Conte wins titles with clubs that always win titles. Look at his record in the CL knockout stages. Routinely fails to get his teams out of the group stages and then when they do they almost always get knocked out in the last 16. Only once has he made the QFs. He’s a serial winner when he has the biggest and richest team in the league. When he doesn’t, he’s not a winner. Could he do what Klopp did? No, I don’t think so.

Arsenal had a bit of a cull recently. They have the 2nd youngest team in the league at the moment, I think it was the youngest before January

I would absolutely agree with everything you’ve just said there, if it weren’t for the fact that if Conte hadn’t already lost the dressing room, I can’t see how he’d still have it now. Which is probably bigger than tactical stuff for the most part.

Does that include the money City players get in brown envelopes.

Conte isn't wrong in much of what he said, but in truth he himself is part of the problem. He's a coach with serious limitations, has won league Titles with Juve and Chelsea alright, but they both had big finances behind him, and his record in Europe is truly shocking.

He's looking for a payoff it does seem, if he had any integrity he'd resign and tell Levy to stick it, but he's being pretty classless hanging about for the payoff. It's not like he's short of a Bob or two, and he's been 'on the sick' recently too. He's not coming out of this looking well if you ask me.

Tis no wonder that Toney is allegedly reduced to betting on himself with that miniscule wage bill

Arsenal with 2 lovely goals now, such a comfortable game for them.

    Palace are a wreck

Yeah I probably should've clarified it was the 2nd and 3rd goals were lovely.

Palace in real trouble and need to get the manager appointment right. They could find themselves in the bottom 3 in a couple of weeks very easily given they’ve a game extra played vs a lot of teams of teams below them

Agreed - this doesn't look good for them, although the opposition has been all top 8 bar Villa.

    Palace were absolutely atrocious!

There are no figures associated with City that I trust. And I’d say UEFA and the PL would take the same view.

If it's from the Sun I'd have doubts about the accuracy of it.

I thought Liverpool's recent financial figures showed wages well about the figures quoted here.

Just saw the conte rant, mate your the manager its up to you to change the mentality through winning games. Liverpool hadn't won the league is 30 years, an absolutely huge burden on any previous Liverpool manager and Klopp managed it. Conte just comes across to me entitled and not in the sore loser type. His language was he was more worried about his own reputation.

possibly just the wages of the players, rather than all staff. The united wages are also way above that 200m figure - so I am guessing it is players only, or just completely wrong.

Sounds like Conte will get his wish and will get a pay off by means of sacking.

He clearly is affected by the passing of a few of his friends in the last year or so. He needs to take a break from football really.

His repeated cycles might need to be reassessed too possibly. It's not a coincidence anymore.

Klopp was allowed to sign the most expensive goalkeeper and defender in world football, a Ligue 1-winning midfielder that had reached the last 4 of the Champions League, and a wide attacker with nearly 30 goals in Serie A over two seasons among others. Has Conte been allowed anything close to that? I suspect if Klopp was told to win a league with the likes of Enrique, Allen, Benteke etc. he wouldn't have managed it.

Conte finished in the top 4 last season which was a big achievement with that squad and yet it doesn't seem like they backed him sufficiently following that. He can't improve the side if he has to work with the same old dross.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,310 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Well he was stupid to think they were ever going to back him any more than they did Jose.

If he thinks Spurs were gonna build him a league winning side he wasn't doing his due diligence.

The good players he has have gotten worse under him too.

Spurs spent over 100 million between securing Romeros permanent transfer, signing Richarlison, Bissouma and Spence in the summer and Danjuma and Porro in the January window. They have backed Conte. Maybe not to the gazillions that Juve, Chelsea and Inter spent for him before (leaving Inter in quite the financial pickle too after he walked) but they've not exactly been money shy either.

That's not to mention last seasons signings of Bentacur and Kuluveski who need to be made permanent at the end of this season too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,643 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

    Romero - £42.5m

    Richarlison - £60m

    Bissouma - £25m

    Spence - £12.5m

    Danjuma - loan

    Porro - loan

Can add to that Perisic on a free and Udogie for £15m. Romero was a Nuno legacy signing, and Conte said he didn't want Spence or Udogie. He seemingly didn't want Danjuma either. How many of the others did he ask for?

He has them 4th with a bunch of players he wasn't keen on. Not sure what more people want. I'd blame Levy and his reps rather than Conte if they haven't kicked on.

Ultimately though, with the squad of players he has, he's underachieving.

Yeah, Spurs could always do more in the market, but the bottom line for a manager in any job is to get the most out of the squad they have. He did that last season, he hasn't done it this season.

Why would Pochetino go back to spurs. Didn’t they sack him and I recall Spurs fans on here saying it was the right call. He got them to a Champions League final and they didn’t give him more resources to build on that and then sacked him when they inevitably stagnated again.

Not a fan of any EPL club but when that Super League idea was first floated, the one with no relegation out of it or promotion into it, I thought it was particularly galling that Spurs were ensconced in it. A club that haven’t won anything in ages and yet there they were going to be sitting at the top table with the drawbridge pulled up. Conte was right about what he said about them as a football club. A beneficiary of where they happen to be located living off the fat of the EPL.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,310 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Anyone who thinks Spurs are going to give the manager more resources than they are already putting in just should not take the job.

If Spurs try to tell a manager any different he is an idiot to believe them.

    Hodgson back at the Palace.

After what happened him last season, he's brave.
