Renault Megan Tom Tom "No Maps Found" error

My daughter recently purchased a 2011 Renault Megane and the sat nav has the "No Maps Found" error. I took out the SD card and it can't be read on my computer which leads me to believe it corrupted. I went on to the Tom Tom website and purchased the correct Carimat single map but it won't download. When I contacted them, they want the serial number of the Sat Nav on the car - you can't get into this when the SD card is corrupted so no way of getting it? The screen won't work without SD card.

Can i just not format the original SD Card and download maps and put them into the car???

When i contacted Tom Tom I must say they were extremly unhelpful and told me to go back to Renault - Renault told me to go back to Tom Tom!!!!

Any chance you could pop out the Satnav like you can a stereo and get the serial number off the back?

Check here with the VIN number from the car, you can format the existing card and download new maps to it, I have it done on my current 2018 Megane and also before on 2010 Megane and 2011 Fluence:
