same equipment at the time.

The none military items, such as personal photographs etc I can understand from a historic point of view also for some collectors and museums, but get what you mean regarding the motivation for some collectors

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,702 ✭✭✭✭Tony EH

Most museums would have their own specialist buyers though. I'm talking purely about individual private collectors who'll buy for whatever reason. People will tend to pidgeonhole someone very quickly about Third Reich material though.

Yeah, Yesteryear was a little treasure trove of antiques. The owner was really nice as well. His old man was in the RAF, he told me. In Lancasters, IIRC.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,702 ✭✭✭✭Tony EH

Ah right. I'm I correct in recalling that his father was in the RAF? Or am I mixing up the old guy with someone else? It's been a number of years since I was in that shop...

...to say the very least. 😄

Can't remember myself, the place closed quite a few years ago although he still went to fairs and that. I don't think I was living in Ireland when he closed. At one point he had a board covered in old political campaign badges for the likes of Nixon and that. I wonder what people will make of some of the bizarre Trump stuff they sell at his events when they're 50+ years old.

Hardly worth running the election now after the startling news that some people in Florida like Trump.
