They reckon that with the contract length and the compo to Brighton it could be 60 million in total.

The Chelsea cycle of sacking managers will never end now. No manager gets time to sort things out or put their stamp on things.

They always seem to go in a cycle the last decade or so of appointing a defensive manager - load up on wing backs and defenders - win a trophy - complain about style of play - sack manager - appoint attacking manager - sack attacking manager for not winning with a squad full of defensive players - appoint defensive manager - load up on wing backs - etc

This was actually an opportunity to revert away from this. They'll fallen into type of sacking the manager instead.

I suppose that will be 60m spread over 20 years according to the accountants.

from BT Sport - Manchester United have lost every single away game they have played against the current top nine this season 25-6 on aggregate.

Liverpool and Man U have been desperate away from home.

Crazy day - head spinning. Anyone who backed Potter to be next must be gutted when Rodgers went first.

Thats insane, it seems that they gave him a 3 year extension in February !

£10m a year he was on, what in Gods name is going on at Chelsea, they are a laughing stock.

Its like something out of Dream Team.

Was flicking through 'next manager to' odds earlier on before I heard that and Potter was joint favourite for Leicester. The merry-go-round is so crazy that might have made sense even if he hadn't (yet) been fired at that point...

Potter was doing a brilliant Moyes at United impersonation.

He might be able to rehabilitate himself if he can get the Leicester job but doubt he'll get another job above that level.

Both he and Cucurella must regret leaving Brighton.

Will be icing on the cake if Tuchel wins the Champions League with Bayern Munich.

Potter got the best part of 50-60m for less than 6 months at Chelsea, I doubt he regrets that.

Ha ha I wonder if they can spread the payouts over 20 years.

Are we allowed to say Abramovichas a trigger finger...?

His lawyers would always dispute that!!!

    Potter sacked, that's fvckin hilarious.

.... Plus was it 20 million compensation to Brighton?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,873 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

Chelsea paid Brighton over €25m for Potter and his coaches this season, to add to their €611m on players.

How much are they going to pay paying off Potter now this season? They can't spread that out over a number of years. They could be under serious pressure to sell players to meet FFP requirements now, especially with no Champions League next season.

    Looking at some of their saleable options;

    • PEA is 34 and down to the last year of his contract. Might have to get paid off / leave on a free transfer
    • Lukaku will be 30 in the summer. had a poor, injury hit season. Won't have many suitors outside of Italian clubs, who generally don't pay big for unwanted players.
    • Ziyech might get around €15m
    • Pulisic heading into the last year of his contract
    • Hudson-Odoi heading into the last year of his contract (HG)
    • Mount heading into the last year of his contract (HG)
    • RLC heading into the last year of his contract (HG)
    • Gallager (HG)
    • Babayako heading into the last year of his contract
    • Koulibaly who is 32 and is in the same situation as Lukaku
    • Kepa / Mendy depending on who the new manager wants.

Aside of the HG players, there are not many options for big sales, and selling those carry their own risks then also.

I think had Moyes and West Ham not won today, there'd have been a hat trick of managerial casualties from this weekend.

    Jeysus Lukaku isn't 30 yet.

Is he the new Obafemi Martins.

Forest away at Leeds Tuesday night! Ridiculous if Frank is considered third favourite in the "sack race".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,873 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

He's played in 15 different seasons!

Statistically Chelsea is the club he has played his worst at, twice. 15 goals in all comps in a combined 3 seasons. He scored more in singular seasons at Anderlecht (2 times), WBA, Everton (4), Man Utd (2), Inter (2).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,155 ✭✭✭✭eh i dunno

He's only that price because he has to be a contender for the Leicester job

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,004 ✭✭✭AidoEirE

Cooper on thin ice as well i think.

Any sane manager wouldn't go near Chelsea at the moment. Not the ones mentioned anyway unless for a CV bump and a payout. Absolute circus show

Ya I'm bit surprised he not been bit closer to being linked to get P45

Didn't he sign a new contract midway through the season? Tbh Forest have done about as well as you'd expect for a newly promoted team who signed 5 million* new players. If I were them I'd be keeping him regardless of survival or not.

*May or may not be an exaggeration

You're probably right but with amount players he bought unless they stay up then think its been unsuccessful season

He maybe on thin ice, but he shouldn't be.

I thi k he's done excellently there, seems a good coach and really where should Forest be? They are bottom half, but a few teams between them and the relegation zone. Not far clear on points but still, I think he's done well.

2 questions - how many managers is that that started at or after the start of the season already gone?

Why do clubs offer multi year contracts when the life span of a manager is probably less than a year now?

We laughed a few years ago at Watford using that model, and they're all at it now!

I’m old enough to remember the chat about “these managers are failing because they have no qualifications”. Then UEFA insist all coaches have their coaching licenses. But coaches are being eaten through an unprecedented rate.

If life was fair, it should be Boehly that walks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,328 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Managers wouldn't take the job on shorter contracts is the reason. Not the really good ones anyway.

On your first question. Saw something morning that the Brighton boss appointed in September is now the 11th longest tenured amount current managers !

Ten Hag is already the 9th longest serving manager in the Premier league after starting in the summer
