Thanks all - Tyre pressures we already spot on at 42 psi. I can't get above 110 due to traffic where I live so i'm not sure, but the vibration might be road-specific rather than speed-specific.

Consumption is 188w/km over the 160km i've had it. But there's been a lot of , erm, acceleration demonstrations to willing passengers. By contrast my ID3 (with much less weight and power) would use well over 200w/km when driven similarly.

thanks for the tip on the charge port, i'll go check that out.

what you're saying makes sense, but I know i've never had to rebush my DS or GS which have huge wheel travel and very soft suspension to regularly exercise all that travel. Maybe that's down to suspension design though.

The craze for firm ride started in the late 90s with the BMW M-cars making it an aspirational thing for the common driver, like spoilers in the 80s and go faster stripes in the 70s. Greater weight and wider tyres meant lower profiles also, which removes a big part of the overall suspension of the car - the tyre sidewall.

I once took a friends new Opel Insignia on run flats for spin and it was so uncompliant I got out halfway round the block to check if it was broken or had 2 punctures or something. It was working as designed, but in my opinion was designed very badly for a cooking diesel Insignia. "I love the sporty feel of it!" she explained.

I'm sure I'll get used to the Y's firmness but wish Tesla had brought some of their cleverness to bear on this problem. e.g https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3KPYIaks1UY

MYLR motorway journey today limerick to portlaoise 120km. Weather blustery, wet , 8 deg C, into headwind on way home.

consumption on way up 210wh/km (120kph) used 33% battery

consumption on way home 225wh/km (125kph) used 36% battery.

my Audi Q4 would have been at least 270wh/km in this type of weather and that speed.

I have got into the habit of opening the back door (With phone in pocket) and then pressing charging door. Stays open then for as long as needed.

Model Y added to the fleet today , same issue with a wheel vibration, I’m not 100 % sure it’s a wheel balance issue unfortunately, more like a hub or tyre issue. If it was fwd I’d say is was out of balance half shaft.

This Model Y Definitely Not as good on a smooth road on Hankooks as model 3 on Michelins. Very slight ,but annoying issue that’s going to be hard if not impossible to rectify.

I tried the contactuk@tesla.com email address for a refund "We have reviewed the information provided and feel that your query will be better managed by your Tesla Support team."

Has anyone been able to get a refund using that email address?

    Last year yes.

It might be worth a call to Tesla Sandyford.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 41,400 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

That would indicate a range of about 273km at that speed (210wh/km) or 255km (225wh/km).

LR 75Kwh battery so 360km, but figures still holds for RWD.

interestingly the GOM still shows 500km at 100% , which is why i have it set for % .

also had my first phantom braking while on ACC . Sun was low , road was wet and just going into an uphill stretch on the M7. It was like the car got a fright and braked suddenly. Dropped below 100kph instantly but had foot near pedal and off she went again.

From reading previous reports, the car sees the sudden glare on the road as an obstacle and brakes suddenly.

GOM gives you EPA rated range, not your own typical range

Apologies I done the numbers in the RWD. Completely forgot you got the LR. It explains the higher than usual wh/km alright.

But ignore the GOM. That’s gives you the EPA calculated wh/km x what the bmw thinks is in the battery = unachievable in reality every day driving.

What's the headroom like in the back? Doesn't look the most comfortable for tall people

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 1,737 ✭✭✭rx8

There's loads of room in the back. I mean it's enormous.

Great. My son is 6'3" and has lots of leg, head and shoulder room sitting behind me (6') with two other lads slightly smaller to his left. It's a very roomy car.

I like your car choices! I just love the DS, expecially 1967->. One can always dream.

The suspension on old Citroens was specifically designed to allow for long travel and don't have any flexible bushings that need to twist. The elastic stuff only started to happen anyway with likes of Golf in 70's.

I agree with you that the modern cars tend to be too "sporty" even when they don't need to be like the non-P Model 3/Y. Would be cool to try one of the hydraulic cushions Citroens of the current day to see if they are any good for comfort compared to hydropneumatic ones.

I've just emailed a cancellation request to sales_dublin@tesla.com. I'll let you know if i receive a reply.

I just retested mine and there's no vibration. Either i've shaken off a bad balancing weight or the problem was the road from Baldonnell to the Green Isle hotel.

Some very dodgy roads around there. So how is the "comfort" suspension doing now?

No change there - it's too firm, but a hoot when flaking along twisties in the mountains so I can see the point. Like meself, it's a lot of weight to control

@ds20prefecture , I saw your comments from pick up about " comfort suspension". I had taken the uk-reg performance for a test drive in January and it was stomach-wobbling. Really got me worried about my order. Then you commented...

I took a new RWD out for a test drive yesterday on exactly the same route of mixed motorway, n-road, speed bumps and one downhill road with off-camber and very poor surface. Tbh there was a noticeable improvement compared with the "old" MYP. It's still firm, but it's quite tolerable.

I think you could book a service enquiry for a wheel balance. I'm not sure your car is right.

FYI I drive for work, a variety of small and large cars and vans. So Ive experienced all the different suspension "styles".

But I will say that Tesla have made a silly decision to make MY suspension so firm for a mass-produced family car. Really not market-appropriate.

€ 89,02 53%OFF | 4PCS Hub Cap Car Replacement Wheel Cap 19 Inch Performance Automobile Hubcap Full Cover Accessories for Tesla Model Y 2021 2022

Ordered February 15th, so just over 5 weeks to arrive. They go from China to Belgium I think, could be Holland, and then posted to Ireland from there, so no extra duty.

Only one negative is that they are not symmetrical, but I think some suppliers do have them. While ordering, you leave a comment to include logo's aswell and they send the Tesla T with them.

Overall very pleased with how they turned out.
