Register the 6kW as a 5kW 🤔. I'd gladly take the extra generation over the extra FIT

You could and hope the SEAI don't inspect it, but if they do where are you with the grant.

ESBN & SEAI have absolutely nothing to do with each other. Plenty of people will have grants signed off, without an NC6 filed.

Not trying to argue the point but this is from the SEAI grant guide. "Applicants are required to submit an ESB Networks NC6 form for the application for a connection to the electricity distribution system for a micro-generator. Please contact ESB Networks for guidance. "

usual preamble\moan about boards useless search facility... (boards dev!?)

aanyhow, I need to boost the wi-fi signal at the inverter data logger in the attic so thinking of a wifi repeater.. any cheap and cheerful repeaters that retain the SSID so I don't have to reconfigure the Solis monitoring setup 🤣... mesh is overkill for my needs and can't really relocate the router without risking SWMBO grief

Yes, but there is no checking done to see if there is an NC6 before paying over the grant.

So I believe that's just a statement to tell people what is required, and that the NC6 has nothing to do with them, and to contact ESBN

  • Moderators, Home & Garden Moderators Posts: 7,015 Mod ✭✭✭✭graememk

A copy of the NC6 that is sent to ESBN is part of the required documents for the SEAI grant. (that its actually received by ESBN is another matter,,, It might of been sent but theres more than 1 that went missing.

Solis have updated my firmware again. Now on 440043. This is related to a longstanding issue. It was mostly resolved at the last upgrade but I did let them know not 100%.

Apologies if this has been asked before but I couldn't find a definitive answer - I'm looking to monitor via wifi the output of my solar panels, and house general usage, with a data export capability also. I have no hot water tank (gas combi), battery or electric vehicle at the moment, but potentially electric vehicle in future.

The OWL intuition PV appears to fit the bill but it is out of the stock for the forseeable future at MyEcoHub.

Is there any other recommended one - Harvi by MyEnergi for eg? Would that do what I need?

    Many thanks

I also found a way to fix all my Solis problems, rip it out and replace with a Sunsynk 🤣

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,104 ✭✭✭silver_sky

Not sure I'll go to that level but if/when it needs replacing I'll definitely be looking at other manufacturers. Key one is support though. How are sunsynk on that?

I'm dealing with a guy in China now from solis and he's been pretty good. I think the EU team just don't have enough staff and time for investigation.

Was there much wiring change involved in that or is it pretty plug and play?

I'd love an inverter that actually does 100A consistent!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,601 ✭✭✭SD_DRACULA

The inverter itself was plug and play and you can also remove the meter that the Solis was using since it's not needed/compatible anyway.

I did double up on my battery cables to 70mm2 to keep things cool at 200a plus adding 250a fuses for the disconnect switch.

The main thing is you need to replace the CT clamp, I left the Solis one in there hoping for the best but the readings are off and it pulls a constant 100-150w from grid with the old CT. If your CT run is more than 20m it is advised to use an Eastron SDM230 meter instead of the CT.

Didn't have to talk to their support team yet but I did call them in the past and they were helpful.

It is nice to see the full 8kwp and 200a of the batteries being used now, not to mention every 2 second updates for the values (not with the Sunsynk app though) 🤤

So I'm presume that you do not have any MyEnergi devices in your solar setup (Hub, Harvi, Eddi, Zappi) so I guess you could get a Hub and a couple of Harvi+\CTs that would allow you to monitor the solar and grid and monitor the flows in the app and web account (where you can export data afaik). Their tech support staff have a good reputation.

Many thanks for that - having a read, would a hub + 2 CTS work for me (one on solar, one on input)? My understanding is that you need a harvi if you have an eddi or a zappi but I have neither, and so would the hub only work?

    Thanks again

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,048 ✭✭✭jkforde

on second thought, I forgot that you do need at least one ME device - Eddi or Zappi - to act as the Master device as it relays the data from the CTs (wired or wirelessly via Harvi) to the Hub which in turn sends it to the ME servers. so ME system not a solution for your pure solar it seems.

A Harvi is only for wirelessly sending data from a CT clamp to an Eddi or Zappi, when an installer cannot run a physical cable.

The Hub only sends the data to the cloud.

So you need an Eddi or a Zappi to get anything.

    Look at the Shelly EM

The Shelly EM looks like it fits the bill perfectly, thanks very much!

folks, have noticed that the Solis is randomly and for short periods (few mins) pulling energy from my battery and sending it to the grid.. today it was pulling nearly 1kwh which caught my attention! I haven't made (afaik!) any remote control changes other than the night charge times in self-use mode.

any ideas why the inverter is doing this? not a serious issue considering the small amount of power and timescale involved but still curious why it's doing it.

Discharge times should be set to 00:00-00:00 as discharge is force discharge no matter what.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,444 ✭✭✭championc

If you are reading the app, you need to remember that that is only a snapshot in time every 5 minutes. For live data, you are better looking at the inverters screen or MyEnergi app (if you have an Eddi or Zappi)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,048 ✭✭✭jkforde

doh, I didn't mean to say that I'm changing the discharge times, I'm leaving them at 00.00 (edited my post above).

👍 am acutely aware of the 5min refresh rate 😆 but for example, at 19.25 last evening it was drawing 1.584 from the battery and sending it to the grid. can't think of any logic to it.

Had you put any heavy loads on at that time? The inverter will show all sorts of anomalies when a high load gets put on until it figures out where the power is coming from or going to. If I turn my shower on the inverter shows sending to grid then pulling from battery and visa versa for about 10-15 seconds and then settles down correctly.

If you can see the inverter screen handy you can check to be sure when a heavy load goes on. Luckily my inverter is in a spot on ground level beside my meter so I can see in real time were power is coming and going when loads are on.

This firmware is well and truly fucked. It's force discharging at 32A DC when the battery hits 100%. Doing this to bring it down to below 95% where it then charges back up again if there's generation. What a mess.
